Another great tutorial, I have been wanting to install zsh (correctly) for some time and have tried before and had some success but mostly failure. Now I have it installed and configured - thanks to you.
This was an excellent video. You have no idea how much this helped me. I sometimes to try find stuff out from other sources. But it usually fails. I've finally learned that if I want to learn anything about Arch, I need to go to you. If I'd watched these videos to begin with it would have saved me HOURS! For anyone else who tries this make sure you are using the Awesome Font terminal font. Because if not Powerlevel 10k won't show up like it should.
Thank you. I had seen this theme in other YT videos and wasn't clear what it was or how to install. I have not installed it on my Macbook using iTerm2. Perfect.
Followed this to the letter. Running p10k configure just shows blank spaces where the various shapes should be. Yes I have the two fonts installed exactly as suggested, by your exact same method too.
@@eflinux Appreciate that you replied :-) Just used pacman to install powerline & powerline-fonts. Same thing. No triangle as the wizard automatically starts.
@@eflinux Yep, ttf-dejavu was already installed. Just added noto-fonts-emoji with the same result: no triangle, square, lock etc showing when I run the wizard. Fear not, I now have a lovely prompt and everything is efficient. By the way, the sudo module for oh-my-zsh is absolutely fantastic :-) Never would've known about that if I hadn't watched your video. You're very kind, but I don't expect you to be my unpaid technical assistant. I just thought it was maybe something obvious I'd missed. If I find the solution, I'll post back here. Have also dumped Yay in favour of Paru. I think that's the future. Just to say once more: really appreciate the time you've spend putting out these videos. Thanks.
Hello ermanno, i really like your videos. They are very helpful for me. Everything works fine, only one thing. When i install neofetch at the end. Neofetch shoes me that i am still using bash as the current shell and not zsh. What's wrong with that? Many thanks for help
thanks for the video, but I will not install zsh or powerlevel for a simple reason. If you do work with multiple servers and you ssh to them it will be very quickly that they will not have any of them. Also installing them is not possible, usually for security reasons they are behind firewalls with no internet access. So it is better to learn a shell that is available everywhere like bash.
Hi Mr. Ermanno! I wanted to switch from bash to z-shell in my Manjaro Linux pc terminal but by mistake I wrote "/ usr / bin / git-shell" instead of "/ bin / zsh". After restart the terminal will not work at all. When I click to open the terminal, it starts up but quickly disappears. I have tried with other terminals but unfortunately it did not help to fix the problem. Please help me! With best regards fahim
Thank you, Ermanno, for this video! I have this theme installed for a month now, but I don't have any icons showing, even though I have a lot of power line fonts installed! What could be the problem plz?
hi.i do like your tutorials but i got stuck in this one. At the minute 3:50 after i entered "git clone --depth= 1 ..... " and then "source .zshrc" iam presented with a much latter menu than what you have there. You start confirming if you can see the symbols but i am sent to "Prompt Style" making it impossible to have the prompt that you have. I've already made this video and the part 1, two times but with the same results.have you ever had this problem or know how to correct it or is it possible to post a link with your .zshrc file settings at that time (maybe i can override the configurations like that).thanks
Sorry I realized just now you said you’re using Windows Terminal. I’m not familiar with that yet, but this guide might help you: yduman.github.io/blog/wsl2-setup/
Question: I dont see most of the logo in the setup, i tried to download font-awesome but the only logo that i see is the lock. How can i download or install the logos? before i proceed with the configuration. Thanks
Thanks for the tutorial. I have 2 questions however, when I open up my terminal I have to retype zsh to load the zsh otherwise it starts in bash. So how do I make it to load in zsh every time I open my terminal. And even I load zsh when i pull up neofetch it still show that I'm in bash shell. ? I'm in i3 on arch by the way. And my second question is how do you clear your terminal so fast !?! Thanks!
Hi Rob! You can change the shell by following the instructions here: wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Zsh#Making_Zsh_your_default_shell - As for clearing the terminal it's done with ctrl+l (lowercase L).
@@eflinux Thanks for the reply. I did follow the wiki and it was still not working ... but of course I'm in i3 .. every time I do something I have to reload i3. That's what I did and it's working fine now .. lol
Hi Ermano, Hope you're doing well, I am currently having issue with the icons, They aren't changing it's just plain empty block. Is there a way to fix it? Appreciate,

This tutorial is just amazing and awesome... you are really a good teacher

I have used Powerlevel10k for a long time. Started with Powerlevel9k with oh-my-zsh and Antigen.
thank you for explaining zsh clearly. Appreciated 🙏
My pleasure!
thank you for tutorials on zsh,
Excelent custom for zsh, thanks.

It really also depends on the base install and the packages you have Make sure you have powerline and the powerline fonts installed.

what is the difference between powerlevel10k and powerline? is powerline still so much slower in 2022?
Use antigen with ohmyzsh It will be easier to manage like update install and add new plugins

In that kind of scenario it makes perfect sense. But if you are using a single PC you can choose the shell you are the most comfortable working with.

If bash is still installed you can use cash -s path/to/bash
@@eflinux thanks for the answer, but unfortunately I can not use the terminal, I do not know how to write: "cash -s path / to / bash"
True, sorry. I'd probably boot from a live ISO, mount the partitions, chroot in and make the necessary changes.

Hi, cannot see the lock symbol for example. Is there something, i have to install or to configure to get this working?
Make sure to install the awesome-terminal-fonts and the ttf-font-awesome, then reboot.
@@eflinux Thx, but isn't working with these both installed :-(
In this case check for the powelevel10k fonts. You find the package on the Arch repos.
i installed ohmyzsh in arch but when i type p10k configure it not ask me about icons instead directly ask me to choose prompt .please solve my issue
I don't know how your base install is, so can't really say.
Great tutorial
I am using windows terminal app but when I installed powerlevel10k the transparent background was gone...only black terminal
Are you on a WM?

You can try to download a bunch fonts like ttf-dejavu and powerline-fonts.
you should install that font: github.com/romkatv/powerlevel10k#meslo-nerd-font-patched-for-powerlevel10k
Try `pfetch`, from my point of view is better for running at the start of the terminal.
Nah, pfetch doesn't show much information.
I don't like this fancy prompt, and will stick to a simple one, but thanks for showing how to do it!
Of course! This is always personal preference :)

А для чего из github скачивать Powerlevel10k когда в официальном репозитории все есть и AUR не надо и шрифты работают корректно ! ?
You can use both methods. The AUR saves files in a different location though.
Hi Ermano,
Hope you're doing well, I am currently having issue with the icons, They aren't changing it's just plain empty block.

Hi there! Make sure you have all the fonts required, and re run the configuration with "p10k configure".
