    Great comparison. Thanks. Just subscribed. Now I see why SM57 is so used both in studio and live. It just works and is quite bang for the buck. It has even bit air to it though being a dynamic mic. But condenser sounds the best because of the air and resolution.

    The Beta 57 + condenser was my favorite! Great balance of tone. I think the sensitivity if the Beta 181 would make it suited for jazz brushes.

      That was my take. More air, though wondering about suppressing ambient sound.

    The Shure SM57A Beta, PGA181, Beta 98AMP sound great on the top of the snare

    56A sounds great for a less bright tone.

      thanks :) have the Shure 57A and KSM 137 but i dig the Shure Beta 181 and Sm57 for a little more crack and high end.
