@@TedwardDrives why was the sl65 so quiet? I've heard it before and it has a pretty loud v12, even in your other video with this very car it was louder than today, was it in comfort mode?
@@ridgefrost stock, all Benz V12s are pretty quiet. Most people modify the exhaust, that's why you may think they are loud!
I have a 2007 s65 amg and yea it drinks gas like a mf but worth every penny

from 2005 to 2024 I think the only other Mercedes that looks better than SL65 Black Series is the SLS which is just insanely gorgeous
The plate on the LFA is perfect. The tourque on the SL65 is outrageous and the video is great.

1:02 I think I might’ve seen that Lexus LFA before! Same color, I believe! A few months ago or so, during the workday, I was driving west on Route 2, just before I got to the intersection with Bedford Road in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and it was heading east (downhill) on Route 2. In the past I’ve seen cars that I thought were the Lexus LFA but weren’t, so I couldn’t believe that I *actually* finally saw a Lexus LFA for the first time! It’s quite likely that it’s the same one, it’s not like there’s a surplus of those cars that were made.
Awesome video. A little surprised that Mercedes would put so much on the engine and not build the rest of the car to handle the power better. Not a complaint, just surprised when you told us. Looks like TOO MUCH FUN out there.👍

The SL65 AMG Black Series is an old car now and at that time Mercedes priority was just luxury and highest comfort. Not really to be sporty like Bmw and Porsche. Times have changed and AMG Black Series are giving Porsche a headache today

In my city in Switzerland we have an similar SL 65 Black Series with just 3`300 km. Its listed for 430`000 CHF

No rub, but the carbon is fairly noisy when it flexes and the suspension is unforgiving

Ive seen some awesome cars in my life, delivering around Scottsdale and Paradise Valley Arizona. Even seen an s65 AMG, but never that elusive SL65 black. Same with the LFA, never seen one in person. Did get to see a real Carrera GT though. Seeing both those cars in the same spot would be quite a special sight indeed. So very jealous.

SL65 is a pretty nuts car. not sure i'd buy one if i had that kind of money but i certainly respect it.
Cool Video! But the brake thing is strange... I had a W211 E class with that brake system for around 6 years. Although mine wasn't an AMG but a 4cyl Diesel. I found the brakes very confidence inspiring. Emergency braking was possible with "the pressure of just 1 toe": Just move the brake pedal fast (not hard, not far) and you will bite into the steering wheel.
It was the first standard brake system that "pulled off" the water film off the brake discs when it rained (therefore the e-class had a rain sensor as standard). That was incredible and didn't even increase wear (against my expectations)
The other thing was that it automatically controlled which wheel got how much brake pressure in corners. -> dirng hard braking in a corner, most cars will understeer. The SBC made it feel like you just kept the line you had chosen with or without braking.
But it had no ABS feel in the pedal, you just heard ABS working but didn't feel it in the pedal. Which i think is actually better for most drivers as they tend to lift off the brake when it starts pulsing, and that can make the difference between stopping before or in an obstacle.
The only downside in my 6 years of use of that brake system were the last few cenitmeters before a standstill, it needed a lot of getting used to, to make that somewhat smooth. Otherwise the SBC had the best brakeperformance i ever experienced before using an actual AMG brake.
Not strange for the car. I think I remember journalists complaining about the brake feel even when it was new on the launch.

The criticisms i remember from german magazines were mostly about the missing pedal feedback.
With the SBC, the pedal always feels the same, no matter if the brakes are cold or hot, if the pads worn or new...The system adjusts the pressure and travel so that the endresult in braking will always be the same.(as much as physics allow)
Maybe with a more trackfocussed car like the Black Series drivers want that, in a normal car that's less interesting.

Yah that why the Lexus LFA is one of the rarest and most likely the most expensive car in that entire rally. Good joke bud. Id take that over the 65 black anyday. Theres an '09 SL65 that sold for 405k and a '12 LFA currently listed for 1 million dollars.

I’m praying I can acquire one by next year with some miles as I like to daily drive it. I would love to go for those mountain drives that I didn’t even knew exist in western mass. So beautiful. Hopefully we meet and I can drive with all these super cars.
