Each time Mark referred to the Smurfs and Smurfette as Papasmurf’s children I suddenly got flashbacks to that one episode from the cartoon where it was Valentine’s day and every Smurf excessively tried to get with Smurfette, INCLUDING Papasmurf who said something like “You could be called Mamasmurf” and EUGH. I remember being 8 and having a nightmare about the movie smurfs and their creepy hyperrealistic eyes. It was about how they kidnapped me in my sleep, skinned me, then ate my body parts for dinner.
Another thing that aggravated me in the first movie is that Grace was seriously trying to make Patrick realize how incredible it is that the Smurfs came to them out of all the people in the world WHILE HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO SAVE HIS JOB! She was basically making it sound like the Smurfs are more important then his job and also the baby! If anyone was being selfish there, it was her!
Me being born in 2006 these films I saw in cinema and were big parts off my childhood and my favourite film as a kid , I’m scared to watch them again incase they disappoint
1:05 Peyo died in 1992. He didn't let it be pitched, the rights got bought by Kerner after sending some letters to Lafig Belgium and Peyo's son and daughter were the ones to give Kerner the licensing after they read the draft of the live action Charlotte's web movie.
The 2011 Smurfs movie introduced me to Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” and for that, it has my approval. Also a mix of nostalgia and Hank Azaria being great as Gargamel.
As a Belgian, the last thing I wanted to see was a Smurf movie about some guy in NY trying to not loose his job or whatever the plot was. I went to see this in the theatre and I've been angry at it ever since, it's truly disgusting
The smurf jokes where originally in French, so it worked a lot better as their is a lot a ways to conjugate verbs (at least compared to English) also idk why they changed it in the movie but originally the rule was every verb was replaced with smurf conjugated to the right form.
My only memories of the Smurfs from my childhood is one classmate playing a Smurfs game so badly it killed her PS1, and smurf CDs, more or less Norway's chipmunk CDs, with popsongs translated if English or just sped up Norwegian songs with the word smurf filling in for words not suitable for children, such as beer.
i remember watching this movie as a kid mostly cuz my parents were like "oh look, a smurfs movie. You'll like that right?". And now...this movie is a tiny bit nostalgic to me but i'm not too proud of that lol but i don't think or don't remember the second movie thank god
Detective Pikachu wasn't bad, I liked it enough to watch it again when it was on On Demand Ken Jeong is in the Tom & Jerry movie, instant classic. Also, T&G has gone live action before and it was nice. The dance clip from the 60s or 70s. Loved that as a kid.
My main problem was how the blue moon being the focus of the movie and later on when it was highlighted from one of the comics but the two things is just completely separate and not the same thing the blue moon in the comic is just an event that has to be celebrated by 100 smurf with dancing or if not it was told that a catrastophe would happen but there's only 99 smurf in the village, so thank god vanity smurf accidentally coppied himself by making his mirror reflection getting struck by lightning meanwhile in this movie the focus was that a great catastrophe would happen in the hand of gargamel and that the blue moon served as a portal to smurf and the modern human world is just the weirdest thing i ever hear does the director even read the comic?..
@@obie-1309yep, storks bring them to a Smurf village during a blue moon. Most of the time nothing happens though. So they are not Papa’s children or anything, he just acts like a father figure to them like any healthy soul would do in his situation
They just translated the comics. Marvel also translated and colourised the AKIRA manga. And Marvel also made some Godzilla comics, with some of them having the Avengers fight Godzilla. I would love to see The Smurfs, Godzilla and AKIRA in the MCU.
I think the only scene i genuinely like from the first one is when they go after Clumsy and there are signs saying like "agony ahead" and so on. I dunno, i just really like that gag. Is there a name for that trope?
Atleast sonic, Scooby-Doo and ted. are good live action/cgi movies. Unlike smurfs which deserves to be remembered on how not to do a live action cgi hybrid movie.

ok, just quick gotta comment, but you probably shouldn't use detective pikachu as a bad example. It's well loved by many and generally thought of to be good. It seems more like it's more something you dislike.

Congrats on 200K Subs Edit: Also I remember seeing both these movies and just looking back at these movies makes me realize how ugly the character designs were.
4:42 Well give that movie credit with the animation, it did something different where instead of Tom and Jerry looking like photorealistic monstrosities, instead they are in non-photorealistic CGI-animation like in Casper 1995 with Casper and the Ghastly Trio and the 2000 Rocky and Bullwinkle movie with Rocky and Bullwinkle arriving in the real world by becoming non-photorealistic CGI-animation while Boris, Natasha and the Fearless Leader are live-action.

You can tell this is Niel Patrick-Harris’ greatest acting feat yet.... pretending to have a wife
I remember that one terrible dance game from the Wii. So bad...
It was called The Smurfs Dance Party and released back on July 19, 2011.

me too. i wish i still did lol
These Smurfs movies are bad and forgettable honestly.
I lost interest in this movie when I realised they swapped out Hefty Smurf for... Scottish Smurf?
scottish smurf was cool when i was younger
gutsy
Hey man I can at least give them that. I really wish he was in the comics (alongside Hefty, not outright replacing him)
Fun Fact: In this video the word:Smurf appears 60 times
Each time Mark referred to the Smurfs and Smurfette as Papasmurf’s children I suddenly got flashbacks to that one episode from the cartoon where it was Valentine’s day and every Smurf excessively tried to get with Smurfette, INCLUDING Papasmurf who said something like “You could be called Mamasmurf” and EUGH. And in the movie Papasmurf’s clearly depicted as a father figure of the other Smurfs including Smurfette so EUGH. What even was that episode DANG.
😂😂😂😂

How that kid in this film went and did Room just a year later's absolutely unbelievable

I remember being 8 and having a nightmare about the movie smurfs and their creepy hyperrealistic eyes.
It was about how they kidnapped me in my sleep, skinned me, then ate my body parts for dinner.
What the...
At 8?
I can’t believe gargamel created Homestuck trolls
Why not have the human character go to the smurf world... And have Gargamel try to track down their world
Another thing that aggravated me in the first movie is that Grace was seriously trying to make Patrick realize how incredible it is that the Smurfs came to them out of all the people in the world WHILE HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO SAVE HIS JOB!
10:56 that “please back away from the tv.” Gave me such an overwhelming sense of dread.
1:05 Peyo died in 1992. He didn't let it be pitched, the rights got bought by Kerner after sending some letters to Lafig Belgium and Peyo's son and daughter were the ones to give Kerner the licensing after they read the draft of the live action Charlotte's web movie.
I remember hating those trailers where everything turns blue. I always HATED THEM.
I was 16 when I saw Smurfs 1 in the theatre, and from that very moment to this day it was the worst movie I'd ever seen in a theatre.
My only memories of the Smurfs from my childhood is one classmate playing a Smurfs game so badly it killed her PS1, and smurf CDs, more or less Norway's chipmunk CDs, with popsongs translated if English or just sped up Norwegian songs with the word smurf filling in for words not suitable for children, such as beer.
how do you play a game so badly it breaks the console?
i remember watching this movie as a kid mostly cuz my parents were like "oh look, a smurfs movie. You'll like that right?". And now...this movie is a tiny bit nostalgic to me but i'm not too proud of that lol but i don't think or don't remember the second movie thank god
Detective Pikachu wasn't bad, I liked it enough to watch it again when it was on On Demand
Ken Jeong is in the Tom & Jerry movie, instant classic.
Also, T&G has gone live action before and it was nice. The dance clip from the 60s or 70s. Loved that as a kid.
40s.
14:44 I knew I wasn’t the only one who thought smurfette sounded whiny and like she could cry any second.
Aren't baby Smurfs usually delivered under blue moons as well? I think that's also something that happens too.
@@obie-1309yep, storks bring them to a Smurf village during a blue moon. Most of the time nothing happens though. So they are not Papa’s children or anything, he just acts like a father figure to them like any healthy soul would do in his situation
And I think at least one person on the team has read the comics because they know that Smurfette is an artificial being created by Gargamel
I've never seen LSMark and SplashDash in the same room
@Gold Source They should
Those two live action movies were One Big Smurfing duds.
Not gonna lie, the second movie kind of racist, acts like having a different skin tone compared to the rest is bad. WTF Sony?.

0:47 The comic crearly says "Marvel Comics"
Imagine this smurfs in the MCU.
Please do a video based off Fairly Oddparents: School's Out The Musical
Atleast sonic, Scooby-Doo and ted. are good live action/cgi movies. Unlike smurfs which deserves to be remembered on how not to do a live action cgi hybrid movie.
What about Yogi bear?
Ted should not be compared cause it’s nothing like these movies
@@difference3maker36 i didn't say adaptations only, i said any live action cgi hybrid movie.
Detective Pikachu is also better than both Smurf movies
Grouchy Smurf is my favorite George Lopez role along with Ernesto Estrella from The Casagrandes.
My favorite part of the smurfs is when papa smurf said "it's smurfin' time" and smurfed all over the place

ok, just quick gotta comment, but you probably shouldn't use detective pikachu as a bad example. It's well loved by many and generally thought of to be good. It seems more like it's more something you dislike.
Detective Pikachu wasn't very good at all.
Nope
"Well loved by many" doesn't equate to being good, but I think it was enjoyable
I'm A little older than you and actually liked the animation design but was mature enough to know that Hollywood was not gonna put any effort at all on the story. Alvin had already taught me a lesson
The only good children’s story live action movie is Paddington 1 and 2.

Who framed Rodger rabbit is also an amazing example of cartoon character living naturally among humans
Congrats on 200K Subs
Edit: Also I remember seeing both these movies and just looking back at these movies makes me realize how ugly the character designs were.
Sony was able to make a masterpiece like Spider-verse but then also make this. I can’t even...
I had completely forgotten that Neil Patrick Harris was the "protagonist" of this movie. When a movie wastes Neil Patrick Harris you KNOW it's bad.
The Smurf’s just kinda sucks in general. It’s a bad sign when the biggest distinguisher in a group is that one is a female, and one has a red hat.
Also one with a heart tattoo and one with glasses
Tbh the smurfs were never meant to be more than a Saturday morning cartoon you'll watch when you're a 3 year old
