- What are our plans for our 2024 adventures? It's hard to believe that we have been living onboard narrowboat One Day More for almost 3 years now. Join us as we cruise our narrowboat from Crick towards Braunston on the Grand Union Canal and we will share our future plans with you!
Hello! If you are new here we are Caroline and Pete, and in 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat, One Day More, with our West Highland Terriers! Join us in our day to day life as we continuously cruise the canals and rivers of the UK. All of the ups, and the downs and everything in between!
If you would like to support our channel you can buy us a coffee or the westies some treats here www.buymeacoffee.com/onedaymoreN. All donations are put back into our channel, we are currently saving up for new audio equipment.

It was so fun watching Poppy's little face expressing concentration and intention that Pete got that wending done successfully. I also love seeing how devoted they are to Pete, not wanting to leave his side. I can't wait to tag along on your journeys this year. Be well. Leigh
Simply love watching your vlogs! So relaxing, and your photography and choice of music is just beautiful. Looking forward to following you along your travels!
That’s so lovely to hear, and exactly the mood I always want to create. Choosing just the right music is one of my favourite parts of the editing process and it’s lovely to hear you appreciate it 😊
What a lovely vlog! I’m just back from a busy conference and taking a day off to catch up before I go back to work. Your great video, stories, and music are perfect for relaxing. Take care and go safely! Pets to the puppies.
That’s lovely to hear Ann! When we were researching this new life 3 years ago we would binge watch narrowboat vlogs and relax with a cup of tea or coffee watching the scenery go by, and now here we are doing it for real! 😊
Fantastic video 😊 loved the still photos, the funky music during the 90 point turn, the dogs, the updates and the beautiful scenery. Can’t wait to see your adventures unfold. stay safe 😊
Thanks so much Dave! I definitely have fun choosing the music to go with the footage. Sometimes Pete hears me playing different music clips while I’m editing and says ‘you’re not making me look stupid are you’ 😂. Glad we are able to take you along on our travels by the power of RUclips 😊
Nice to see you with a tiller in your hand Caroline 😮. Have fun when you meet up with your friends 😉
I’ve been forcing myself to take the tiller more often, it’s the only way I’ll get over that fear! I told Pete I was going to take the boat up Foxton Locks when we left Debdale after blacking. His face was a picture 😂. I have no doubt we will have a wonderful time with our friends ❤️😘
Sunday lunch ….great idea . That’s what’s wrong with society , not enough people sit down for a proper Sunday lunch 😊
You’re so right! Coming together round the dinner table is one of the easiest ways of staying connected as a family. We had some of the best conversations over dinner with our children growing up 😊
Love your vlogs… video footage, informative descriptions and insights into life on a narrowboat!
Especially love Alex’s song- fits your adventure perfectly
🙂 🙂
Our pleasure! It’s lovely to hear that you’re enjoying the vlogs. Alex has written some of the music that I use (the opening few notes is part of a longer piece he wrote) and some other solo guitar pieces. The song we use at the end is actually not one of Alex’s though. It’s Time On Our Side by Ten Towers. You can hear the full version on RUclips here ruclips.net/video/0MqqeXvnk78/видео.htmlsi=IGP1J1-OJUx0F0KT 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Oh thanks for clarifying that.. sorry I mixed that up🙂
But still love it all!
That explains why I couldn’t find him singing it! I did get to enjoy his videos though!
Thanks for the link!
@@crochetgramYou can see a little more of Alex’s performances in the videos section of his website here if you’d like 😊 www.alexjrudd.com
It is a wonderful video as you and your crew are great. That Poppy is a most faithful little dog. Thank you for sharing your adventures. Caroline you and Pete are wonderful to have made all the videos you have. Take care and be safe.
Thank you so much Izora! You’ve got the measure of Poppy just right, she is a faithful little dog for sure but definitely has a stubborn streak when she wants to do her own thing! Thanks for watching, it’s lovely to have you aboard 😊
What a lovely vlog and cruise. Stunning. That’s the life !
Thanks so much Trevor! It really is quite a lovely life most of the time 😊
U turn music made me LOL. Great chilled watch. Thank You Both👍X🐰x
Glad you enjoyed it Julie! I love choosing the music and sometimes Pete hears me editing and the music I have playing and there’s always a ‘you’re not making me look stupid are you?’ comment from him 😂
Great tip about the diesel additive 👍 Debbie is brilliant love her embroidery. Super to see you in real time 😂 and look forward to catching up again ❤❤❤❤
Anything to keep away diesel bug! There was a much longer explanation from Pete but for some reason the audio was totally out of sync with his mouth so I had to cut some of it! He can tell you in person over a drink. Scintillating boating conversation 😂😂. Hope you are all well, see you soon 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard look forward to it 😀🥰
Been watching for a while out here in California, wondering if we will ever take the plunge and do a holiday on the UK canals. You two inspire us to maybe slow our role and try narrow boating. Like you all lots.
That’s so lovely to hear! You know you will get a raving recommendation from us! It’s certainly the way to travel, and a beautiful way to see the UK 😊
Exciting plans for the year to look forward too - can’t wait to see what you get up to 🥰
We are happy we can take you along with us Lesley! 😊
Always always love your vlogs......keep it up guys......and thank you for sharing xxxx
Our pleasure Loraine! Thats so good to hear 😊
Esto es vida! Thanks.
¡Qué vida más maravillosa! Gracias por ver el vídeo.
Another lovely video. I look forward to following you over your summer and autumn. Thanks again.
You’re so welcome Neil. We are glad we can take you on our travels 😊
I'm curious what the long tunnels pass under.
Hope the coming year's travels will be full of adventure and more lovely scenery.
Great video. Xx looking forward to keeping up with you on your next adventures ❤
That’s good to hear Shelly! Happy we can take you along on our travels 😊
Hi Pete and Caroline. A beautiful trip. Thanks for sharing your plans for the year. If you end up in Chester let me know as it’s my home City as we’d love to say hello again. Take care. Nick
Thanks for joining us! We will definitely be in touch when we make it up to Chester 😊
You have great plans! 😊 Looking forward to seeing how it all goes. It doesn't really matter if you go back to places you love because it's all going to be different anyway.
We love that we are able to take you along on our travels Dorothy! And you’re right, you miss so much first time around and it’s lovely to go back to some favourite places too
@@onedaymoreaboard Looking forward to the journeys.
Caroline, you have a wonderful eye for image composition. Have you considered a calendar of your photos? Surely would sell well. 😎
Thank you so much! We’ve had quite a few viewers suggest the same so perhaps we should give it some more thought! 😊
Hi, Thanks for a lovely vlog. Good to see Christine steering. Practise makes perfect. We have just come down the Shroppie and the Severn to Sharpness and will be going up the Avon in a month or so. I you see Rainboat again then please say hello. By the way the boat you showed from The Hinkley works in Netherton is where the anchor for the titanic was made. We Nethertonians say it was the only part that worked properly ;-)
We will be sure to look out for you on our travels! We are excited to explore new waters. The only part that worked properly! That’s true 😂
Just looking at the title, we're half way through the year !!! Love the dogs tho.
I’ve changed the title a little, but as we didn’t leave the marina until mid April they are still our 2024 cruising plans I guess 😂. Thanks for watching 😊
Great video,thanks for sharing ❣️🇨🇦
You’re so welcome Barb! Thanks for watching 😊
Looking forward to seeing your 2024 travels. Thanks guys. Take care.
Thanks Roger! Happy we can take you along with us by the power of RUclips! 😊
Hey nice to see your video again, looking4ward to the future with you and Hamish and Poppy.
Am back tapestring again I am doing one for you, I will letcha know when fished it.
Take care 😘😘😘 X X X
That’s so lovely of you Susan! Love from us all xxx
Brilliant video - so great to see some you and Pete time and the inside of your narrowboat. Your video is SO professional with the maps, music and dialogue. Well done - we’re in the UK to meet with Bluewater boats first 2 weeks of October be great to buy you lunch if you’re around…
That’s lovely to hear Swanny! I promised I would show more of our life didn’t I! Exciting times ahead for you. Make sure you message nearer the date. It would be great to get together in real life for lunch! 😊
Gloucester is certainly worth going to. As to going down to Sharpness…….hmmm….. unless you are going to go across to Bristol which really requires a pilot, it isn’t that interesting. The canal is straight as with nothing on the way and Sharpness was very underwhelming. The trip across the River Severn to Bristol would be brave but a great achievement🤪🤪
We are not up for being that brave to go across to Bristol having seen a few videos! A bit like when we went down to Boston but decided against crossing The Wash! We’ve heard such mixed reviews about the Gloucester & Sharpness so the jury is still out on whether we go down that far or just turn at Gloucester. I think time will be a factor when we actually get down there. It’s good to hear other people’s experiences though, thanks for watching 😊
Now that you have you shirts done, you'll need to get bandanas done for Hamish and Poppy to wear
Now there’s an idea! Thanks for watching 😊
love your travels.. Newbie tracking you.. Love your doggies ❤❤
Welcome aboard, we are glad you found us! Hamish and Poppy love their boat dog life, as you can see 😊
Your vlogs are always so full of interesting things to hear and see that sometimes I miss the obvious. It wasn't until Pete went down in the Watford Locks that I realised you only have 2 solar panels on the roof. Are they 'high power' (non-technical term 🙄 meaning do you rely on a generator or are they strong enough to run all you need?). Your plans for the rest of 2024 look great - here's hoping the weather and the gods are on your side this year. Already looking forward to your next vlog; and seeing you enjoy Sunday lunch 🤞. Cuddles to Hamish and Poppy, and safe cruising to you. ❤
Always lovely to hear that you are enjoying the videos Jill! We have 500W of solar panels and since we upgraded our batteries we have seen a huge improvement and not had to run our engine so much to charge the batteries. If we ever had a new boat built we would probably add another solar panel though 😊
Whelton fields is where our boat is going to be moored this year so hopefully all good there.a lovely vlog thanks for showing us all the boats at crick but never saw you at crick ❤.
Sorry we didn’t get to catch up with you at Crick Phil! Welton Fields is a lovely marina and a great location. We have stopped quiet a few times for diesel and the staff are lovely, and that’s what makes it even better 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard hopefully we will meet on the canals one day soon
Always glad to help out. Cannot wait to see how the new mikes work out for you. Thank you for the video. Been a bit behind on watching your video's. Our youngest 'finally' got married (age 43) last weekend. To a lovely lady. We now have a daughter and granddaughter. Married at a farm / barn setting. (now a venue) Out in the countryside and it was lovely. Weather - hot / humid / rain and possible storms tonight. Bad flooding out in some places in Iowa. (breached dike and town flooded) Under a flash flood watch here also. Take care - hope the puppies / family and you are all doing well. God Bless.
Thank you to you and the boss for your wonderful support of our channel Spinner! It always makes us smile when we read your updates. That sounds like a perfect family celebration 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Above us in Wisconsin. There was 5 tornadoes the other night. Argyle Wisconsin had a church destroyed. I've driven past it many times over the years. Grand old school country church. Sad to know it's now gone. Nothing close to your daughter that I heard of.
@@onedaymoreaboard Thank you - we have been happy to support your channel. I'll drop another bit of 'coffee' to you. 🙂
Oh no! Sophie was in Oregon on vacation last week so missed it all. Her first time in the PNW and she absolutely loved it. We sadly never made it there during our time in the US
Thank you so much 😊
Great Video Guys. Recently discovered your channel and love it so much I had to subscribe!
Welcome aboard and thanks much 😊
Great vlog. I loved your photo in b&w of the inside of Cricket tunnel - fabulous brick work and lighting. Looking forward to following your next adventures. It sounds like you have a great year ahead of you xx
Great vlog and looking forward to next week’s as we stayed at the Shepherd’s Hut in Braunston, just after bottom lock two weeks ago. 5 min walk to the Admiral Nelson!
Oh we’ve see the Shepherd’s hut, and yes it’s there in the next video that I’m currently editing! Perfect location so close to the Admiral Nelson. We love that pub 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard yes after living in Houston for 27 yrs we appreciate the British pubs!
In our time in Houston the place we found that was most like a British pub was Chelsea’s Wine Bar on NASA Road 1. Far more pub-like than the actual ‘pub’ that was next door which was more like a sports bar 😊
Another great vlog guys and looking forward to this years cruising plans, sounds exciting. Take care Wendy & Darren xx
Happy we can take you along for the ride! Hope you are all well and enjoying the summer finally 😊 ☀️
Wonderful! I shall look forward to joining you on your travels. X
Thank you so much! 😊
Looking forward to your summer travels. Stay safe.
Happy we can take you along with us Jill 😊
I wonder, how many of your viewers duck when you go under a bridge. Poppy is a very busy lady...Hamish is a sweet older man who has his dad's number!! That Sunday Lunch idea, what a great plan, go from one good Sunday Lunch place to the next Sunday Lunch. Love your vlogs and the B&W shots.
That’s so lovely to hear Karen! You certainly have Hamish and Poppy figured out perfectly! And yes, a tour of Sunday lunches across the UK is what this life is all about, all though we do enjoy some wonderful home made ones on board from master chef Pete 😊
Another beautiful vlog. Loved the Crick tunnel shots and the new style of more talking to camera. I know how Pete felt in that tunnel though, I hate getting my hair wet too 😂.
Loves Pete’s concentration as he tries not to look back at the bridges, and get you steering through bridges…..with no standing box needed unlike me 😂.
The years plans look great. Fab outro too. See you soon. Take care ❤xx
Thank you! Breaking our tradition and making ourselves talk more to camera, especially me! You’ll need a big old rain hat to keep your hair dry! See you soon xxx
Good video cracking it thanks lee
Glad you enjoyed it Lee 😊
Now seen all your vidoes ( not necessarily in the correct order) but have enjoyed them all . Looking forward to more! Best wishes for your new season!😀😀
That’s so good to hear Max! Glad to have you aboard 😊
As always Xx
Thank you Edward 😊
I did notice that you do not use the horn as much as Martin on Rhapsody in Blue.
I think Martin’s klaxon horn is second to none on the cut for sure! 😂
hello both sorry i didnt get to watch you last timme im up to my ass in garden work i did watch julie and martin the other day shes looking much better i hope your both very well so now im going to watch your great show
We saw Julie and Martin the other day and they are all back to good health again thankfully! Thanks for watching 😊
How did you know it was clear for you to travel through Crick tunnel?
Enjoy your vlogs 😊😊
Thanks so much! Crick tunnel is two way, so you don’t wait for it to be clear to go through. You just keep everything crossed that you don’t meet anything coming the other way as it’s a tight squeeze but doable! 😊
Watching your video tonight. Question, can you not turn around in a marina? Seeing you pass two marinas to get to that tight winding hole.
Thanks for watching Jim! Marina entrances are not designated winding holes and some can be quite unhappy if you try to turn there, especially when we are so close to an actual winding hole. We like to keep everyone happy 😊
May be just Marin playing up Julie .
I think you may be right there John, especially as Julie often sits at the front right next to the horn 😂
he did great in that tunnel it was long enough i dont know how you both do it it must be hard to drive in the dark wet tunnel so i give him ten out of ten very good he makes it look easy but i bet its not
You’re right, it takes a lot of concentration and I leave it all to Pete while I video! He does make it look very easy doesn’t he. Thanks for watching 😊
Why could'nt you do a u-turn at the marina?
The marina isn’t a designated winding hole, and some get annoyed if they are used as such, but the actual winding hole is only a little further up the canal so it wasn’t a problem 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard so basicly, follow the rules and life is much sweeter on the canal.
Exactly that 😊
On the other hand, I can only understand metres, feet and inches make no sense to me. 18 metres is six storeys, or ground floor, four floors and the roof in building terms.
We were saying how mixed up we are in the UK using imperial on the roads, with miles and yards yet metric for everything else, but most people of our age still visualise imperial! You mainland Europeans have it sorted! 😂😊
Where the goodness did the word winding come from. It doesn’t seem to relate to what it means in any way.
Back in the days when the boats were pulled by horses they used the wind to help turn, hence the term winding hole 😊
