How often does a pilot make a mistake when managing your flight route, or have their flying decisions dependent on what your individual body does physiologically? Flying a plane is relatively standardized in terms of procedures and protocols. Medicine is constantly evolving, as are medical recommendations.

@@SamianHQuazi That's pretty easy for the pilots to do, considering the difference in complexity between planes and the human body is akin to the difference between a brick and quantum mechanics. While planes are of course much more complex than bricks, QM is so enormously simpler than biology that we've solved the core of the former at virtually all human-relevant scales, while the latter is likely to take many more decades to nail down to nearly the same degree.
But you know who definitely doesn't understand biology or medicine even a teeny, tiny bit? 99.9999% of the conspiracy theory dumbasses on Facebook and various other internet comment sections, and almost certainly you too.

Imagine if Pilots were treated like Doctors.
    - If the airline loses your bag or flight is delayed, any random passenger can demand to speak to the pilot personally.
    - Passengers could leave Yelp reviews about the pilot personally using their name.
    - If a passenger bumps their head during turbulence, the Pilot could be personally sued as the airline steps aside. Also the airline requires the pilot to buy their own personal liability insurance, lest a passenger say they were late for an important meeting and wants to raid the pilot's kid's college fund as part of compensation
    - Pilots would regularly have to fly on little to no sleep, put in positions by the airlines to take on more flights than they safely should, implying they don't care about their passengers if they don't stay up an entire 24 hours
    - If the control tower didn't want to do its complete job, so they consult the pilot on the phone to do it for them, doesn't matter how busy they are
    - Pilot should come to the back of the plane regularly to help put heavy bags up, and if they are in the middle of something else, and they don't come back in time, they are primadonnas
    - Pilots should always abide by "see something/say something" without exception or delay. If concentrating an a difficult landing, a flight attendant should be able to barge into cockpit shouting they don't feel "comfortable" with how the pilot is approaching the runway. Extra points for being extra distracting.
    - There should be a time out before each flight, should include 100% of the pilot participation. If the Pilot cannot personally confirm the lavatories are stocked with toilet paper, the timeout is incomplete and flight delayed.
    - The airline that hires the Pilot, even after the vetting process, is complete, job has been accepted, and the licenses are all current, the pilot should have to apply for "privileges" to fly on the airplane s/he was hired to fly in the first place. The process should take months.
    - Pilots should get paid more if they take a more complex route. Conversely, safe/efficient routes should result in reduction of salary.
    - There should be a "shortcut" to being a pilot that involves a basic degree plus online training. Pilot is insulting to those taking that route, we are "flight providers." And there is NO difference. My cousin told me its actually harder to get into flight provider school.
I could go on and on and on.... I for one think the Medical industry should be more like the Airline industry, but instead, Medicine has literally taken only the bad stuff out (horrible service, staffing cuts on the front end, pay cuts), and left out all the good.

I mean. As much as a trust doctors. (and I get the joke!!) As a POC I'm regularly dismissed until it's an emergency. So I have to do a lot more research going into the doctors appointment, and understand what my options are. And sometimes I have to demand treatment for something I need but they think I don't. Ex. I had to demand a scan for my knee when they didn't believe I've been in pain for at least a year. Turns out I have no cartilage and a torn minuscis (idk how you spell that but you get it). So I think it's important to understand sometimes the patient does know their body better than a doctor would.

Same here, but neurodivergent, unfortunately without self advocacy we just end up getting dismissed constantly. I know he's talking about anti vaccers and they suck so this is funny but it is kinda hurtful to hear lots of comments saying we shouldn't pretend to know more than a doctor, when in lots of cases, people do. Doctors are not experts in every medical condition, they are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. So it's a partnership between patient and doctor to get the best result and both sides need to understand that.

    - "Hm, maybe we should fly around that ominous thundercloud. ... Naw, going around would cost more money and the airline would get mad at us. Buckle up everyone and hope we make it to our destination in one piece!"
    - "What do you mean you don't have time to give 180 passengers drinks in only 5 minutes? Do better, flight attendants!"
    - "Sure, I ordered so much fuel that we are sure to crash the moment we try to takeoff, killing everyone aboard, but someone else will probably catch and correct that before giving us the fuel... right?"
    - "I'm off for the day. Yeah, I realize the passengers have been sitting on the tarmac waiting for 10 hours, but if I wait any longer, I'll be late going home and they don't pay overtime!"
Actually, I'm glad pilots do not act like doctors... or travel by airplanes might have gone the way of the Hindenburg.

Lol I thought this was gonna be like, from a management pov. Like 'So You've never flown that route before, or that plane before, and you're gonna be the only pilot despite the fact you're meant to be on supervision for the next 100 flight hours, but could you take that route tonight, and also tomorrow night? If you say no, passenger may die. Cheers, thanks you're a star. oh also, one of the engines is making a weird noise, but the engineer should have it fixed by the time you're flying over the atlantic!'
Lol, maybe that's just nursing, but i doubt it!

Ok this is funny but the in flight magazine thing has a point😂 I'd rather they used the magazine money to subsidize wifi lmao

    • @kaboomsihal1164
      @kaboomsihal1164 2 года назад +3

Why would they do that? If they decided the money they spend on that magazine isn't worth it they sure as hell wouldn't use it to make you pay less. It's not like wifi costs money because they can't afford to make it free.

    • @katharina7502

My running theory for why this happens to other professions is because they don’t have to interact with customers the same way. The pilots don’t really have conversations with the patrons. I think separation is a little bit of a perhaps unintentional respect barrier. Also there’s no web md for flying so no one is pulling out their phones to say “no the plane actually has cancer, you idiot!!”

The hypothetical straw man has a point about the in flight movie though.
And pilots do actually have to hear the last one all the time. (Yes even when the plane is in Canada or some other English speaking country.)

Pilots can become experts in a specific plane and the cool thing about planes is they are all built off of schematics that you can look up, and I've never had a pilot say to me "You're too young to fly in a 747." or "This plane is all in your head, you aren't really flying." whereas doctors....
