Rest in Peace , Great Singer, Great Soul, Great Technician, Great Teacher! Look how she is standing, what kind of dignity during this terribly difficult aria. She owns this aria entirely. Love and respect, dear Ghena!
Callas's Lady has never been equalled, I think partly because she understood that it was a bel canto roles that required every technical proficiency demanded of a Norma. She could sing those trills in this aria and the drinking song in a way that nobody since has done, and she also had those thousands of colors and shades. Ghena definitely outshines anyone in this role on stage today. She was the real deal.
