i'm almost 30 and I just realized that only the Philippines do this. it never occurred to me that other countries don't do this, because this is so normal, from like preschool to college 😂
I also thought the same. Actually ngayon ko lang nalaman sa Herrera siblings na di pala kumakanta ng graduation song sa ibang bansa . More fun in the Philippines talaga 😂😂😂
Hahahahhahhaha narealize ko nung lumipat aq ng highschool sa ibang bansa kasi nung elem aq hahaha nagpractice pa kami ng graduation song para umiyak siguro kmi😂
The songs sung during graduation are usually tributes to parents, acknowledging their efforts and sacrifices in putting children to school. It's like saying "mom, dad let me say thank you and let me make you smile."
in our day, it was often a religious song like "one more gift" and "lift up your hands to God", or the youth being promise of the future (HA!) like "yesterday's dream".
Yes, we did this. The rehearsals included having us open our mouths wide for vocalization. Mind you, we were not just singing the melody. We were divided into different voices to harmonize. It was epic.
Every graduation ceremony here in the Philippines is really a big deal. Every batch (from pre-school to college) has a unique theme song that they'll remember and treasure for the rest of their lives. And for sure, they'll all sing it again and again during class reunions. I could still remember my high school graduation song "Somewhere" from the West Side story, some 30 plus years ago. 🤗🤗🤗
it is a tradition of most Schools in the Philippines to have a graduation song and every graduate will sing it during graduation. .. you can ask any Filipino what is their graduation song and most of the time you can get an answer and you can see starts to remember their days in school. My batch was "Climb every mountain " from sound of music
It's normal happening in the Philippines.. All schools from daycare to college. We sing our heart out because it is the most unforgivable moments.. well can't express much..
Graduation song is a normal thing in the Philippines. We usually practice and memorize it weeks before graduation. I still memorize my fave graduation song which we sang in high school - "Thank You Once Again".
All graduation day in the Philippines has a graduation songs. Everone has to sing thier graduation song or farewell songs before the closing program. That's how in the Philippines.
Im from 80's and back then, the most played 2 songs aside from the official graduation song were "High school life" by Sharon Cuneta and "Farewell to you my friend" by Raymond Lauchengco. Most of us cried😢 because we knew that after the even, many of us might not see each other again.

Here in the Philippines from Prep, Elementary, and Secondary, singing a graduation song is a must. On tune or out of tune. Because it is part of graduation rites. Yes, graduation rite venue is always held at the school gymnasium. Singing a graduation song is a tribute to our parent, teachers friends and classmate.. I remember way back, we sing 2 song on my HS graduation rites. TItle Farewell to you my friend and Like on eagle.
Yes, graduation song is part of the rites. We devote at least 1 week to practice and teachers are quite strict when it comes to singing and they would ask you to repeat the song again and again if they're not satisfied with the performance. It's one of the highlights in every graduation ceremony aside from receiving the diplomas. 😊😊
Singing in graduation here in the Philippines is our way to thanks Our Teachers, peers, classmates and most especially our PARENTS. The emotion, the feeling of gratitude soar up high while singing graduation song. Most of the students cried
Making graduation memorable for the students and also performing a graduation songs to show tribute to everyone throughout our school journey. It literally last half of the day.
We did this during our HS graduation as well back in ‘72 in the Philippines (yes-I’m an old lady now, in fact, I just retired). There was a big production before receiving our diplomas. It was a pain rehearsing though because coordination was hard but I was able to coordinate, train, and then we all performed for our teachers, principals, and founders. We did a medley of all the “goodbye” songs we knew back then including “Nananana, nananana, hey, hey, hey, goodbye! etc…” complete with accompaniment, harmony, and lots of enthusiasm. Even got to design our graduation dresses (white, closed necked mini dress in this really soft, thin, material with fitted waist and short, biased cut, flowing skirt with long, bell shaped sleeves for the girls paired with white, 2 inch, squared-heeled, close toed shoes as well as the outfits for the boys (long sleeved white shirt with black ribbon tie, black pants, and black shoes-everything had to be uniform since we were in a Catholic school). We didn’t wear graduation gowns then either. It was a lot of fun for us! Didn’t realize that not only did they not have performances during graduations in the US but that they were also quite boring in comparison. Hahahaha!
This performances from graduation is like a "thank you" gift of the students for their parents and teachers/school staffs. And this is our way making it memorable too♥️
Waleska and Efra, the same is true throughout the Philippines. I attended my son's (senior high) graduation rite July 13,2023 here in Mindanao and witnessed similar "entertainment" performed by the graduates 😆
This is very common in PH from grade school, high school and perhaps in some universities as well, but in High school is the most emotional for us because we wouldn't see our friends, some will go to different universities and some will work. This is also a tribute to parents/guardians as a thank you for all their hard work and sacrifices. I cried while singing "Do I Make You Proud"
Our graduation song was The Journey by Lea Salonga. This year and the previous many schools choose the songs of SB19 as their graduation song. I've seen MaPa, Ikako, Go Up, & SLMT. Nowadays, they even have graduation dance. I've seen graduates danced Crimzone.
Just today, i saw a graduation video where students were dancing to SB19's Crimzone. That was really fun i hope more schools do this. It's something that the grads will truly remember for the rest of their lives.
During my college graduation.. our graduation song was “Sailing” because I graduated in a Maritime School. And our pianist was none other than our college dean. How cool was that?😁

We have been doing this for decades for everytime we graduate, from prep, elementary, highschool and university. Like a preparation for the new chapter of our lives and a tribute to everyone that’s been part of our journey. It was a very special and emotional moment for us, it wasnt just a performance but a moment to remember our journey. This is a really good tradition and I hope we will always keep it💕
I had batchmate in HS and their graduation song in elementary was My heart will go on. there was a lead singer and unfortunately her voice cracked. Titanic was huge that year.
Our graduation song is a whole production, singing, with choreo, with props, sometimes lightings. It is practiced weeks before the graduation. We've been doing it for decades.
It is how graduation is in the Philippines, for high school that is. Normally, high school graduation are held in the school gym or auditorium. Back in the late 80s -90s one of the common graduation songs is That’s what Friends are for. All graduates are given the set of songs that will be performed so the students can study the song, usually 2 songs minimum are performed by everyone during graduation. No practice done as a whole, we just sing it after the graduation rites
it depends on the school. some of this seem like they practiced all together at least once or twice. during my HS, we practiced in the gym a few times for this if I remember correctly
We also sing a song for our Parents, for "tribute to Parents". It is also part of the graduation program!!! Congratulations to all who graduated this year!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🤗🍒
Just this year 2023 more schools do this kind of very memorable graduation rites so enjoyable and unforgetable moments for all the graduates so happy and so proud being a filipino mabuhay philippines❤❤❤thank u so much waleska and efra for always supporting and reacting filipino talents❤❤❤were also here to support you guys😊 from philippines with love❤❤❤
Singing the chorus is the cue to start crying 😂😭 laughing and crying at the same time actually. Laughing because you see your friend crying, and crying because you'll miss them.
During our graduation day we also sing multiple song before ending our graduation ceremony, and the best song that we'll sang was "helium" grabe yung goosebump hangang ngayon feel ko pa rin. 😍
It's a graduation song and dance. A song chosen by the students which for them reflects what they want to achieve, thank you message for their parents.
That's their graduation song. All graduation rites feature the graduates singing. Our music teacher is in charge of their practice. This is one of the highlights usually after diplomas are distributed.
Yeah. I remember that we spent the whole last 2 weeks practicing at least 2 songs before the actual date. And to add more to that, literally each one should sing the song individually in front of the class to make sure everyone memorized the whole lyrics and melody. You have to stay at the front of the class until you sing it correctly at least. It is always worth it on the actual performance in the ceremony. I always loved that part. lol
Yup, that's Philippines graduation. We always have graduations songs, usually 3 songs. And everyone is required to attend (like a week of) practice singing before the graduation day. Everyone is singing on graduation day. There is no main character or main singers. I really miss this singing culture of my Philippines. I'm in the US.
Man this is very nostalgic, back when we were in 2nd year highschool before moving up into 3rd year we had a song for the entire 2nd year highschool students. Our group was always assigned to Soprano while Alto, tenor etc assigned to other sections. And finally before graduating highschool we had a memorable graduation song.
I genuinely thought this was us singing because A Million Dreams was our FAREWELL song when we graduated senior all that with the synchronized actions. Our graduation song was BORN THIS WAY and it was amazing being there. 🥺
I graduated college last 2007, and our graduation song is Go The Distance by Michael Bolton. It's common in our country to have a special song number by graduates singing motivational/inpirational songs as they move forward to another level in life.
OMG Thank you for reacting to my video of the graduation song that we organized for the Senior High School students of Notre Dame of Dadiangas University (NDDU), General Santos City. I just found out now! Haha. I am a certified voice artist and have taught in that school, those are our students who graduated in 2019. The very last batch who graduated before the pandemic lockdowns. My co-teacher Dianne, who is also a fellow performer way back in college days, choreographed the simple steps for A MILLION DREAMS. Other schools then made their own versions of musical graduation numbers, and they were also cute. And then it became a thing. ❤ Thank you for reacting.
I remember back in 2001, our graduation song was "I Turn To You" that served as our Thanksgiving song to all the parents and teachers who guided us along the way. This moment also gave me chills. ❤️ I feel like I was there with their parents watching the ceremony and thinking about how fast things were and now seeing their kids in white toga (vest).
its already a tradition in every graduating batch to have a song with some interpretative dance if i may say. i suddenly remember when the pope came and the crowd sang "let us tell the world of his love"- a filipino composed song for the world youth day attended by millions wc i believe was also used in other countries when the pope visited.
Back when I was in highschool, it was the school’s tradition to hold a grad song competition. Each graduating class/sections is required to compose a song and perform it (with harmonization and simple choreo) The winning song was sung and performed by the whole batch during the graduation day. 😄
I think this one of the reasons why many Filipino can sing.. from preschool to college its required for you to sing in graduations. As tribute to your parents, teachers and people who made your journey memorable. 😊
Usually the week before graduation is dedicated for grad rehearsals and practicing graduation songs. That's for both elementary graduation and highschool graduation.
Every batch has its own graduation song as we parted ways with our classmates and teachers.feeling emotional hearing my graduation song after so many years.brings back good old days
Actually in the Philippines, We USUALY held graduations in the Gymnasium, and in every school we do Graduation songs, even in the university also... I remember in our college our graduation song is ONE MOMENT IN TIME...
graduation rehearsals are so hard tho😭 HAHAHAHA the practice time lasts for 3-4 weeks for us to "perfect" it. esp my school, they were so strict but very fun tho, its like a tradition? to sing one song and another song made by the students and all of them have to have some type of actions/dances
Our high school graduation song was "Hand in Hand We Stand", we almost didn't finish the song because we were overwhelmed with a lot of emotions. We felt a little victorious of finishing high school; however, we realized its our final day of seeing each other combined with the excitement and worries of going to college. These emotions were in us while singing our song.🎉😢🎉😮😢
Thank you for your acceptance to watch..why pilipino sing doing a graduation...this is the pilipino tradition for being a student. Happines is the life ..
..it’s a norm to have graduation songs for the whole batch in the Philippines..song rehearsals starts about 2 mos before the graduation day..we usually have 3 songs, 1 song as Tribute to our parents/guardians, 1 song as Tribute to our hardwork and the friendship we’ve had over the years and 1 Graduation Song for the Batch (a song that usually embodies your whole journey)..it is really fun and until now, I still remember all the graduation songs we sang during our time..lol..❤❤❤❤❤
haha and on top of that SB19 songs like MaPa, Go Up, Ikako and Crimzone are also performed by the students during their graduation. It just clearly means that SB19 songs are always RELEVANT to any occassions haha. There are several tiktoks about it pls check it out!!
Graduation song is always part of every graduation ceremony. Nowadays, SB19 songs are always chosen as grad songs like MAPA,SLMT,GO UP, IKAKO and what we didn't expect is SB19's CRIMZONE 😆 yesterday we saw an upload here on youtube where graduating students singing, jamming and dancing with it, it's really fun 😂
Even SB19 songs are used as graduation songs. Its actually a thing in the Philippines. Even we graduated in pre school, I remember that time we sang "Thanks to you"
This was always one of the best moments. Most schools here in the Philippines do this. The stress the music teachers go through though to make this happen. I remember my highschool music teacher was really a very strict and scary one. But man, I forgot what we sang during my highschool graduation.. Not sure with other schools, but in my province since we don't really have that many students, when practicing the graduation song, the students get separated according to their vocal designations. So we have people singing base to soprano just like in a choir.
Yes! It is ! Waleska, Thats we are here in the philippines. We have a graduation song . With a choreography in it. From daycare, kinder garten , elementary grade ang high school. We offer our songs to our beloved parents, guardians, grand parents who's been there for us to support and sacrifice throughout the years. Its a tribute to them.
this is also the song that we sang in our final year in senior high- batch 2021-2022, we even made it to the national tv (unang hirit) lol we're in the front row 🙌🏼
I remember way back year 2000 when I graduated in high school ..we sang "farewell to you my friend" this was one of the most graduation theme song in every graduation ,back then
Agree. In the school where I teach, the graduating levels (grade 6, grade 10 and grade 12) are asked to compose their graduation song (lyrics, musical arrangement and everything) with assistance from their Music teacher. Then they have a per section competition to choose the batch song. I am impressed with how they can compose their own song for this event.
Our high school graduation song was Impossible Dream. Yes, it was normal in the Philippines :) Thanks again you two, most adorable and witty youtube personalities I've known. Love you both!
It's part of our Filipino tradition to dedicate every song to our parents because they sacrificed a lot for us. Seeing us holding a diploma is the proudest moment for them. ❤
Music is already embeded in our culture,Its already a way of life for us Filipinos.Graduation day is also an opportunity for students to show their appreciation for their parents and teachers and even school guards and canteen workers. Show of gratitude and respect is always part of Filipinos graduation day.
This year recurs my 30 years high school graduation anniversary and I still remember we sang our graduation song “A Whole New World” which was trending at that time. We also sang our own graduation song chosen from the entries submitted by each class of the graduating batch.
Yep. This is normal here in PH. I saw lots of graduation songs using SB19 music like MaPa, Go up, and even Crimzone. 💙💠 Didn't realize Crimzone would be a fitting song in a graduation til I saw one. It's true that students give it all-sweat, blood, & tears to graduate. 🎓💖
Well i saw one singing to SB19’ CRIMZON DRIP, which is appropriate, after hard work, blood , sweat and tears….finally graduating…amazing….only in the Philippines…lol❤❤❤
It's a tradition in the Philippines. Every graduation batch in elementary/grade school and high school always has a song number on their graduation day. It's sort of a tribute to parents, but the song also serves as bonding music for the batch. I even still remember mine - I'll Remember by Madonna. Heck, even the titos and titas (and most likely our lolos and lolas!) went through it during their time. 😆
I also did this on my graduation 🎓 way back 2005 when I graduated from highschool. 🎉 We sang "Follow Your Dream" by Sheryn Regis as our graduation song. We also have another song dedicated to parents, on my time it was "Iingatan Ka" by Carol Banawa. It's a song thanking our parents who raised us and sent us to school.
When I was in high school, we sang “Thanks to You” and our Alma Mater song for pur graduation. Rehearsal was per class and we were assign which voicing we should sing and our music teacher was supervising like 10 classes. Still it was really amazing. Those were good times.
its actually a tradition here in the Philippines to sing on graduation day. the songs are either we thank our teachers or we are welcoming our future. and high school is the happiest part of our lives so we always make it memorable esp on graduation day
It's a graduation tradition for both High School and College graduates here in the Philippines to sing their preferred theme songs. Before graduation day usually they practice at least an hour a day for 1 to 2 weeks. (Es una tradición de graduación para los graduados de la escuela secundaria y la universidad aquí en Filipinas cantar sus temas musicales preferidos. Antes del día de la graduación, generalmente practican al menos una hora al día durante 1 a 2 semanas.)
Yes, we always have graduation songs.. not sure about college, but highschool we have. It’s one of the reasons why graduating students finish their final exams earlier because we still have to practice our mass songs & graduations songs. Ours was Friends are Friends Forever by Michael W. Smith.
Us in the Philippines likes to joke around about how wild it would be our life is like a musical where we can just burst into singing randomly, not realizing that we are probably living a life so close to a musical since we just sing all the time 😂
Yes, all graduation ceremonies in our country has this part where all the graduates sing a song. Most if the time the graduates become emotional in this part.
I remember i was crying so hard and singing at the same time during graduation ( we sang Farewell in elementary and Glowing Inside in high school) Our graduation in ph is always like this. The soon to be graduates would practice the song everyday, a week or 2 before graduation day. Very memorable. 😊 Btw, I am watching this at past 12am and forgot it's past 12am so i laughed loudly during Efra's storytime about Katherine. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's an achievement to us that we're graduated in kindergarten, elementary and highschool that's the way we thanks our parents, teachers and family in our graduation... It's tradition in every graduation..
It is in our tradition to sing a graduation song that will give morale to students on their journey to their next level in life :D This song will always be embedded in our hearts and minds and will remind us of our goals in life. Amazingly, it also gives the nostalgia of the past :D Some songs are also tributes to parents and teachers :D My batch was "Next in Line by Wency Cornejo" and "Thanks to You by Tyler Collins". Check out these songs :D
Damn, didn't even realized how we engrain music IN GRADUATION/RECOGNITION RITES! Good job, Philippines 🇵🇭 I firmly believe we truly live in a musical (and I got main character disease😂)

Omg I didn't know either, we sang Farewell and Lift up your hands late 90s haha
From kinder garten to college😂 I also thought its normal to sing every graduation😂
We do this in my country CONGO ...
We sing and dance to the tune of Conga.... pramis...charot charot 😂😂😂
That's the second song. The first song is about the graduates.
True
For our classmates too... the happy memories we shared... We're already crying during practice 😅
in our day, it was often a religious song like "one more gift" and "lift up your hands to God", or the youth being promise of the future (HA!) like "yesterday's dream".

During our graduation day we also sing multiple song before ending our graduation ceremony, and the best song that we'll sang was "helium" grabe yung goosebump hangang ngayon feel ko pa rin. 😍
Our graduation song in college back then was “I Believe”. Yes we performed it as a whole cohort, & yes, this only happens in Philippines❤
It's a graduation song and dance. A song chosen by the students which for them reflects what they want to achieve, thank you message for their parents.
we had "minsan" back in the 90s. and we wore filipiniana instead of togas. it could also be a reflection of the times.
Love how excited Efra is. His face in anticipation of waleska’s reaction at the beginning 😂
This will always be like a mandatory thing that every graduating students would sing in every graduation in any part of the Philippines 🎉
I remember back in 2001, our graduation song was "I Turn To You" that served as our Thanksgiving song to all the parents and teachers who guided us along the way.
This moment also gave me chills. ❤️
I feel like I was there with their parents watching the ceremony and thinking about how fast things were and now seeing their kids in white toga (vest).
its already a tradition in every graduating batch to have a song with some interpretative dance if i may say. i suddenly remember when the pope came and the crowd sang "let us tell the world of his love"- a filipino composed song for the world youth day attended by millions wc i believe was also used in other countries when the pope visited.
Back when I was in highschool, it was the school’s tradition to hold a grad song competition. Each graduating class/sections is required to compose a song and perform it (with harmonization and simple choreo) The winning song was sung and performed by the whole batch during the graduation day. 😄
For our high school Graduation we had to compose our own song and it was printed in our year book. It was quite special
just graduated also, and we danced to SB19's Go Up. as an A'tin, the happiest graduation day I had💙💙
we even did a wave with our caps, so much fun💙
Back in my younger years we prepared and performed 2 songs for graduation. One dedicated to our parents and one for the graduates..
I remember in our college our graduation song is ONE MOMENT IN TIME...
graduation rehearsals are so hard tho😭 HAHAHAHA the practice time lasts for 3-4 weeks for us to "perfect" it. esp my school, they were so strict but very fun tho, its like a tradition? to sing one song and another song made by the students and all of them have to have some type of actions/dances
our school even lets us compose our own graduation song and lets the students perform the live band on the ceremony as well. Its amazing actually
When I graduated from high school way back in 1988, we sang "Farewell to you my friend" by Raymund Lauchengco.
you should also check schools using SB19 songs, the crimzone songs is super hype
Upp
Up
Thank you for your acceptance to watch..why pilipino sing doing a graduation...this is the pilipino tradition for being a student. Happines is the life ..
Just realized this is unique to us in the PH lol during my Highschool graduation back in 2007, we sang Through The Years 😂
..it’s a norm to have graduation songs for the whole batch in the Philippines..song rehearsals starts about 2 mos before the graduation day..we usually have 3 songs, 1 song as Tribute to our parents/guardians, 1 song as Tribute to our hardwork and the friendship we’ve had over the years and 1 Graduation Song for the Batch (a song that usually embodies your whole journey)..it is really fun and until now, I still remember all the graduation songs we sang during our time..lol..❤❤❤❤❤
we always have graduation song in every school when graduating, not everyone has choreo tho
haha and on top of that SB19 songs like MaPa, Go Up, Ikako and Crimzone are also performed by the students during their graduation. It just clearly means that SB19 songs are always RELEVANT to any occassions haha. There are several tiktoks about it pls check it out!!
Lol that part of the graduation ceremony is the most emotional i think. It was really overwhelming so you can't really help but cry 🤣
All graduation ceremony in the Philippines we need to sing and dance with no exception. 😅😅
I remember way back year 2000 when I graduated in high school ..we sang "farewell to you my friend" this was one of the most graduation theme song in every graduation ,back then
Ohhh,I remembered every graduation we used to sing.
Graduation song,miss those memories 🌹🌹🌹
That's our graduation song, too, way back 1999
That was an ageless song.
I was one of those students graduated in that video. THEY WERE REALLY STRICT WHEN IT COMES TO PRACTICE AND ALL. IT WAS CRAZY
Graduation songs (inspirstional & gratitude song) is anorm in a graduation here in the Philippines.. they practice before hand 🎉 ❤
Didn't realize Crimzone would be a fitting song in a graduation til I saw one. It's true that students give it all-sweat, blood, & tears to graduate. 🎓💖
Same, but Crimzone lyrics indeed is also fitting.
Filipino Parents take pride in sending their children to school, the graduates express gratitude with a performance.
Some kids recently danced to CRIMZONE by SB19 for their graduation hahahaha
yes .. pwd pala pang graduation yun hahaha A'TIN ata principal ng school na yun eh 🤣🤣🤣
I miss school. I remember we sing "Heal the World " when I graduate in high school.... I want to go back in time, best time of my life.
Speaking of graduations, I happen to see a high school graduation who did SB19's CRIMZONE 😊
Upp
its actually a tradition here in the Philippines to sing on graduation day. the songs are either we thank our teachers or we are welcoming our future. and high school is the happiest part of our lives so we always make it memorable esp on graduation day
It's a graduation tradition for both High School and College graduates here in the Philippines to sing their preferred theme songs.
Yes, "Glowing Inside" was once used in a shampoo ad.
Im so shocked that they dont know this. Growing up I really thought that this is normal all around the world.
Damn, didn't even realized how we engrain music IN GRADUATION/RECOGNITION RITES! Good job, Philippines 🇵🇭
I firmly believe we truly live in a musical (and I got main character disease😂)
there should be an entire musical about the PH lol
