You can do a blown motor RX-8 and swap in the GM V-6 (LFX I think?) for less than $10k, plenty of cheap low km ones in the junkyard in wrecks and if you do the work yourself. They have kits now which make it an easy enough swap for the price.

Also under 5,000 a vw based rail buggy. Is it going to be the best suspension wise? No. But it would be interesting. Even stock vws can go 60-70 all day and maybe 80-90 in a pinch, I wouldn't take it to road Atlanta, but a short track would be really good. VIR comes to mind.

C4 Vettes had a ZF 6 speed, 97' C5 was the first Vette to get the t56. LT1 F-bodys got the the t56 in '93 good old fucking gm lol. That being said, '98-02 4th gen F-body's with an LS1/T56 can be had sub $10k easy are a ton of car with good aftermarket and oem support. Personally I have a t56/Ls1 swapped 3rd gen Camaro but that's because I'm a dirtball 24 hours of lemons racer and had to do it on a budget.

These are generally terrible choices. If you're going to a track you want light, less weight means less cost of consumables. Some of these monsters they're suggesting here would absolutely tear through tyres and brakes. Some of these choices are just dreadful. Get an MX5 (sorry, Miata) or an MR2, or pretty much any Fast honda. These guys have basically spent a whole video looking for the least dynamic, poorest handling, heaviest cars they could find to put round a track. It's almost like they've never actually been to one!
