Canada sets the bar extremely high for contemporary fine arts, especially music.

This song was her way of dealing with a very disturbed stalker who wrote to her and said things like
“The night is my companion, and solitude my guide
Would I spend forever here and not be satisfied?
And I would be the one
    To hold you down
    Kiss you so hard
    I'll take your breath away
And after, I'd wipe away the tears”. Scary guy.

Saw her in 97 on her Mirrorball tour. She had just released Surfacing, another awesome album following up her Fumbling Towards Ecstasy album from about three years back. Unbelievable concert!

    The meaning of the lyrics:
    Songfacts®:
McLachlan wrote "Possession" from the point of view of an obsessed fan who wrote letters to her over a period of a few years. Following the album's release, the fan, Uwe Vandrei, sued McLachlan for songwriting credit, claiming she used parts of his letters in the lyrics. Vandrei asked for $250,000 and a televised meeting with McLachlan where they would discuss the song. He committed suicide on September 28, 1994 before the case went to trial.
