Hi, I'm one of the students who performed there! Our teacher is Teacher Malaya! It's sad that we Don have ukulele at grade 5 to college. Our school in the Philippines, dipolog is Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School. Grades 1-4 performed this. I am a grade 4 pupil. The song we played is called One Day. The second song is called Remember us this way. We have practised for 1-2 months for this. Thank you all for making this popular and making this possible. We are more than 100 kids, possibly 200-500 kids.
Growing up in the Philippines I remember singing the National anthem with the whole school in the school yard then once everybody is in the classroom the day starts with a little program where teacher assigns an MC for the day and the MC gets to call on the performers one by one to perform in front of the class. It’s kept simple with usually solo singing or poem presentation. I didn’t realize then that it was a form of character development besides being trained for literary and musical.
Oh yes I was very much a part of that era...even up to high school. Homeroom programs. Also there were be annual folk dancing competitions in all the barrio schools in our town After the flag ceremony we will have a 30 mins practice daily where our dance teacher is on stage coaching everyone. Weekends were devoted to practice too. And you can be excused in class if there are special practice to further polish the performance. Its an affair that everyone in the community would not miss, parents specially, as it is presented in the town plaza. My mom would complain, bcoz all 4 siblings join and the expense for costumes is not in her budget. But people are very kind to lend old costumes.😊
@@minaflores6650 indeed :) I sang Isang Linggong Pag-ibig in Grade 1 then Selena's dreaming of you in Grade 2 I only did poems in Grade 3 because I realized how off key I was. Those were the best mornings of my Elementary Life.
The boy you're a fond of is actually my nephew, his name is Ashton and he'd be so proud of himself because you happened to notice him. So thank you! Hahahahahahaha sending love from the Philippines.
this is part of our educational curriculum .. music. as we grow up we are introduced to music.. aside from singing.. ( the national anthem, traditional/folk songs and even pop songs) we are introduced to musical instruments.. the most basic is the ukelele ...
This was one of our subject in grade school Music and Arts, my favorite subject ever besides recess. Not to brag, I am a wedding singer now. I think this benefited me of being a choir member back in school days 🤭🤔😉😎
Music is a thing in the Philippines. Young and old are hopelessly romantic when it comes to listening to good music, singing, or playing musical instruments. My niece learned to play clarinet at an early age. She goes with her dad in every music stint our hometown band is invited to. She took it after her father who is a trumpeter and guitarist. My family excels in creative arts. Our father was a well-known musician who taught music and played trumpets, drums, and guitar. Though i stopped playing the guitar after an accident and hurt one of my fingers, I did well in watercolor painting.
the teacher is very IMPRESSIVE AND SUPERB! my God how she was able to discipline and encourage these kids! wow wow wow i salute you teacher!❤️❤️❤️ congratulations kids for listening your teacher.
So true 😂 or every year we (in our school) we introduce ourselves by showing a talent in front of the class and 90% was singing lol even tho my classmates are all the same every year 😂😂😂😂 idk tho if my school still do this (elem-Hs)
You're right. Nursery rhymes are for nursery students toddlers. If uiu reach in elementary grade school you start singing these songs. Kids in Philippines have no problem in practicing,, they enjoy doing it.
In my mind your country already 'shines' and after traveling all around the Philippines 30+ times I also see that Pinoy are already the proudest people in the world Ingat/Amping to all the Pinoy out there Mahal Na mahal Pilipinas ako :):):)
I remember when i was a kid every morning we sang. all the children at the school and sang That's our morning routine. Every school in the Philippines that time has that routine they call it a flag ceremony. I remember we sang local Christmas songs. Nostalgia moment.
This is normal in the philippines. In my grade school days, i was a member of our rondalla group where i play ukelele and guitar. We accompany the singing of the philippine national anthem. We even do carollings every december where we sang house to house christmas songs. A group composed of 50 plus pupils/students. And even graduation ceremonies, the graduating students sing their farewel graduation song. I remember in my high school grad, we sang bridge over troubled water.
This is really usual in the Philippines. My father was once a conductor in a Rondalla which is an ensemble of stringed instruments. There would be around more or less 30 elementary students. It’s so fun because they would be playing on weekends early morning at our house and once they play, my sleep is over 😅
Schools in the Philippines, mostly in the province, have this special class for arts, music, dancing, acting, and speech and writing. Which is very much awesome because we don't pay for those things but the children get it free from their respected schools from their teachers as their mentor who will mould them starting from grade 1 up to grade 6 and continue until in high school. My daughters was a choir member at their school, they were taught about voice lessons while playing ukelele but that was before the pandemic started.
Soon as I saw the steps where they sat, my memory brought me back to my school days when we had to do the same musical or dance performances. And when I checked the original video, it was no surprise that the video was actually from the very same school I graduated from, the Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School, which recently celebrated its centennial anniversary. Bravo, DPDS!
i remember my elementary days, i played banduria and need to sing also every morning in flag ceremony, i think thats one way of vocalization🤔a happy memory in the Philippines❤
I remember doing something similar when I was in elementary back in the Philippines. The whole music class would perform on different venues, sometimes in another city and help get donations for our school. 😊
I remember my child when he was still in grade 1. I told him to sing a nutsery rhyme in front of my parents, his grandparents. He said" Mom, nursery rhymes are just for day care and kindergarten, I'm already in Grade 1".
Proud to be Filipino because ever since big value of music, dance, and performance are great the school develope the talent also compitition at age 6 there pageant like little miss and adorable kids❤❤❤
It brings back memories of my school days. We did have Music classes from elementary to high school (it's still in the curriculum today) where we all learn church songs (I know 4 versions of Our Father in English and 3 versions in Tagalog). If we're interested we can join the church choir or sign up for bandurria classes. Singing is such an integral part of school here. We sing the national anthem every morning. We have Music classes. We have choir competitions where every class has to participate. We have singing contests where you represent your class. We have school activities with intermission numbers which is almost always someone singing. There's also Buwan Ng Wika (Language Month) where we sing Tagalog songs exclusively in competitions.
This is actually my elementary school back in the Philippines and they did that to celebrate the 100th anniversary of my dear alma mater Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School ❤ ahh i miss that stairs i used to run and play there while waiting for my mom to pick me up after school..
What is so awsome with the Philippines's educational curriculum is the integration of music as a separate subject, from early learners 'till highschool. . .and a yearly "Song Fest" in every level and each section would perform competetively at school level. 🎉
hello waleska and efra. good day and peace be with you always. im a 65 yrs old FILIPINO and studied elementary education in a governments school in our place. during our times, there were a lot of extra curricular actvities in our school. one of which was playing in rondalla. we were taught on how to play a string instrument that was similar to a guitar but a smaller with different kind of strings. those were the days were we enjoy each we had to practice and performed in front of our parents, teachers and other invited guests. Oh how I missed those memories so much. thank you for featuring this and hope to see more. stay safe always and GOD BLESS US ALL !!! MORE POWER
Thank you for reacting to our performance you can't see me because I was on the other side and the person who recorded our performance is on the other side so my face is blurred but thank you so much we are so happy to see this thank you
❤❤❤ OMG! Totally reminded me of our bands in school. We had a strings band and lots of POP and rock bands. Learned to play Mandolin and guitar but eventually the drum kit called my name.
Ooooh! That’s my school! Batch 2012 here 🙋🏻♀️ I do remember during my 3rd grade there we were required to have our own ukelele because we all need to learn how to play it.
I am from Dipolog City and graduated from the same school Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School. The conductor in the video was also my conductor when we won choral competition in the Philippines :) Proud to be a product from DPDS! DPDS just celebrated its 100 years and just had its grand alumni homecoming this month, and our batch will also have Christmas reunion in December for Christmas holidays! Many DPDS alumni are now working in Philippine politics, mathematicians, scientists in the UK, chef in dubai a and more. Dipolog City is a very tiny coastal city in zamboanga del norte. :)
Reminds me of my childhood when I was a member of the community rondalla at our municipal in the Philippines. Thank you for featuring them. You both should come in the Philippines soon!

Does not matter if you are a street kid or rich kid in the Philippines they are so proud of their country and very patriotic even in the cinemas when they play the anthem EVERYONE will stand with hand over heart while it plays Mahal na mahal Pilipinas ako :)
many philippines secondary schools have school bands, rondalla (group using string instruments like guitar, banduria, octavina, bandolina, etc), music clubs/groups. aside from graduations, juniors and seniors prom activities have also a theme song every year. a great number of drummers playing on streets are worthy of your reactions. try looking for filipino festivals like dinagyang, maskara, sinulog , aliwan etc.
yo this is my school way back my elementary days Dipolog pilot Demonstration school, thats why i love singing and music in general, love this school and it celebrated its 100 years last july 8.
We do have MAPEH Classes where you probably do not have a choice but to sing or dance even thou you think you can't HAHAHAHAHA because in order to finish a certain grade or level, you have to pass MAPEH too. Music, Arts, Physical Ed, and Health. Aside from that, you get to always sing every weekday for flag ceremony before classes start where it is basically Prayer, National Anthem, Patriotic Oath, Sing the 'Ako ay Pilipino' and for us in MIMAROPA Region, we also sing the Palawan March and then, a Dancercise (Dance × Exercise).
can you imagine if 10 sections of a classroom can sing and play instrument? its like at the very early age they were trained and maybe "One Day" its one or two of them will be a great singers. "ONE DAY"
From kG,,,we learn how to sing,,its part of our subject to study,,,even we don't have good voices we require to sing even one song, then ,b4 start ,middle of the class and b4 going out and say goodbye we sang....like its part of Pilipino life...
lol but yes we had these in grade school too in the province. i played angklung while singing, piano and singing...music is highly encouraged so much so we have this program every Friday where all the students gather like a general assembly for an hour for school updates and a variety show😅 😅😅
in my 6th grade, we have music class but not with instruments. we were graded on how good we sing. Not in numbers but in vocal quality. since most of us kids have not hit puberty yet, our vocal pitches were high. Boy or Girl, you will be in the Soprano side of the room, if not then you go to the Bass side of the room.
children in the philippines starting young! now what's the percentage out of them all will become really good singers? probably a big percentage! but they probably become nurses or engineers and then go home and sing the karaoke at a really high caliber 😊😊
We do have this ukelele club during elementary days but not everyone can afford to buy ukelele (esp since it's a public school) so it's cool to see my classmates going to practice back then. I remember getting jealous because they can play a song.
Singing in school is just our punishment when we don't do good that's our consequence. At first we act shy but hahahaha well bruhh~~ singing? We're just having a hard time to think which song to pick than worrying our voice. 🥲😅 I miss my school days so bad. 🥲 Love your reactions 😍 Proud Pilipino here❤
Every morning during flag ceremony in schools there is always a conductor so that children can follow the notes.. it help children in their singing development, teacher would teach vocalization during events where classed compete against one another..during my days every after the flag ceremony and singing the school anthem, we will all have to dance to a trendy music as an exercise.. every child will have to go through this process unless they have disabilities

True. Other countries do have this subject as well, though.

Filipino or Filipina students was so very disciplined from home to their schools that's why they learned in a week or a days only.
This is literally the school where they train Filipinos to eventually join Efra’s group of Filipinos to welcome aliens on earth 😂
😂😂
😂😂😂 Now we know who's been watching Efra a lot.
😂😂oo nga amp😂😂parang May parating talaga

Every morning during flag ceremony in schools there is always a conductor so that children can follow the notes.. it help children in their singing development, teacher would teach vocalization during events where classed compete against one another..during my days every after the flag ceremony and singing the school anthem, we will all have to dance to a trendy music as an exercise.. every child will have to go through this process unless they have disabilities
That is so awesome! I never learned how to play ukelele....
To tell the truth, My friend told me that the teacher was funny, but she kind of screamed if she make a mistake.
