  • This is a travel guide from Indianapolis, Indiana. We explore around downtown Indianapolis along the waterfront and around the capitol and war memorial. Indianapolis is known for the Indy 500 and its food scene. I would consider Indianapolis to be an up and coming city that is relatively safe city located in the Midwest of the United States.

    As a lifelong Hoosier, born and raised in the Circle City, I wanted to personally thank you for highlighting the city I love. Your video truly did my city proud. If you want the shrimp cocktail, Harry and Izzy's is a "sister" of St. Elmo's and has their signature shrimp cocktail on the menu. One tiny critique, though. I guess it's just a Hoosier thing. The Muesum of Native American Art spelled Eiteljorg, is actually pronounced like "Idol jorg". Named for Harrison Eiteljorg, a philanthropist who donated several of the artifacts on display there.

    In the mid-90s I worked at one of the state office buildings that sat right on the canal. Indy was just beginning its renaissance, thus I was able to experience the old and the new. The two or so years I lived there was the perfect time. Beautiful young girlfriend, season tickets to the Lyric Theater on the Circle, dear friends nearby from before my Indy sojourn, and my career advanced greatly. Thank you Indy - you were the best!

I run into people I know or know people I know all the time in places I wouldn't think of that makes sense. We've been developing some real culture. Indiana is a testing ground for fast food/chain restaurants due to it being historically bland ass middle America representation. It's been amazing watching that change over the years.

Stayed at Marriott Downtown which was under renovation then but it was a great hotel. Right across from the convention center which had all kinds of neat stuff inside for the Big 10 Championship game. Then Lucas Oil Stadium was right down the street. My husband went last year as well for GenCon and he loved Indy too! We are talking about moving there, hopefully sometime in the next year. Pros and cons of hotels vs Airbnb. You’re right it is lacking in the rewards program, but the advantages I’ve had using them over hotels are: more space, more privacy/quiet, in better locations overall, less sterile/more unique...all the hotels tend to blend into each other and tend to be in the downtown/business districts which usually kind of stink especially post Covid.

    • @JeffSchwenke
      @JeffSchwenke 2 года назад +1

      Also, airbnb type places you might be more likely to find a place with your own balcony, patio or deck to hang out at and enjoy a fresh breeze and your morning coffee or a beer in the evening. Most hotels unless they're a beachfront resort you have to use whatever outdoor communal space they might have, which if they even have it might just be a small pool area.

    • @huxleyginsberg13
      @huxleyginsberg13 2 года назад

      @@JeffSchwenke agreed on everything you pointed out! The privacy and space are usually the best features from Airbnb though of course depends what type of place you book. Make sure you stay within a mile or so of the circle and it's not bad, outside of that and all bets are off. Most places that are outside of 465 are fine and like most big city's the farther you go the better it gets. Indy's near East, Northeast and North sides are by far the worst so if you're from out of town try to stay within the downtown area.

    I moved to Indiana from California , I think if you would have went inside some of those places you would have realized how not cool it is. The art museums are a joke . Or maybe you were trying to make the city look better than it really is. The circle center mall has nothing on the malls in California. The museums are not great, the zoo is not great the children's museum is nice but packed always cause its one of the few things for kids so its unenjoyable due to that and parking is horrible, they have no aquarium , no natural history or science museum The city in general looks run down , like really run down and almost industrial but not in a fun way in a really depressing way. Also you didn't address that Indiana does not know at all how to do public parking , and the freeway system is not well thought out at all . They have very little cultural restaurants and shops so its just bland Midwest stuff There is very little for kids to do , the few things they have are packed because there is so little to do . Honestly would not recommend anyone wasting time here if they have a choice. Go to Cincinnati or Chicago , or LA real cities that actual have real city stuff. Indianapolis is truly as sad place to actually vacation to.
