I’ve been listening to Ben E. King music since I was a kid back in the 70’s, but when I heard this for the first time just 5 months ago I was pleasantly surprised. HOW did this funky song get past my hearing it after all of these years. What a gem listening to it now. Ben got funky on this song. To see him on Soul Train from back in the day is like icing on the cake, because even though I watched ST about every Saturday I never so this performance of Ben. YT is the place to come to find the classics. 4-sure. 🎼🎼🎼👍🏾

First heard this in 1974 at the sombrero club in Kensington played by the DJ Ronnie archer Morgan who now appears on antique road show 😂. He had the best Taste in music then and the best eye for style now

On this day in 1975 {April 18th} Ben E. King performed "Supernatural Thing" on the Saturday-afternoon syndicated television program, 'Soul Train'...
At the time the song was at position #12 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, two weeks later it would peak at #5 {for 1 week} and it spent fourteen weeks on the Top 100...
    And on March 9th, 1975 it reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart...
Between 1960 and 1980 the North Carolina native had twenty-five records on the Hot Soul Singles chart, five made the Top 10 with two* reaching #1, besides the above "Supernatural Thing" his other #1 record was "Stand By Me" for four weeks in 1961...
Mr. King, born Benjamin Earl Nelson, passed away at the age of 76 on April 30th, 2015...
    May he R.I.P.
*He just missed having a third #1 record when his "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)" peaked at #2 {for 4 weeks} in 1962, and the #1 record for those four weeks was "I Can't Stop Lovin' You" by Ray Charles...
In addition, besides his above three records, his two other Top 10 records were "Amor" {#10 in 1961} and "Do It In The Name of Love" {#4 in 1975}...

Ben E King was inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL of FAME as a member of The DRIFTERS. He led on some of their biggest hits.(THERE GOES MY BABY, I COUNT THE TEARS, THIS MAGIC MOMENT, SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME,DANCE WITH ME, etc.) But after leaving them, he had so many SOLO hits , he deserved a SECOND induction . Aretha covered several of his hits, as did a LOT of other people : SPANISH HARLEM, STAND BY ME ,DON'T PLAY THAT SONG, AMOR AMOR, I WHO HAVE NOTHING, (covered by Tom Jones), and numerous others...
He had over 25 chart hits as a solo artist.

I guess many people did not read "Supernatural Thing" was actually written by TWO people. I loved & lived with Gwen since we were in college before becoming professional musicians. We wrote this - and many songs - together. Mainly, I am happy we made people 'break out in little bitty green spots' because of our music. Thank you!
