    English Finn Russell but England doesn't risk with ballers 🔥

    • @EvilFinian
      @EvilFinian Год назад +19

      Neither seemingly does Scotland as shown with how many times he has been dropped. That said I believe DC had a rough go of it for England like a lot of players whose face didn't fit for various reasons but he also, like Finn, has created his own issues and drama. As a fan of rugby in general I would have loved to seen more of him in an England shirt but the margins at the very top are so fine and there is so much on the line for coaches in every match that it is not easy to allow a maverick to win or lose a game that can cost you your job. Just glad we got to see such a player perform in our game at all, so we should celebrate what he has brought rather than what might have been. So thanks Andrew Forde for these wonderful memories!

      @@jonnybaynham1689 I can get behind Spencer and Cooper point, agreed in general Carter was more steady but he also was capable of the level with flair in question, the try where he dropped a grubber to himself millimetres from the touch line vs B&I lions or the banana kick conversion are the first two examples off the top of my head. • @theofarmmanager267
    @theofarmmanager267 Год назад +2

    I certainly agree that his talent was supreme. Almost inevitably, he had weaknesses in defence but he could do things that few other English fly halves can/could. So why did successive, highly professional, supremely successful England coaches just not pick him? Off field? Well, Dallaglio (cocaine supplying) was more “damaging”, particularly as he was England captain at the time. Defence frailties? Were they deemed to be just too much at international level, if not club level? Is the England international game built so much around the power and kicking game that skills at fly half are deemed too much of a risk?
    Is England doing the same with Marcus Smith?
    I genuinely don’t know the answers. I desperately want consistent success for England. I put that long term success higher than playing in a particular style. I have to have faith in coaches such as the current England set up to understand what will succeed; they might just be (possibly only) better rugby coaches than I was?

  • @mrmastersa
    @mrmastersa Год назад

    He must be a complete mare to work with since he's been either overlooked by England coaches or dropped by clubs. On the field though he is the best English 10 by a country mile. Comparisons to Finn Russel are obvious because as he has an instinct for opening defences and smart enough to look/plan what he will do with the ball before he gets it, something Farrell has never done and Marcus Smith is only a little better at. Im a Sarries man and over the years have seen him play for different clubs which have often been second best in the pack to Saracens but he's managed still to threat with crap ball and a daring that obviously goes against the grain with England selectors. I think Eddie Jones only ever selected him on the bench and brought him on as a full back replacement. with Farrell still on the park... like going on the pull with the elephant man as your mate

      Actually I’ve just re-watched it and I hadn’t appreciated what a good job the Wasps full back did. Phenomenal positioning and biding his time forcing the ball carrier to make a decision. He’s actually in a good position all the time either to take ball carrier or supporter, and the back-pedalling buys time for the other scrambling defenders. Ended up forcing him to hang on to the ball for too long. Still, cracking tackle.
