In my opinion, the aggressive posturing at Taiwan is the thing that I think shows how fragile China really is.
If they actually go for Taiwan, it'd piss off everyone globally, INCLUDING the morally bankrupt powers that be, since their trade routes would be disrupted.
They'd need to either be so strong that they can afford to make an enemy of all the world's nations or so desperate that they would risk doing so as their only option.
I do think that we're LONG overdue to bring manufacturing of consoomer goods back Stateside and the absolute clusterfuck that was the supply chain disruption in Commiefornia might wake some people up about that. I say we sanction the shit out of countries using slave labor and make it unprofitable, to bring jobs back to America.

Plus China barely has a navy, so how are they even supposed to conquer an island nation? I mean, islands are hard to take as it is, just look at Britain. Or any random island in the Pacific theater. Invading an island is an absolute logistical nightmare, and hugely costly in lives if the island has a sizeable population. A Chinese-Taiwan war would be a worse quagmire than the Afghanistan or Vietnam wars were for the US or USSR. And it only takes one decent PotUS administration being elected, to effectively end that war in hours.

China is devoted to making itself a Great Power. You gotta understand, for literally thousands of years China has been the absolute and unquestioned Supreme civilization in its neighborhood. Even when they were fragmented warlords fighting each other, China was still China. Whenever foreigners conquered them, the foreigners adopted large amounts of Chinese culture. Chinese civilization was always assumed to be the best. The 19th century was one long string of humiliation and trauma, with multiple wars lost to foreign barbarians, opioid epidemics, the bloodiest civil war in all of history, and above all the feeling that Western civilization (with its ingenuity and industriousness) was absolutely thrashing them in every metric. Their biggest concern is to prove their superiority, to avenge the "Century of Humiliation" by eclipsing every other power. I doubt they will succeed at this, as Razor pointed out. But you must understand what their real motives are before you can hope to deal with them.

I know people think all the Chinese are brain-washed but my understanding is that a lot of the average folk are sick of the central govt's BS and NOT seeing the benefits of this "economic expansion."
The money's mostly going to the CCP elite and these corrupt loons have wasted so much of it on shit (cities no one will ever line in because they're too expensive, multitudes of FAILED military projects) that will never pay back. Sound familiar to people in the West?!? As bad as our leaders are -- face it, there isn't a SINGLE GOVT on the F-ing planet now that I would call fantastic and most of the leadership is corrupt and mediocre recipients of nepotism!! --, there are still govts that are orders of magnitude worse than most in the West AND even more out of touch with their population's concerns. The pressure is building and I think it's only a matter of time before there's a military coup or civil war in one of these authoritarian countries.

On his infamous train ride through the countryside, Mao literally had farmers uproot all the rice from one field, race ahead of the train to the next field, and then replant the rice in order to give the appearance socialism was working and the country had produced plenty of rice for everyone. 2. Water security and purity issues due to pollution and desert encroachment
    3. Energy insecurity
    4. Food insecurity (China imports most of its food)
    5. Infrastructure degradation (wobbling sky scrappers, broken dams, exploding sewers, poor flood drainage systems etc)
    6. Flawed economic management
    7. Multiple border disputes
    8. Unsustainable debt (their debt-GDP ratio is worse than America's)

The gender imbalance one is all kinds of hilarious because it's worse than just a simple gender imbalance. Sure, a one-child policy in a patriarchal culture equaled scary high amounts of female infanticide. So those that kept their infant daughters because they had an 'in' with the state and so got permission to have more than one child, have daughters born into a far higher station than the vast majority of Chinese men. Meaning they're really not likely to marry below said station. And this is even worse than it sounds, because not only is the gender imbalance a hilarious division along class lines, it's also a hilarious division along geographical lines. When the industrialists started the mass relocations of rural farm workers to work factories in the cities, they primarily took the women. Why? Because you can stuff six chicks into a 300sqft apartment. You do that with six dudes and there'd be a severed head in the fridge by the end of the week. So those women born into power influence and of course money working as corporate executives/party apparatchiks aren't gonna move out to a rice farm just to do their patriotic duty for the state if they have anything approaching freedom of choice in the matter.
And these divides existed while one child was still a Thing. Just because the state tossed out the limit doesn't mean that every Chinese citizen was going to go out and do their patriotic duty. Most of them don't even want to have kids because raising children is a massive bitch even if one parent eschews the necessary second income to become a homemaker. But even if we were to go out on a massive limb and assume that they could churn out another generation equaling the one that gave them their very brief consumption-led boom of the early 2010s, it'd still take 25 years (and nine months) to grow all those 25-year-olds, so any potential benefits from rescinding the birth controls won't be realized until the mid-2040s regardless.
The Chinese don't have that kind of time.

I was born in 1979 and for my entire life people have been telling me how the future belongs to China, and yet the entire contemporary Chinese civilization faces immediate existential threat; from wild impossible boughts a of extreme weather, to perpetual infrastructure collapse, to rampant inconceivable social corruption, consistent political instability and unrest, and with a growing list of foreign powers allying against them, China will be lucky to remain as powerful as it presently is throughout this decade. Most people living and working in China are not Chi-Com monsters, they are fully westernized people that wear jeans and love video games and know who Thanos is. They, like us, are crushed under an oppressive unchanging centralized regime that I hope and pray we both shrug off like Atlas. Thanks Razor! Fun fact: I'm on a small Discord server with a strict no-politics rule. We can chat about most anything, but if it strays into modern politics it gets the smack. Except for the CCP. It is fully allowed, nay encouraged to dunk on the CCP at any opportunity, and we've discussed many of these points. You covered most of the big ones, but you could also add on 1) A food crisis brought on by aridification thanks to treating their country like an open sewer for years, 2) They are surrounded by countries/ethnicities that hate them, and 3) Municipal/local governments have to pass their taxes on up to the central government for redistribution as the powers-that-be see fit. That means their remaining source of income is selling land/property, and to do it as quickly as possible leads to the 'ghost cities' of questionable quality.
Oh, and just today (12/3/2021) the Chinese property giant Evergrande defaulted on another big chunk of debt AND the ride-share company Didi was forced to delist from the NYSE due to pressure from CCP regulators. Guess in the case of the latter they figured they couldn't cook the books enough.
