I just find the scene of Kida waking up in Milo's arms so much touching and "romantic" than a cliche, mundane kiss. Like, Milo doesn't see her as a beauty to possess, but as a woman who lost her mother, father, and just saved the very last remain of her culture and people by being engulfed inside a deity-like crystal, and he's totally there for her, watching over her with a very pure intention. And Kida's reaction is also so sweet and genuine, like she just found who she can rely on and it's the very guy she has been liking for a while. Also, I don't see why people think Milo's been friend-zoned, when in the last frames you see Kida reaching out for Milo's hand, not the other way round. She knows she loves him, and doesn't shy away from showing it. And not having a kiss after Kida's just woke up makes total sense too, as she realized she encountered her mother (whom she hasn't seen in thousands of years) while being on the crystal, had her bracelet back as a memory of her, and heck! Who wouldn't be overwhelmed by that?! You need a break after such turmoil of feelings, not a kiss! Or that's how I see it.
It's more grounded and wholesome that they hug for the reasons you said, plus I would do the same...... I'm the type that would never kiss someone (even if I liked them) unless I was dating them a long time and we're betrothed. Because I don't wanna be intimate with someone like making out, if you're not sure you're gonna last or break up... that messes with your brain chemistry.
This movie is a classic. The crystal sequences are fantastic and the end sequence where the Guardians of Atlantis (literally titans) rise and come to life to save Atlantis is nothing short of spectacular. It's classic movie moment, and a showstopper. I love this movie. Disney studios assembled a great team of artists to make the vision of the lost city come to life. Mike Mignola, the comic artist behind Hellboy creates a beautiful and stylish aqua blue paradise in Atlantis, Thomas Newman, the composer, delivers a great score, and the writers of the screenplay created a visionary story. From the opening sequence where the Mega-Tsunami sinks Atlantis, to its glorious rise, it all comes together in this imaginative telling of a legend many people believe (including Edgar Cayce) existed. And it's the greatest telling of this legend to date. "Atlantis is calling"....
so when's the crappy-remake destined to happen, to help ruin a gem-of-our-childhood? Also, the second one wasn't that bad, all things considered! most Sequels tend not to do too well.
@DarkArtsMage The second one wasn't actually a movie, It's been confirmed that the second is actually just a couple of episodes of a failed tv show stitched together, a show that, supposedly, never actually aired
some critics back in 2001 thought that since the movie didn't have any singing and dancing then the movie was boring. some of them even thought that since it had a much more mature tone that it was boring
I just realized something; a lot of the reason the crystal doesn't completely consume Kida isn't as a kindness to Milo, it's because if the crystal actually *did* consume Kida to protect the city like it did with a lot of the other royals before her, the royal bloodline ends. The king just died, and it already consumed the queen ages ago. That would put the crystal in a really awkward spot, to put it mildly. So in essence, the crystal hooked Milo up with Kida as a survival strategy.
@@VJK102 exactly, probably Kida's mother stayed bonded with the heart of Atlantis for days while the city was digging to a really low zone down Earth until it fully consumed her and there was not turning back.
It could be as simple as the Blue Water protecting its own. The King had used it as a weapon before, something the Blue Water did *NOT* like - before the queen was taken into it it was an angry red. This time, Kida wasn't using it as a weapon... she was using it to protect the city. Its true purpose. So it released her when the job was done.
@ArchTeryx00 Blue Water? a critic gave the movie a negative review, this is what they said. "Disney pushes into all-talking, no-singing, no-dancing and, in the end, no-fun animated territory" - Todd McCarthy of Variety
Ryan Cunningham critics are nothing if audience is not ready. I saw some are claiming it's full of death scenes))) well in some case they are right this masterpiece isn't Disney at all. But this and Mulan will be my all-time favorites.
The Lion King's plot is based on Hamlet, and it's considered one of the best animated movies ever, not just Disney but in general. It's not the formula or the plots, it's the way they use them and portray them. Something disney needs to remember and not being afraid of creating creative movies like this. In time, just like Atlantis and treasure planet, their recognition will come.
We might all realise she’s the longest ruling Disney queen and far more successful than Elsa in politics, military and personal powers. I mean she stopped a volcano while Elsa stopped a splash and we goes woo ho. And let’s be honest she owns and commands an army of high tech and warriors trained for millennials while Elsa have her throne to her sister who hardly knows anything about management(good luck ppl of Arendell).
This scene always gives me the Chills, regardless of when or where, or in which mood I watch it. It's just awe inspiring. Ever since I saw this movie in one of my Elementary school after-classes, it just etched itself into my mind. Even after roughly 15 years, I remember ever so clearly :) Also, sometimes, I just fire up my PC solely to watch this particular scene :'D
Maybe Kida met her mother in there, she might've been able to bring her out, but I guess she decided to stay. She did get her braclet back after all, maybe they met in there too, together with the other rulers, giving her the confidence she needed to become the new one. Maybe that's the reason she went inside the crystal to begin with. But I could be terribly wrong.
i believe that the idea was that her mother was bound to the crystal too long to return due to the fact that she would have had to kept the barrier up long enough to make sure that atlantis got to its destination safely traveling who knows how far down. kida was not bound as long compared to her mother and was allowed to return.
@@lunerblade13 imagine how heartbreaking that would have been. Kida seeing her mother again after thousands of years but also knowing it would probably be for the last time (and probably finding out her father was dead while being bonded to the crystal). Meanwhile her mother seeing her daughter all grown up after what could possibly be just a mere moment to a sentient crystal, but potentially either suffering the same fate as she did all those years ago, or this being the last time she would ever see her daughter again. Her mother returning the bracelet as maybe a way to say “be not afraid my child, for I will always be with you.”
Kida isn't just a disney princess, she's literally a disney Goddess...since Milo had struggled to explain that it was a part of them just as much they were...we were deeply robbed of more content from this series
I have this theory that may or may not be true: Since the Atlantean Crystal is treated as a deity by its people, Kida's mother was literally a human sacrifice giving her life to save the city. The only difference is, instead of being offered up by the Atlantean people, she was bodily possessed by the energy of the Crystal. During the catastrophic flood, she remained bonded to the Crystal for so long because of the need to protect the city from drowning in the ocean. The Crystal force field was only able to cover the Capitol city of the empire, while all the people outside of it died. Perhaps the reason the Crystal never released Kida's mother is because it was punishing her for failing to save the whole empire? Either that, or it simply took too long to save what it did, so the Crystal totally absorbed her body. This scene shows how the Crystal chooses to release Kida, because she succeeded in saving her people so that no one died the second time catastrophe struck.
kida's mother bonded with the crystal for so long because she had to make sure the shell of the city that was protected survived the descent till it reached its destination. that must have taken a long time for the city to move at such a presumably slow pace.
I don't think Kidas mother had a choice, and with that being said I don't think Kida had a choice either. The crystal only chooses those of royal blood, meaning the crystal is very limited on who will bond with it. The crystal is clearly very intelligent so it will do whatever it needs to do in order to protect the citizens of Atlantis - including possessing the minds of the royal family. Since the city was in such danger from the flooding water it's understandable why her mother would have been lost. Cave ins, flooding, the crystal had to keep its shield up until the surrounding sediment hardened for the city to survive. And in the time of danger when Kida was taken over that was probably less than a couple of hours.
The idea of sacrifice is probably true, and what Adam said about the Crystal being intelligent is true. But the king said it chooses a royal host to protect itself, so not necessarily the city. Downtown Atlantis (hehe) so happened to be where the Crystal resided, so it took that part with it.
sorry, i was reponding to Gloria Hopkins, then to Adam Hamilton, then i referenced what the king from atlantis said. Then to say that the Crystal will protect itself, so it chooses a host, and..yeah

Because if you listen to the King's dying speech he explains: "In times of jeopardy the Crystal would choose a host; one of royal blood, it will accept no other" as the Crystal provided long life and energy for Atlantis it would have pay back as it were by occasionally sacrificing one of its inhabitants. It chose Kida's mother and specifically not Kida, hope that answers your question :)
Shaia I know I’m 2 years late to this comment, but Milo & Kida are officially a couple. Milo wasn’t friend zoned, he & Kida married and he became king of Atlantis. I won’t lie, I didn’t think they had the most amazing chemistry, but they do compliment each other in different ways.🤷🏽♀️
In one of the scenes the King of Atlantis explains that if a person is attached to the crystal for too long they will be lost to it forever, which is what happened to Kida's mother in the beginning of the movie.
This movie really doesn’t get enough appreciation. I’m not into Disney, but this is definitely one of there best considering they went outside their usual trend.
atlantis is one of disney's best movies created.. i watched it a hundred times when i was little. i don't know why the hell it was less successful than the other disney movies. what's wrong with people? :|
Just in case someone didn't notice, the ring she has in her hand after descending is the same ring her mother gave her at the beginning of the movie. A mother's love
I love that, while the Great Crystal did consume Kida’s mother, it didn’t consume the bracelet. Almost as if it knew it would inevitably choose Kida one day and knew that it had unfairly taken her mother from her when she was still so young. So it gave the bracelet back. Almost like an apology.
I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING!! KIDA'S MOTHER (THE QUEEN) HAS BEEN THE CRYSTAL THE ENTIRE TIME! SHE'S BEEN PROTECTING ATLANTIS THIS WHOLE TIME AND I BET ON MY SOUL, THE QUEEN IS STILL ALIVE AND CAN BE FREED FROM THE CRYSTAL'S BOND! That's my fan theory.
Last year scientists saw from satellite images what appears to be circular formations under the wetlands of Coto Donana National Park in southern Spain. They suggest this maybe the lost city of Atlantis which was shown in a segment on National Geographic.

Anyone else find it bizarre that Disney made a movie like this? That Disney has a movie like this in its line up? Treasure Planet. Iron Giant. The story, the voice acting, the color pallet and even the animation just seem so out of place for DISNEY you know? Like No way in hell Disney made something like this.
I know this is an old post, but this was made during a time when companies weren’t afraid to take risks and try new innovative things. Also the founder Walt Disney was the same way if you know the story of his first feature film Snow White so it’s not too out of place.
Disney has no reason not to make Kida a Disney princess. First they said it was because she wasn't the main character, but neither was Princess Jasmine. Then they said that it was because it wasn't a musical, but I didn't hear Merida or anyone else singing in Brave. SO WHY THE HECK ISN'T KIDA A PRINCESS?!
little fun fact. in both this movie and it train wreck of a sequel. kida has never kissed milo making her one of, if not the only disney princess who has never kissed the prince of their movie
“Elsa’s the first disney character to be a queen!” Kida: Bitch Pls, I nearly gave my life to save mine AND became a queen afterwards, what about you? Elsa: Shit.
It just occured to me, could it be that the colossal guardian statues are powered/piloted by the past kings and queens of Atlantis, the ones you see depicted on the flying stone tablets the light is shooting out from, coming back to protect their kingdom? Because that gives me chills
Hidden in dark narrow cave under this land... Ancester power was awakend and become the one with Kida. The atlantis heart stone flew into the sky. That is the right place that they should stay. The most ancient powerful is comeback !
I’ve seen quite a lot of people talking about this film being underrated and that’s true - but part of it is because Disney intentionally sabotaged it, to make their newest 2D films fail and use that as an excuse to stop making them altogether, for the big reason of ‘2D animators were starting to unionize’
Critics brought hate upon this movie when it came out due to its action, theme, and story, but failed to realize that the majority of the "Classic" Disney movies they claimed were superior are basically about either dudes or babes trying to get boned or laid. Don't believe me, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and so on. Did our generation see such in this movie or Treasure Planet? I think not; his movie was awesome, and elders can't say anything about it! Lol CC6336
Kida is not part of the Disney Princess line-up. She is considered to be a special Disney Princess with Eilonwy. All the Disney Princesses became queens if possible. Ariel, Cinderella and Jasmine became queens.
Imagine if we got this world in Kingdom Hearts? Maybe instead of Atlantica, for KH2. You would have this one, which is better. There, Sora & the gang meet Milo & company, as they must save Atlantis from Roark’s insanity, who is getting little help from Organization 13 of controlling Heartless. You would have Kida as a party member, since she kicks more butt than Milo. Which serves as the first visit, while the Crystal serves as a key to open a new path. Second visit involves Roark coming back as a Heartless, with little energy from the Crystal, all done by Saix. Also in my version of Atlantica for KH1. Ariel is a Princess of Heart, with Alice being mistaken as one. That world would follow the movie, with Ariel making a deal with Ursula to become human, but ends up getting taken by Maleficent. Eric would be the party member for the main trio. While the Keyhole would be hidden in a cave that’s connected between land & sea, & can only be revealed by the Trident.
I was just thinking, could this dome stop a nuke? Then we saw the dome withstand against tonnes of lava smash into it. Then it FREEZES the lava back to stone. THEN PROCEEDS TO SHATTER THE ROCK!! Nah, those ancient guardians are no joke.
one thing that came to mind was how different the mod would be if this was a scfi system with the narration of shields powering, deploying, and powering down.
I'm kind of glad Kida isn't an official Disney princess. Imagine that race debate that would've caused. If you cast a Native American to portray her in Disney World, African Americans would say that it's unfair. If you cast an African American, Native Americans would say it's unfair.
Peter Griffin She has Native American qualities to her, especially in the way the rest of her tribe dresses. She also has the light brown skin of traditional Native Americans (both from the north continent and the south), not the stereotypical dark of African. As a child, I saw her as a Native American with white hair, and I know I'm not the only one.
Peter Griffin I don't mean it literally. I mean it as a comparison. Some people say her and her tribe are more African, and others say her and her tribe are more Native American.
Atlantis was traditionally depicted as being in the middle of the atlantic so i see her as native american too, that def. makes more sense than her being african But she was included as a disney princess, even though she is a queen, and fun fact she is the oldest one, the second being elsa, who is 21
For many centuries people thought the city of Troya or Troy was pure fiction until they actually found the city with the help of written manuscripts. Maybe it could and will be the same with Atlantis.

First disney couple that didn't kiss.
Mulan and Shang didn't kiss
+Kiana M they did in the second movie
Second movie doesn't count. Keeping with strict originals
They could not be a couple, Milo would only be friend zone, they don't really match.
God I love this movie
This was awesome movie. Lots adventure and ancient people.
The shear awe made me once cry
I don’t care why it was underrated or what anyone says, I am never ever going to stop loving this movie.
Saving her entire city and culture after knowing her for only one day?
Not bad for a first date, huh
I had a huge crush on her as a lil kid
me too
she is pretty no matter how old you are.....and no-one can say "you're too old for her" *shot by one of the stone-tuna things*
I did and still do have a crush on Kida. (Whistling)
It would be awesome if the Disney Infinity creators decided to make another one like this and Princess Kida.
Kida = Best Disney Princess
kida is a goddess amongst disney princess it's a shame she isn't as well known.
Best movie of my childhood!
The score of the film is so good
Atlantis is one of my favourite childhood movies. I absolutely love how they hug instead, it's a lot more comforting if you know what I mean.
Beautiful.
This is one of my favorite scenes in this movie, the great Guardians of Atlantis march to defend the city
When I was younger I wanted to eat the lava after it had the Atlantian scribbles in it. The sound of the crumbles sounded delicious
Same
atlantis is one of disney's best movies created.. i watched it a hundred times when i was little. i don't know why the hell it was less successful than the other disney movies. what's wrong with people?
0:36 "Simbaaaaaa". That's what I heard.
+Old channel Mufasa's spirit is awaken !
im so curious what those faces really said!
Old channel yeah I heard it to
Szymon Woliński I don't think they said anything it was just sound effects
@@effooo2000 they said teach us
kida was the ultimate princess she cared for her people
this is one of my favorite movies! :D
Disney classic
one of the only disney movies without a princess kissing scene, nope, just a hug.
Just? A good hug is more comforting than a kiss.
Torri Yaramiya she was one of two that didn’t really need a prince. Though I like this kid for being just that and not having a crown.
@@Alusnovalotus They kiss in the sequel, she loves him.
1:00 Kinda random, but I want that music to play when Godzilla rises from the ocean to face King Ghidorah in the next Godzilla movie.
Disney tried to increase popularity at parks it failed though. However this is a great movie like Black Calderon
But the king says that if you remain bonded you are lost. Likely she's been bonded to the crystal so long she can't be freed and became a part of it
@@lovmi2byz91hence the bracelet scene at the end 🤔🤔🤔
Last year scientists saw from satellite images what appears to be circular formations under the wetlands of Coto Donana National Park in southern Spain. They suggest this maybe the lost city of Atlantis which was shown in a segment on National Geographic.
This movies awesome, I'm even trying to learn the Atlantean language.
I love how the creators went out of their way to try and make this a legitimate language.
I don’t know about you but I don’t know how to speak Atlantean. That language is really really really difficult
@@nathanhiga1783 You can learn the language online, there's a lot of stuff missing though so there's only little you can learn, but it's still interesting.
@@joelrc648 I just gotta tell ya that language is so hard
In DC universe there are Blue Lantern corps. These have powers on their own but are pumped out when they work with green lanterns. I think they should glow with atlantis light blue when they are at their max power....
This scene gives me chills.
this kind of reminds of the harry potter movie deathly hallows part two when professor mongonagal and Mrs Weasley and professor slug horn cast that spell that creates a shield over hogwarts
They should have done more movies like this
I know this is an old post, but this was made during a time when companies weren’t afraid to take risks and try new innovative things. Also the founder Walt Disney was the same way if you know the story of his first feature film Snow White so it’s not too out of place.
Incredible movie.
This movie might get remade.
Totally!!! Kida is like "HELL YEAH, i'm awesome" and most of the rest is like "Um... prince? Hello? Is someone goin' to save me or..."
Because in the end she's a queen. Somehow better
Jellyfish 0 Yet they claim Elsa to be the first queen. No hate towards Elsa, but WHY??
@@simpsonsquire1997 because the movie wasn’t popular, as sad as it is to say.
Mulan isn’t even a princess and somehow she’s counted
Because she didn't make enough money, which is all Disney cares about
Great sound!
Watching this makes me wonder what the fuck happened to Disney.
LadyRhin SJW’s happened
Money
little fun fact. in both this movie and it train wreck of a sequel. kida has never kissed milo making her one of, if not the only disney princess who has never kissed the prince of their movie
Frozen?
Adam Hamilton idk never see frozen
also if you read the original comment i said "ONE OF" if not the only
Oh snap. You're right. But I wasn't saying you were wrong. I agree though.
S. Adam Hamilton anna kissed kristoff in the end so frozen is out of the equation
“Elsa’s the first disney character to be a queen!” Kida: Bitch Pls, I nearly gave my life to save mine AND became a queen afterwards, what about you? Elsa: Shit.
I can't believe this movie came out to mixed reviews
It just occured to me, could it be that the colossal guardian statues are powered/piloted by the past kings and queens of Atlantis, the ones you see depicted on the flying stone tablets the light is shooting out from, coming back to protect their kingdom? Because that gives me chills
finally someone understood it.
Lol
CC6336
Such a Pisces movie
How?
my childhood in one video
One of Cree Summer's underrated voice roles.
Legendary.
1:26 HEADSHOT
1:08 I don’t know why I find that turn funny😂
It could, but maybe not on a large scale.
Opening To Atlanta 2001 VHS
Kida is actually not part of the Disney Princess line-up. She is considered a special Disney Princess with Eilonwy from The Black Cauldron.
The sound effect at 2:12 made me want to eat a Jolly Rancher or any hard candy.
Well Disney when will you come with the live action version of this movie?
“(Insert movie) is one of the most underrated disney movies ever” say everyone about every disney movie ever... -.-
one thing that came to mind was how different the mod would be if this was a scfi system with the narration of shields powering, deploying, and powering down.
I'm kind of glad Kida isn't an official Disney princess. Imagine that race debate that would've caused. If you cast a Native American to portray her in Disney World, African Americans would say that it's unfair. If you cast an African American, Native Americans would say it's unfair.
Persephone Hades but kida is not native American. where did u get that logic from?
Peter Griffin She has Native American qualities to her, especially in the way the rest of her tribe dresses. She also has the light brown skin of traditional Native Americans (both from the north continent and the south), not the stereotypical dark of African. As a child, I saw her as a Native American with white hair, and I know I'm not the only one.
Persephone Hades I never saw her as an african but I def never seen her as a native american.
Peter Griffin I don't mean it literally. I mean it as a comparison. Some people say her and her tribe are more African, and others say her and her tribe are more Native American.
Atlantis was traditionally depicted as being in the middle of the atlantic so i see her as native american too, that def. makes more sense than her being african
But she was included as a disney princess, even though she is a queen, and fun fact she is the oldest one, the second being elsa, who is 21
For many centuries people thought the city of Troya or Troy was pure fiction until they actually found the city with the help of written manuscripts. Maybe it could and will be the same with Atlantis.
This came out before Harry Potter 7 right? In the battle at Hogwarts, I always thought the HP book/movie was something I already saw before. Then I remembered this. Does anyone else have the same thought?
