      I said that Trump being re-elected is utterly useless in the long term if the local establishment isn't secured as well. Trump alone is not enough to turn the pendulum, especially since he's an easy target for slander. Having senators and governors in red, maybe in purple, states do the same thing except with the media immunity of a strong local base? That's a winning strategy.
      The Reps don't need *a* victory, they need a movement. Ron DeSantis is a good start, Rand Paul is doing good, and Abbot is still an iffy, but the right needs a lot more people to follow in what Trump started.

      @IggyTthunders Год назад +5

      Ssslightly more complicated than that, because:
      A)Republicans didn't want them in the Great White North, Jim Crow laws were a Northern institution as far back as 1830; B)the Republican Party also wanted the territories *also* to be monochromatic, and they were not shy about saying so, referring to their Party as "the Party of the White Man" and stating explicitly they wanted the territories for the white race exclusively, so where was ol' Ben gonnuh go once he got his freedom papers? To 1860's Illinois? Where he couldn't immigrate, couldn't intermarry, couldn't hold office, couldn't vote, and had no basic property rights against theft because he couldn't even testify against whites-- even if he was himself *part* white --in court? All while still paying taxes? How would that be, practically speaking, any better, being a slave in all but name? It's a false, and politically-motivated dichotomy to say one side was for slavery and one wasn't in the 1850's, because slavery with rights (ref. Josephine vs. Virginia) versus freedom with *no* rights, just privileges, render the terms "freedom" and "slavery" as mere abstractions.

      @@IggyTthunders Let's also not miss the point that the South was entirely integrated before the Civil War and still is to this day despite the fact that any place that is/was a Northern state was highly segregated and still is. There were no "China Towns" in the South and there still aren't. But look to any liberal city and you'll see segregation all over the damn place.
      That the primary reason for the Civil War on the North's behalf wasn't for freeing the slaves but to destabilize the South and control those plantations for their own benefit. Because, in case people did forget, the South was paying upwards of 90% of the nations taxes while also producing 80+% of the worlds cotton and before the war happened the South was in the process of transitioning to wage labor while the North was still using slave labor and indentured servitude. The North's rhetoric of "free the slaves" was entirely so they could destabilize the South with propaganda and then they would essentially steal them from the South, claim they were free, then force them to work for the North's war effort.

      If he had made a formal proposal to make Martha's Vineyard take refugees and they would have declined for bad reasons THAT would have been a gotcha moment.
      Also I don't think it's feasible because if Martha's vineyard is a relatively rich neighborhood so how would immigrants pay their bills after they get them payed by the state (which you probably wouldn't want either). So you are basically just asking rich dems to waste money for an inefficient charity so you can't call them hypocrits.
