In this video I demonstrate how to replace the Auxiliary Battery in a ML-Class Mercedes. This is not a complex procedure, so you should have no issues!
What you will see is that I step by step show you how to do this procedure safely. In particular I have attempted to film all of the steps involved without avoiding the trickier elements of this task.
Tools Required:
* 10mm Socket
* 13mm Socket
* Magnet of Long Needle Nose Pointy Pliers
* Sticky Tape
Specifically in this video I am demonstrating this using my 2011 Mercedes ML300.
You too can do it yourself and save the cash!!
Saved me a few hundred dollars thank you man was a lot easier than i thought
Hi Mate, I’m glad it was helpful! To be honest most of what I tackle isn’t that hard it’s just a little bit daunting sometimes which is why I have built up quite a Mercedes playlist now to help everyone out:

@@DrewFixIt exactly I almost went to my mechanic but had no openings so I just went for it. The aux Battery being low wouldn't let me shift into reverse or park so it was a big deal for me to get it fixed
Your videos are always top notch Drew. Made my life much easier once again.
2 quick notes, for me the air vent and battery cover plate were connected with a pin, therefore slightly more tricky when inserting back. The Aux battery leads seemed to be connected on the far side for the battery housing. For the new one I left them on the near side, noting the +/- leads.
Thanks again mate.
Hi Mate, it is possible that one of ours has been changed out and not back the same previously so absolutely thanks for sharing! Cheers Drew
Some ML350's have the aux battery behind the main battery, others have the aux battery behind the rear passenger side wall. My neighbor has a 2011 ML350, can someone tell me exactly where that aux battery is before going through the painful process of checking?
Hi Bill, a 2011 ML350 will be a W164 chassis, so it will be exactly the same as mine with the AUX battery behind the Main Battery. Cheers Drew
@@DrewFixIt Thanks so much!
How did you get the battery to slide out when the terminals are taller than the bracket over the top?
I’ve been struggling for hours to get the fing thing out and it is still in there
Got to push the terminals flat to get it in or out I flipped it
So how do you get the battery spades past the cage? thats the hard part.
The sides looked raised on the cage, are they not?
@@eschrader no. In fact it's hooked in by a tab on one side.
Excellent tks Tpmerc
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers Drew
Thanks Mate!
There is a tool that takes a 9 volt battery that plugs into your cigarette lighter/12V outlet that keeps the Memory ALIVE when changing any battery. This is a must because many problems like a no start can occur 😢
Hi Mate, not required and infact not recommended for Mercedes sensitive electronics! Cheers Drew
The battery should be in the engine bay, anyway. The battery and control model are very close to the ground in that position. Do you know if there is a drain hole in the bottom, which would allow water to enter? I would estimate water only 30 cm's deep could enter perhaps.
Agreed should be in the engine compartment!! I assume there is a drain hole, so no river crossings folks! Cheers Drew
Is the Aux battery rechargable?
Yes mate, however your car will be recharging it via the alternator! Cheers Drew

I CHANGED MY AUX BATT. AND NOW MY RADIO SHOWS ANTI THEFT ACTIVATED. HOW DO I FIX THAT ???
Hi Mate, the most common cause of this is actually a weak battery. This may sound silly, however did you check the voltage of the battery before installing it? Perhaps it was old stock? Cheers Drew
@@DrewFixIt Well I had changed the aux battery then this happened
Replaced main battery last year
@@DrewFixIt THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP I WILL CHECK IT WHEN WIFE GETS HOME 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
@@johnmiller4553 no problems! Please let us know how you get on? Cheers Drew
hey, what is the exact generic auxiliary battery that was used ?
Hi Mate, sorry I can't remember the exact aux Panasonic battery I used and I can't seem to find it on Google for some reason. However, something like this is very good value for money and will serve the purpose well at around $20 drypower.com.au/power/product/25804/vrla-agm-backup-main-power--12v-backup-&-main-power-battery.html Cheers Drew
