The canal downtown Indianapolis was originally supposed to be part of the Erie Canal. It actually stretches for about 8 miles, and actually crosses a creek via an acqueduct. In the downtown part, you can rent paddle boats.

It is an underrated city. I stopped once travelling down from Chicago to Nashville in 2016 as nothing more than a lunch stop and I was pleasantly surprised. The downtown area is as nice as any outside the major ones on the coasts. Everything is in such close proximity like the Stadiums, Convention Center, Hospitals, University, State Capitol so theres a decent vibrancy which I have found lacking in a lot of other Midwestern and Southern Cities which have really felt the effects of white flight and deindustrialization. Its quite livable as well, lacks the congestion and living costs of the mega cities like Chicago, Atlanta etc never mind NYC and LA.
Actually its not too bad, this was shot 5 days ago. It is pretty well cleaned up. There are some businesses in downtown still boarded up, but there was still plenty to film. The Gov did good by sending in the National Guard very quick and put a stop to the rioting. Minneapolis could take a lesson from Indy in that regard.

For those that don't like/care to fly or drive, taking Amtrak to Indianapolis is an option. The Cardinal (New York to Chicago via Indianapolis) comes through three times a week. Indianapolis Union Station (the world's first Union Station opened here in 1853) is right downtown. Within walking distance is Lucas Oil Stadium (diagonally across the street from Union Station), Gainbridge Fieldhouse, hotels, nightclubs, restaurants, etc.

It resembles the industrial part of Hamburg, Germany regarding the way the canals and parks are being laid out and planned, I am surprised though, I hopefully one day can visit Indianapolis and yes, beautiful downtown, quiet and rather green..
Alexander Ralston laid out Indianapolis based on Pierre l'Enfant's design of Washington, DC (Ralston was l'Enfant's assistant). It was originally planned to be one square mile only, but quickly grew after that, especially after the railroads came to town. In 1970, it was decided to merge the city and county governments to avoid redundancy. The result was called Unigov. Four municipalities declined to join and retain almost fully autonomous: Lawrence, Southport, Beech Grove, Speedway (the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is technically in the town of Speedway).
@@stereoplayers oh how interesting… so when l’Enfant reintegrated and recreated Paris’s boulevards and squares in Washington DC’s design and planning, Ralston had himself inspired by Hamburg and Gdansk (Danzig)
I live 10 minutes from downtown indy. Yes the crime is terrible and yes theres a lot of potholes. With any big city there will be crime. We live in the midwest so yes there will be potholes. All the positives about our city though outweighs the negative. I've lived here my entire life and I wouldn't trade it for the world! Even though indy is a big city it still feels so homely because everyone knows everyone.
Indy’s suburban sprawl and giant city limits make potholes worse. The low density development doesn’t yield enough tax revenue to pay for the enormous amount of road maintenance. Combine that with a lot of freeze-thaw cycles and state representatives pillaging our funds for rural projects and you get our Swiss cheese roads.

The Winter is what really turn me down I hate snow and cold. I have been living here for 15 years if not the city is great place
Indy doesnt get nearly as much snow as cities like Chicago and Detroit. Winters in Indy are not as horrible as some make it out to be.
the Pacers brought me here x)
They're also putting up new cameras all over downtown so the police can tell your family what color mask the person who shot you was wearing.
Most likely it will be the blue one with Indy in white letters😂 Your comment is probably the best one I read here in the comments section! 💯😂
Born & raised here in "Naptown" and moved to Tampa at 16. Both cities are home and I enjoy both of them very much... Naptown 34th st & Port Tampa #SOG
yep I agree, two really good cities.
@Johnny Rep bro I was literally around the corner from you. Old Remebrandt apartments, Dale Mabry, Gandy. AFB has it's on city behind them gates
Some good drone video!
Thankyou Robert
If you ever showcase smaller cities, Noblesville is a great and beautiful suburb of Indy!
I agree! And everyone there is so nice too (:
Yea would love to do more of the smaller cities in Indiana.
Love Indy lived her my entire life!!
Deserves more views tbh
Came here because I loved that book whose main character lived here.
Would to see you do one on Louisville!! 😛😛
Monument Circle reminds me of the sculptures in Philadelphia that are from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to the Courthouse.
yep we filmed this as well in our FL to NY video
@@TampaAerialMedia I spent 8 days in Philly walking the city and riding the trolleys to see the old founding sites. Partial genealogy tour. I will check out your video on it. Thank you. My favorite place was the fountain with all the Native American sculptures in it. It’s a grand city where the full plan was never completed, at least they got that one street completed for the exposition.
I wish you did some filming on Mass Ave! I would have loved to see my restaurant in your vid :)
Please stay safe you guys.!'
Dang it I live in Indy! Wish to have seen ya there!
Proud to live here!
The musics you've put in this video are pretty ear-catchy.Can you please put the link of those musics? I want to listen them individually.
They are in this order 1."Acoustic Logo" by Wheatman (e), 2."Emotional Cinematic Intro(e),3. "Jazz It Up" by Allen Grey (e), 4."That Lost Summer" by Gears in Grass, 5."Life Aspirations" by Evan MacDonald(pb),6. "A Charmed Life" by GYOM(pb), 7. "Chill Beach Pop" by Single FX (e). No one talks about this city but acknowledged its presence
Great job on the video
Thankyou for the nice words.
okay im so confused why this is in my recommended, its like they know where I live...
They do, Google knows everything.
BUT THATS A FACT, WE HOOSIER STRONG 💪
I haven't seen a play place in the circle center mall
How did you not talk about Indiana’s Basketball Cathedral?!?!😭 Hinkle Fieldhouse is incredible! (You also forgot Bankers Life Fieldhouse and Lilly) but still like this video a lot!
yep we should have mentioned that.
I would like live in this wonderfull city. Como me gustaría vivir en esta maravillosa Ciudad
Lol, they make it look better than it is.
I live in Indianapolis and I went down town before
Beautiful video!! New to your channel! Looking for Louisville 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Yep we shot some of Louisville, at some point we'll edit it and show the video.
fun fact: Indianapolis has the most monuments and memorials than any American city except Washington, D.C.
I first found you doing a video about St Augustine, FLO. I had NO idea you also documented Indy. MY HOME TOWN :) Great video! I really like living here.
Thanks Iwonka for sharing, yea always good to found out how people first found us.
