Well this town is right outside of New Orleans, need I say more... What's strange is that most of these plants are in Laplace, the next town over, but you don't hear about this kinda stuff happening in Laplace. This whole southeast side of Louisiana is nothing but poverty and crime. Born and raised here and don't know why I've never left😕
The fact she's still capable of considering the economic well-being of those who rely on the plant for employment is admirable and something I don't think the majority of people could do. But this underlines the point, that when a woman threatened by disease has a greater capacity to care for the well-being of others than those protected from it, there's a problem with the moral fabric of society that extends far beyond corporate profiteering.
Just the opening scene with the old lady was eye opening. Cancer, cancer, cancer! Everyone has cancer! The worst part is that I'm from South Jersey, I can say the similar things about my home town area.
Dupont pass the baton to Denka and it continues the deadly massacre. These people hide behind words. Empty words. And that black representative of the county should be completely ashamed of himself. These companies have him in their pocket. The fact that they say we've provided you jobs that poison you at the same time is evil.
@@danniaddams5502 lol want to surgar coat or be realistic its been a corporation for that long and yall really think anything is going to change....as long as the profits start coming in they dont care
Since my first learning about this issue I did NOT BUY the boots I "wanted", because they were NEOPREME". Now U do the same thing. " STOP BUYING NEOPREME GOODS" .
thank you for doing this. These dear people MUST be heard. ANd Denka MUST do right, along with government enforcement. Here in Riverbend, New Orleans, we are bathed in sulfur dioxide from the oil processing plant on the other side of the river. Something MUST be done to put people BEFORE profits.
So they want to put something dangerous into the air and don't care? Wonder how they would feel if the residents of Reserve also started putting something dangerous into the air...
I grew up here. My home town . My mom died of cancer. My uncle died of cancer. My aunt died of cancer. Reserve and Garyville area. I remember growing up and always hearing neighbors here or there had cancer .
I wish I learned about this subject in school. Thank you for informing me. Another great youtube video to watch on this subject is 'Words Have Power' on Planet Classroom Network. This video tells the story of a young girl fighting and speaking for Connecticut to shut down their last coal-powered plant.
It's a lot harder to prove association than one would think, anecdotes like shown here are barely evidence. There should be better science, the group is well defined and confounding factors like higher cigarette smoking rates, socioeconomic factors, alcohol consumption and obesity can be estimated and controlled for. Show us that science. Cutting the research funds for the EPA (and the patchwork of health care funding) doesn't make much sense.
So the plan is to run a 30 year longitudinal study? At the end, if we wind up concluding that the plant was indeed at fault, what do we say to the dead subjects of our scientific study?
Yeah sure, continue to sleep. Most probably you're one of those persons who are making profit over people deaths so it looks fine to you, but won't last long, one day you'll have their same problems, will be nice to die from cancer or to watche your children suffering from that? mhh I don't think so
Interesting how these things don’t ever seem to happen in affluent communities.
because affluent communities can fight back

sad on how humans can be so cruel to humans.
“...we will continue to gather data...” translation: we will do nothing.
^^This guy speaks politician.
😥 Sad. Cancer is a horrible agonizing way to die. More so knowing that it could be prevented and knowing the cause and being ignored. Sad.

Adrian Davis in in the northern part. Where in south jersey is that a problem?
Thank you Guardian staff for this important work. It matters. ✊✊✊

Thank you for being more attention to the pollution problem in Louisiana
astonishing that this is happening in 2019 😡
Sad and sick. Devils in power don’t care about regular people especially when they get kickbacks from these businesses,
Who's eating that organic beef in the back ground??? 4:46

They're never going to do anythimg to make it safer
Thank you for your optimism. It is very needed in these trying times.

Might want to stop using your vehicle, driving on bridges and using electricity.... also.
If the residents are getting sick think about what’s its doing to their employees! I’m surprised they can get people to work there?
Its all about money.
I’ve been living in reserve my whole life and I’m healthy asf and I stay in Dutch bayou that’s right next to a plant
