I ordered the dual wind and I'm waiting super impatiently for that neat "issue" box to end up in my mailbox. I do the National Guard thing and we were cleaning out our cold storage one weekend. I found one of these in an old desk and was so tempted to take it. For all I know the thing is laying in a landfill. It's bothered me for years that I didn't just steal it, so I had to buy my own lol.
Awesome little watch, fills so many voids that many watch enthusiasts don't have covered in their collection. I think everyone needs at least one watch that is going to be set to the correct time in your box and also I think everyone needs a watch that you will forget is on your wrist - Nylon Strap & 35g you will 100% forget it's even on your wrist at least once a day :) Great vid as always
Thanks for watching! Its a fun and interesting little beast for sure. Im starting to feel like a watch collection could be dominated by quartz, then the special pieces are auto!
I have recently bought a Bertucci which is very similar, no ETA quartz so it doesn't hit all the markers but £70. Can't get enough field watches atm. Keep 'em coming.
@@watchmewithwatchesI got my Bertucci from Drop, I think a new one has popped up on there today actually but a $120 metal version mine is the resin $55 + duty. They do sell them on Amazon, tempted to get a more expensive one but am erring towards a Hamilton Khaki field or Pioneer Pilot at that price. Looking forward to the field watch extravaganza.
Never seen one of these really like em... Reminds me of the Boldr Field pieces in looks.. Very legible Dial which u need for a field piece..Great review...
Great video , l have few quartz CWC watches and some other military ones and my oldest quartz is original issue 1980 and still working some 41 years later ! Ive ordered the same watch in your video so looking forward to receiving it and enjoying the experience you've shared with us thanks !
I really like the small simple size and features of the watch. I have recently purchased a couple of them. The quartz version of course, you can even find them on eBay cheaper.
@@watchmewithwatches I picked up a 38mm smokejumper and a 38mm atlas with a black dial. They are a cheaper and more readily accessible alternative to the Citizen Ray Mears Promaster I want.
I’d have it without question. That’s a proper piece of equipment. A Canadian Forces Military base is part of my town with many local support businesses. A lot respect for this 🇨🇦 manufacturer.
I picked up a hardly used Stocker and Yale Sandy 590 from the late 80s/early 90s and the Tritium is still going. The orange 12 marker is s little hard to see, but I'm well happy for a tenner.
Does it has a ghost date function? The date version has the same ETA F06 movement, so I am wondering it the non-,date watch is having this ghost date for real or not
I think that little military/field watch looks really bad ass. Now, as you know from our recent conversation, I have quite tiny wrists. This would fit me better than many others obviously. Still, you have quite bigger wrists than me, and it looks great IMO. Actually, when I think about it, this is one of the few modern watches I personally could wear with a nato in the classic way without it looking too bulky on both sides on my wrist. That's always my gripe with classic nato straps (and why I prefer single straps like provided here). I really like that design. Many field/military watches doesn't do much for me, since I often think they look somewhat bland. But not this one IMO, even though the design is quite tool like. To be honest 30 m wr might feel more like a dress watch than a field watch IMO, and 15.5 mm is an odd size for straps. Love that quick change battery "hatchet", reminding of some vintage digital watches. A great feature more quartz watches should have today. I don't mind quartz generally, I have a few myself. My only hang ups are if the ticking sound is really loud (a few of them do), and that usual seconds hand missing the indicies (which sadly all of mine do, even my vintage Certina). This one doesn't! So wonderful to behold lol! Anyway, rants over! Cool watch which I definitely wouldn't mind, and looking forward for more of your reviews.
Its clever how a small watch, when designed well works so well for many wrist sizes (to a limit of course!) If you have smaller wrists, this would be perfect for you and wont let you down! If you have a bigger budget, the Auto with Tritium could cover a few bases in a collection.
@@watchmewithwatches Have owned both the Boldr Venture and Expedition , very well built watches , stock straps weren't the best though , you're working on getting the new field matic ? , look's nice , hope you get one and look forward to your thoughts :) take care mate have a great weekend
Do like field/military watches. This ones a little small for me. I bought a CWC G10 of ebay and I love it 36.5mm, lug width 20mm. Really good review though as always. 👍
No disappointment. But wish you would’ve given more explanation on the classes and the different grades of this watch. Also, it would be really nice if the manufacture would include atomic radio timekeeping.
Ok not having been in the military but seeing so many 'military watches' out there ... seiko Captain Willard, G-shock, Marathon etc. I wonder whether you are issued a watch or have a choice from a range available at the PX? If from the PX do you have to purchase it? If issued what happens to all the old watches when (I assume) you have to return it when your service is up or you are issued a new watch?
Back in the 70s and 80s, and creeping into the 90s I know the British Army had CWC (briefly pulsar) watches issued (they would end up returning if not "lost") Nowadays soldiers wear what they want within reason.
Bought the exact same one without the US GOVERMENT marking 2 weeks ago, unfortunately the second hand doesn't hit for 20% of the face, however, this little thing has not been off my wrist since she arrived, don't know what it is, I love her :)
Sure, well to help more I measured wrist sizes I think this length would work for. 7.5 inch max down to 5 1/4 inch! They sell an (expensive) 11 and 1/4 inch upgraded length strap for the bigger wristed people.
9 years ago these cost $39 directly from the GSA ., but they had acrylic crystal. The mechanical manual wind version was all Swiss with tritium for $50 . But the public could not buy them from any vendors yet.
Check out Bertuchi watches, they use the same ballistic reinforced nylon cases. They have some awesome field watches for a good deal less. Very similar spec wise however in fairness you are paying for the QC and rigorous testing with the Marthon. 👍
I get it.. but I'm a party pooper I still prefer a Timex "Expedition" t40011 cheap as chips, WR50 and with indiglo backlight. ( if you still can get one congratulations 👍😎 ) great vid btw
It's weird, it may be literally 3atm resistant, which in realistic terms is plenty for a field watch. We are used to 3atm being "splash resistant" on a dress watch. This is actually different on this watch.
A watch with only 30m water resistance is not a durable field watch. I couldnt wear this on a daily basis without worrying about water intrusion. I went with the much cheaper Loris field watch instead.
I know what you mean, but the specifics for the watch to pass offer more valuable data than a confusing and often incorrect 30m wr rating may suggest. The mil spec requirements are more in keeping with a 100m watch!
There’s absolutely no way on this earth that any military would issue this watch, for £180, when a Casio F91w does the same and more for a fraction of the cost. Marathon are trading on their historic military links, like CWC, but they’re nothing like a military watch these days. Way too expensive for what they are.
Mil spec watch with lume? First, I can't believe it will last 8h, even when flashed with a torch. Second, no one wants to charge it with a torch, just have the light when needed. In winter sun is not strong enough about 1700 or even earlier, my divers stop becoming readable as early as 22-2300. Besides, why would a soldier want his/her watch to glow in the dark all the time? Small g-shocks: press a button and light is on for a second, that's enough. When off duty, you can set them to light up whenever you move your hand towards your face, then switch it off when back on duty. I don't get it, is the goal here to wear a watch on the inside of your wrist and be readable while aiming a rifle? If that's the case, tritium seems like a way to go (not bright enough to give up your position but readable all the time).
I totally agree about Tritium. I have never had a Tritium watch before, and if I was willing to stretch past my £200 budget, the Tritium model would have been the one I went for. The Maraglow still for fills the requirements set by the document, but in reality your point about constant illumination (not too bright) when you need it is a fantastic point. You may have just cost me another wedge of cash! lol
My favorite watch sizes are 34, 35, 36 and 39 (double red vintage Steinhart I've been eyeing for months). I wish dive watches would go back to 39 cases
Don't know what it is but I really love their refined simple packaging! Makes it feel like you're being issued it!
