Hi, I was a part of the SHS Graduation. The song is from the movie "The Greatest Showman" (A Million Dreams). We practiced this for 2-3 weeks along with the graduation ceremony, maybe. I don't know for sure, as it was 4 years ago HAHAHA. It was really fun and memorable. The choreography was really corny; I mean, we wore white gloves on that day, while some wore white socks on their hands HAHAHA. The practice took us a long time because the boys made fun of the actions of the song, but in the end, we really sang it from our hearts HAHAHA. Every student there used two LCC lighters when the gym lights turned off. The lighter we used had a light at the bottom of it, so yeah, let there be light HAHAHAHA. It was nice being there, but also sad knowing you and your friends will be parting ways to different college schools. But that's just how life is 😅. I kinda miss them a lot, so I hope we get to see each other soon at our batch reunion. By the way, there were 1200+ students graduating in that video. And to answer your question, they can reunite us students to come and practice by having an attendance sheet and by scaring us that if we don't come, then we wouldn't get our good moral certificate from the school HAHAHAHA. But yeah, all in all, it was fun and worth it.

The Philippines always has graduation songs as part of the Recognition Day program... it really gives you goosebumps and teary-eyed, some even crying while singing... You cant help it when you're there experiencing it. During practice, you cannot feel anything special about the song, but it feels so different when you are singing during graduation day with all the graduates, esp when you knw that your parents/ loved-ones were among the crowds watching you so proudly 🥲. I feel so nostalgic right now...

Even in the past, singing during graduations was customary in the Philippines. We sang as a group(graduates) during my elementary school graduation in the 1980s, and for my high school graduation in the latter half of the decade, we had a group of chosen students on stage directing the singing. It was the same in college. This is therefore a rather common practice in the Philippines.

There is actually a reason for the Graduation Song in the Philippines. Unlike other countries, we can't throw our graduation caps at the end of the ceremony, because we rent it out and needed to return it to the school or to wherever we rent our graduation robes and caps. If its damaged we need to pay for it double the price. So instead of throwing the caps, WE SING. ✨✨
Its a common thing for us to have a graduation song from preschool to college. You can even ask anyone who graduated in the Philippines what's their Graduation song. MIne is (Pre-School - "Yesterday's Dream by Donna Cruz"), (Grade School - "Thanks To You by Tyler Collins"), (Highschool "Showing Us The Way by Michael Ficocelli), (College - "Friends Forever - by Vitamin C" - we chose this song because we are the last batch of millennials that are graduating) ❤❤

They are the Senior High School of Notre Dame of Dadiangas, in General Santos City.
Here in the Philippines, every graduation, singing is already part of the event. Teachers would grant the graduating students of what song they would wish to perform. Rehearsals after class is kind of fun too. It is a very happy memory of being in school. Singing is slso part in every school Mass, like nuns would assign a class to sing during the event. They will not choose certain students, its always the whole class will be the choir of the Mass.
I remember during my grade school and high school years, the graduation song that is mostly sung in many schools is the song "Farewell To You My Friend", by Raymond Lauchengco.

Then during highschool we sang "breakaway". Mostly song lyrics were given to us 2-3 weeks before grad and there will be a general rehearsal gathering all the graduating students before the big day. 😂 Moments like this are indeed memorable not just because we are graduating but because the whole batch sings farewell songs together.. ☺️

Hello Ovela! This is actually one of the less-known traditions in the Philippines -- in schools all throughout the country, whenever a graduation ceremony is held, there is always a graduation son for that particular batch. It is a form of tribute to parents and teachers and a way to bond with batchmates. Ask a Filipino what his high school graduation song is and he or she will remember it along with his or her misadventures in school (I even still remember mine, lol). The practice even goes all the way back to our parents' and grandparents' time 😆

I remember my time, we had to open our mouth wide and the instructor would ask us to fit our fist inside our mouth and there were vocalization. And we didn’t just sing the melody, we had different voices and we had to harmonize.

filipinos love to sing whenever wherever with hand gestures like sort of interpretative dance. when the pope visited the country for world youth day, filipino composed song " let us tell the world of His love" for the event and had it played and interepreted with hand gestures by millions filipinos.every graduating batch chooses a song which describes their whole school life and journey like. some songs about inspirations, friendship and aspirations. it the time of the ceremony when most would cry out all the years of hardships and friendships built so its not just showing off but a parting message for all.

Hi Ovela, I am Harlem (aka Papa Lem). I recorded uploaded the video back in 2019 for our Senior High School students. I was a teacher at that university, Notre Dame of Dadiangas University (NDDU) in General Santos City, Philippines. The graduation rites is held at the Lagao Gymnasium (Gensan Gym), a popular venue for all large gatherings like graduation, sports events. Thank you for reacting. I love it. My co-teacher and fellow performer way back in college, Dianne Diaz, created this choreography. We graduated in Mindanao State University (MSU) Gensan, and hoped to bring our artistic expression where we teach. Im not a teacher anymore, I am now a goverment communicator and a professional Voice Artist on the side. I love that you took time reacting to this.
Btw, Dianne and I both graduated to General Santos City National High School where we learned this type of discipline. We just added choreography. Also try searching for graduation rites done in that high school.
The discipline that we had in Public School was our guide in making all of this possible for a Private School like NDDU. It was risky since discipline is different in each type of school. The outcome is just overwhelming. We love these students, and I miss them.
This was also the last graduation of the SHS students before the pandemic, lockdowns, so it became more memorable. The next set of graduating students did not experience the same face to face graduation until 2022 I think.

Our graduation songs are to pay tribute to our teachers, classmates, friends, family, and our Alma Mater. Often, especially in High School graduations, that's when the venue is filled with tears, emotional moments for graduates as they were able to overcome the years of challenges and are now parting with beloved friends; and for parents coz it's an accomplishment for them to have a kid finish a level of schooling. Grad ceremonies in PH aren't complete without a grad song. If there's choreography there, it wasn't to show off... just a way to make it more special. Some even have special parts like giving of flowers to their parents/teachers after singing the grad song (applicable to small batch of graduates of course). As always, great reaction :)

I'm crying, jealous, and I feel sooo incomplete. I wasn't able to experience this during my Senior High School supposedly a graduation due of the pandemic and that is really really missed a part of my life. No graduation picture wasn't able to wear a graduation gown (toga), no marching on stage. Haist, I am really jealous. To all graduates and JHS completers congratulations!!!
    PS.
Guys, don't forget kindergarten has graduation songs too. Ours was "Journey" by Lea Salonga~

You're right Sir; it's very memorable. During our graduation in primary school we sang "Together we stand, divided we fall". In highschool we sang "This is my now" and another one which I forgot.
And just to share, during recognition day/graduation day in our school there are some intermission numbers too from each grade level, wether it be singing or dancing. I used to be part of a dancing or singing group in our class. 😁

I am Filipino and i fondly remember my high school graduation back in 1974. My classmates and I (all 40 boys) all stood together shoulder to shoulder onstage for the last time to take a bow. For our graduation song, we sang Petula Clark's 'You and I' and Leslie Bricusse's composition, 'Fill the World with Love'. Wow, i got chills recalling the lyrics as i realize the message as being timeless, universal, and so hauntingly true. For those of us who are still around and in touch, we will be singing these songs at our upcoming 50th graduation anniversary celebration.

They sing in gusto and enthusiasm because of joy that they have overcome the hurdles of the four years spent in school.

Hi Ovela.. NDDU means Notre Dame of Dadiangas University. It is located here in General Santos City. It is a famous private school here in our place. By the way, Dadiangas is a kind of a tree here in the Philippines, it was also derived as a name of a place. Before our city was called General Santos, it was then called Dadiangas. btw, this city is also the hometown of Manny Pacquiao and known as the Tuna Capital of the Philippines.
