Warren I know exactly when this painting was done. No one is saying it was done at the time when Moors ruled Europe. And of course I wouldn’t expect anything more from people like you who reduce black people to the status of “slaves” whenever they don’t fit into your distorted narrative of what Africans are supposed to be. Moors were black Africans but obviously not exclusively black. There were some dynasties that were predominantly black then others. There’s several paintings from the time which depicted Moors as such (black). One was the famous painting of the 11th century showing black Moors playing chess. Shakespeare in his description of the Moor Othello clearly describes a black man. So please stop retrospectively projecting your biased perception of what Africans are supposed to be. And I gotta say man, that’s some wild imagination. You were able to deduce from a single painting: A eunuch, A harem guard, A Slave. Smh. That’s your bias talking right there kid.
Warren you proved my point that Moore’s were in fact not exclusively Arab. There were black Moors predominantly in the first two dynasties if I’m not mistaken and the other dynasties were predominantly Arab btw not white as you described them.
Lol my African American friends... you have an issue with your history... The Omeyads, the Almoravids, the Almohads, the Marinids, the Saidis have nothing to do with black Africans. They were Arab/berbers dynasties from Morocco. I think you guys should look closer to Ghana or Nigeria to find your roots. Cause Morocco ? thats a big stretch... As for orientalist paintings they dont reflect the truth, most of the characters did not exist they just came out of the mind of white bourgeois who had never been to north africa: « The Middle East depicted in the Orientalist paintings of the 19th Century was simultaneously real and not real: viewers knew that the place existed, somewhere; and yet every element of it was fantastical, as if belonging to a different world entirely. » www.mayfairgallery.com/blog/orientalist-paintings-19th-century-fantasies-east

When reading these accounts it is clear that these writers had no problem in referencing these Spanish invaders and occupiers as Black, even to go as far as using adjectives to add to the racial clarification, such as “Black as pitch” or “pan.” In fact, quite on the contrary, the writers of the epic poem The Song of Roland and for Alfonso X seem to relish the opportunity to highlight the racial differences and thereby distant themselves from the rampaging “Blacker than the Blackest ink” Moorish hordes.”
As for orientalist paintings they dont reflect the truth, most of the characters did not exist they just came out of the mind of white bourgeois who had never been to north africa:
« The Middle East depicted in the Orientalist paintings of the 19th Century was simultaneously real and not real: viewers knew that the place existed, somewhere; and yet every element of it was fantastical, as if belonging to a different world entirely. »

“In describing the Moorish invasion of Spain, the thirteenth century Spanish king of Castile Alfonso X (also known as “The Wise”) had this to say:
“All the Moorish soldiers were dressed with silk and black wool that had been forcibly acquired...Their Black faces were like pitch and the most handsome of them was like (Black as) a cooking pan.”
One of the Caucasian Visigoth’s described them like this.
