Canik may be one of the most underrated line of pistols on the market today. The triggers are fantastic on these guns. I've got this exact same model an love it. The only problem with Canik currently is that there are ZERO mags available for it and haven't been for months.
Looks like they are starting to get a few 18 round canik mags you can order from fleet farm. The tp9 mags are universal along the tp9 models, at least as far as the sc.
Picked up my 3rd SC a few weeks back. This one has the Burnt Bronze upper & they replaced the phosphorus white dot FS with a fiber optic rod ( green, red or amber). I use the Romeo Zero on all my SC's. Ive been using the SC as my EDC & Competition gun for over 1 1/2 years & with over 7000 rounds thru the 3 of them, I have not had any issues. These gun just run. Quality, Durability, Dependability & price, Caniks are hard to beat.
I bought one. The spring was super stiff and very hard to rack. Canik sent me a looser spring. I took it to the range 1st time. Failed to feed on the very first magazine on the 4th rd out of 15, using stiff spring. Switched to looser spring every other magazine to see which I preferred. Shot 100 rds and had a couple more minor issues. Slide failed to come all the way forward once about a couple centimeters, I noticed it before pulling trigger so I just pushed slide forward. And 1 failure to eject last shell with the slide not locking open but closing and catching the shell. I don't know which spring I had in during the last 2 issues but I figure it was the loose spring cuz it sounds like loose spring issues. Just wondering if it sounds like breakin issues. Other then that it ran the 100 rds good.
@@alfredsukeloff7183 Sorry, I've never had any of those issues on any of my 11 Caniks, nor have I had a break-in period. l could care less what moniker is given to the Canik subcompact. lt has a better factory trigger than any S&W or Glock I've ever owned. Plus it is just as concealable as any firearm I've carried for the last twenty-plus years and I still can't believe it only cost me 360 dollars when l bought it a year ago.
@@joshelcubano5649 i got my canik two years ago it is awesome best trigger on a factory pistol out there. Very concealable. I've put Romeo o on it and just recently put holosun 407k both without having to use a plate.
I agree it's has a great trigger. Much better than my Walther P99 which I bought in 2006. But my Glock 30 (.45ACP) also has a very sensitive trigger. The "wall" is an interesting subject. But my Canik has a better trigger than my Walther P99, for sure. I also have an H&K with an awesome trigger pull. But the Glock 30 scares me. I can pull the trigger at the ranger and have a second "double pull" because of the way I'm not an expert and the way the Glock 30 trigger is so sensitive. It's worth taking your handguns out to the range in a berm with nobody near you so you can experiment and get used to all of your weapons. At least after you have had sufficient training from an instructor of course. IMHO
I shot the TP9 Elite SC and its big brother, the SFX last weekend at the range. I put them up against a S&W Shield EZ, an M&P 2.0 , a new S&W CSX, a Sig Sauer P365 X Magnum and a Glock 48. The Caniks out shot all the others hands-down. The trigers on the Caniks are awesome. Of course, the SFX shot flatter than the others, but the SC wasn’t far behind. My paperwork is underway, so can take home a Canik TP9 Elite SC of my own.

It's the sub compact of their line up why split hairs at the end of the day it's small enough to conceal and big enough not to be to jumpy when shooting
You presented a very detailed breakdown and commentary of this pistol! Good job!! A few months before you shot this video, I purchased my first pistol, and it's the Canik TP9 Elite w/ tungsten finish. I f*cking love this gun! I'm glad I did not go down the Glock route. In the process of learning to shoot with both eyes open, while I wear progressive glasses, mind you, it's a challenge to see the sights on my pistol. I have have a set of tritium sights to place on this gun, soon. Nevertheless, I want to purchase this SC model this year. It will become my carry pistol. I will also place a Holoson EPS Carry MRS optic on it, since it is milled and designed to do so. I want to be sure my sighting is "dead on" when firing that round. Weights never really been my problem. Size is. This is more in the subcompact range. With stuff like the SIG P365 being in the Micro Compact range. Weight, for me, has a lot more to do with comfortability than whether or not I see a gun as compact or not.
@damienharbin242 correct!! I basically Saud the same thing!! Any gun under a 4 inch barrel imo is a subcompact..it's just a little longer than others in its class..I compared this gun to the taurus g2c and xd9 sub which are shorter but all are still under a 4 inch barrel
I was looking for a sub compact or compact and really like this size. It can be a glock 19 size gun with 15 rd mags or the perfect concealed carry size with the 12 rounders. Really wanna try the mc9 and see if i just like the size of the tp9 sc cause im used to it, but none the less pleased with my purchase. I also wanna say that free holster is helpful for us noobies. One because we get to try something without soending money, 2 because it gives you a quick idea on "yes i like this style im getting something similar." Or "no i hate this holster i wont get this style of holster. " either way that education on what you like or dislike is very helpful.
There no standardized measurements or requirements when it comes to classifying pistol sizes/categories. Literally every manufacturer uses their own system based on other pistols said manufacturer offers.
There's no standardized measurement sure but there are industry standards. It dwarfs other subcompacts in width and length, and is dimensionally more similar to other compacts.
My SF elite came with an amber and red front site that are really bright and dont need charged and are interchangeable. Check the little baggie in the case with the extra roll pins.
I have the TP9 elite combat that I really like. I'd love to get this as my concealed carry but at 5'8" 130lb I don't think I can conceal it well enough, especially in warm weather.
I'm 5'7, 135lbs and I carry the tp9 sc with the 15 round mag in the 12:30 position with little to no printing. I mostly wear 29" pants and large T shirts. I also carry a spare mag, a small flashlight, pepper gel and an ipod on my belt.

IMO slide length is less important than grip length, and I'll take a Pic rail over non-rail any day. (When comparing TP9 vs G27) P.S. I only watch your videos for support/knowledge. Most of these guns aren't on my radar because I've been OWB open carrying. Keep up the good work!
Would anyone say that this or the tp9sf elite is better? They're pretty similar all things considered, i would be running 15 rounds in both so the size would essentially be the same on the grips. The only difference would be like half an inch in the slide length.
If you plan to carry concealed this will do it a little better due to the size difference, but some people are comfortable concealing a full size. I say go the biggest you can but still be comfortable enough to carry every day.

Thank you for the review. I just got myself this gun. The funny thing is that you say all these great things about the gun but the tone of voice make it sound like it is not good.
I have the tp9 elite sc and the tp9 da/sa and sold my sar9 after I bought them. The Canik magazines are interchangeable and though the sar9 is a great handgun, I prefer the triggers on the Caniks. I have a S&W .45 shield and it's thinner and smaller than the sc. The sc is not a sub compact. I will not sell one of my Caniks. Just wish Canik would make a .45 or 10mm.
This size difference is no different that when other companies make their clothing line. Small with company A will be slightly different than a Small with company B ... Same with sneakers, so i would expect the same with guns. I have a Glock G45 and a Canik TP9 SFX full size, both are full size guns but the Canik is physically larger. The Canik TP9 SF Elite is a compact and its the same size as my Glock G45 which is a full size gun.
I have medium-sized man hands (5'9, 170 Lbs). The recoil with my TP9 Elite SC was way too snappy... really disliked my purchase of this gun. Had to reset my grip each time. Hard to rack the slide. I replaced the stock recoil guide rod spring (17 Lbs) with the blue Canik Low Force Recoil Spring #PACN0559 from Midwest Gun Works. (13 Lbs) Now...I LOVE SHOOTING THIS CANIK!! ❤ Can stay on target.... No resetting my grip each time... Easier to rack the slide... No jams or stove pipes... Installation? Easy like Sunday mornin'...
Brass backstrap would’ve also helped what you were experiencing . Evens out the front heaviness and makes the gun feel more “tame.” Probably the best upgrade for this gun.
Had me right up until you said a high quality holster and quoted Alienwear and Crossbreed. Agree to disagree i guess. There are many many better holsters out there. Those are pretty mediocre IMO. The Enigma system, Harry's Holsters, Vedder, and Bravo Concealment IWB would be better quality builds in general, but the issue with Caniks, is that not everyone makes a holster for it, matter of fact, not many people ever replace the factory holster, so there aren't many companies that stock them. There is a subreddit for Canik, and they have a handful of sources for holsters and accessories. I would suggest doing whatever modifications you are going to do regarding optic, light, mag release, etc, and then having one made from a source they've already vetted at r/canik. Cheers.
Nearly 25 ounces, 1.45 in width, 6.7 in length and 5 in tall is definitely not a SUB compact IMO. Its a compact. Too big and heavy for EDC IMO. My Ruger Security 380 is my size/weight limit for EDC.
How do you like that Security 380. I have a Security 9 and a LCP II. Both great guns, both opposites. The Ruger 9 was the first gun I ever bought. I have a Canik TP9 SF now. Great pistol. That Security 9 is so comfortable, though.
@@toddm9501 I like it but I picked up a KelTec P 17 which has displaced it as my primary because it’s like half the weight, better trigger, less recoil and still holds 16 rounds of 22lr.
For me it was the way I could grab this gun with my big bear hands and shoot with no problems or having it feel small. Then my way smaller wife with her smaller hands gets it and has no trouble at all with it. We both love it.
The grip length is with the flat plate. The width of this gun? No, not at all, it is a very wide gun. If you don't like a wide throat on a pistol, it's not for you. It's as wide as a Glock 19. The part right up under the beavertail area, where it would be. It's wide. All the TP9 series are. They aren't single stacks, they're bigger guns. It does appendix about as well as a Glock 26 does. It might even shoot better. I know it's blasphemy, but it's a shooter. I'm not trading out my elite combat or glock 19 for it, but I'll get one eventually. Too good a gun for the money (not even to mention all the free accessories in the box) to pass it up. Would you rather have a Taurus Toro? Shoot them and then decide. That's what it costs, and it's a deal, but a subcompact?....only at Canik is this an SC lol.
Canik……the Glock killer. Sorry Glock fans. Just my opinion. And this is coming from a guy who has 4 Glocks and got my first one, a Glock 21 .45 acp (that I still have) in 1992. I recently bought a Canik TP9 Elite Combat, and my wife has this one the TP9 Elite SC. They are both stellar weapons! And the price can’t be beat considering what you would pay for the bigger name brands with the features and shoot-ability of Canik’s. I still have my Glocks. But they are spending more time in their holsters and cases lately.
I’ve heard a lot of problems about Canik, but I’ve never actually heard them from the person. Only “my buddy had X problem with his Canik” type stuff. That being said, I have the Mete SFT, and it’s above and beyond the most accurate pistol I’ve owned and still extremely reliable. This is in comparison to $300, $500, $600, and $800 pistols. In my experience, Glock isn’t the name to beat, at least as far as gun for price. It’s Canik.
Does your wife carry it? I’m thinking about buying this tomorrow as my EDC. I’m a female about 120 pounds. Trying to decide if this a good choice for my EDC.
I own two Caniks and like them but had issues with this one. Cheap design with retention spring for the slide release lever that keeps coming off. You have to bend it slightly to increase tension and reposition.Big issue was the recoil spring assy itself. Where the spring itself wraps around at the end where it meets the flat plate, it keeps overlaping the coil ahead of it. You have to take a tool and reposition it or the firearm will not load and eject. Has happened 3 times. Pistol is new. Contacting Canik for a replacement or repair under warranty. As for carrying concealed, I think the Mete is the better choice but I either use my Walther CCP or my Sig P365XL. For me just better options and cannot be seen.

( with my Blackout version,, looks like a smaller Executive)
Yes it is threaded too
The threaded barrel goes great with the Suarez gen 4/5 Glock comp
Dont know if it will fit but the Hex Wasp is a great red dot for a pistol that almost never gets in the way.
Canik and Taurus 👍🏾 for me plus the mags work in each one
Let me know what holster you get for it I’ve been looking but haven’t found one. I was thinking about get the waist band let me know what you think of them
Great video man! Loved every second of the in depth break down..i carry the full size Tp9 DA but am looking to get something compact like this
Thanks for the video, and the useful info Also, thanks to you sir I bought myself a Sticky Holster, and man is it a good one!
I have been a fan of the Sticky Holsters for many years now. For small, light CCW they are hard to beat. Thanks for watching!
How snappy is the recoil?
Bout the only thing I would change is the front sight. Otherwise, sounds like it may be my new EDC
Great review! Thank you!
This is an AWESOME PISTOL!!!
Thank you for the review. I just got myself this gun. The funny thing is that you say all these great things about the gun but the tone of voice make it sound like it is not good.
I agree it seemed like he didn’t like the gun he had a lot of complaints
It’s almost like he’s underplaying his enthusiasm, I agree with you gentleman
Got a link on what XS big dots will fit this? Those sights are not meant for a long life, they're just a backup option for an optic honestly.
Excellent video
I heard their customer service is terrible what is your thoughts
I have the tp9 elite sc and the tp9 da/sa and sold my sar9 after I bought them. The Canik magazines are interchangeable and though the sar9 is a great handgun, I prefer the triggers on the Caniks. I have a S&W .45 shield and it's thinner and smaller than the sc. The sc is not a sub compact. I will not sell one of my Caniks. Just wish Canik would make a .45 or 10mm.
so i could use 20rd mag from the elite n use for the sc👀👀🔥
@@riseofjasonvoorheesbihh yes
I just bought one yesterday.
To me it's more of a compact size then subcompact.
I just call it a hybrid.
Looks like a nice gun.. Does anyone know if you can get this one with a manual safety.. or w/ a palm safety?
No you cannot
My only concern is that the sandpaper like grip will rub against my side. I carry btwn. 1-2:00 and I don’t like wearing t shirts
Hurley Welding and Woodworks has a 3d printed mag plate that takes up that gap Just FYI
It depends the grip is short enough to be sub “compact”. Though the gun is a bit heavy.
You complain about weight bu put red dot and light on it
@@beybulatozden9508 what I mean, is that the gun is closer to a P320 X Carry than it is to a P365 in the “compact” tier level.
The best pistol for the price you can buy. They are under $450 most places .
I heard they were $350 when they first came out. The hype must raised the price
If your military affiliated , they are $360.00 no taxes on the two bases near me in NC ( Cherry Point & CLNC).
$550 for the optic version with the shield sms2
I picked mine up for $380 at a gun show.
Please do a Beretta Apx compact
I just picked mine up yesterday for $480
Ouch. I paid $380 at a gun show
When you broke it down you didn’t have to pull trigger? Most all striker fired you need to to that.
If it's cocked yes. If it's not you don't have to.
(13 Lbs)
Now...I LOVE SHOOTING THIS CANIK!! ❤
Can stay on target....
Nice👍👍👍
Lot's of similarities to the walther ppq Sc
They picked a good one to clone.
The grip is the hard part to conceal.
It’s more of a compact thank a subcompact and the with is more full sized!
It's better than glock .period
FACTS but because its so little customization available. I'm buying a glock
Cheers.
Canik MO1 sights if you want a Red Dot
Nearly 25 ounces, 1.45 in width, 6.7 in length and 5 in tall is definitely not a SUB compact IMO. Its a compact. Too big and heavy for EDC IMO. My Ruger Security 380 is my size/weight limit for EDC.
How do you like that Security 380. I have a Security 9 and a LCP II. Both great guns, both opposites. The Ruger 9 was the first gun I ever bought. I have a Canik TP9 SF now. Great pistol. That Security 9 is so comfortable, though.
@@toddm9501 I like it but I picked up a KelTec P 17 which has displaced it as my primary because it’s like half the weight, better trigger, less recoil and still holds 16 rounds of 22lr.
its good but the slide feels VERY heavy compared to other handguns in its class. its a bit off putting otherwise solid
It’s not bad it you lock it back for a couple nights
First of all I like the size it's right in between. Second Use a flashlight to hit the site.
For me it was the way I could grab this gun with my big bear hands and shoot with no problems or having it feel small. Then my way smaller wife with her smaller hands gets it and has no trouble at all with it. We both love it.
That reset is nothing ! I can’t think of any name brand pistol with that quick of reset !
Janik: Jan means Life; ikmeans -wise. == (Life-wise)
You carry with the smaller mag and the backup is the larger mag because size is irrelevant at that pojnt
Nope all caniks are bigger/heavier than glocks the thinniest/lightest loaded compacts out G19/SD9
Trying to decide if this a good choice for my EDC.
look at Ruger american compact, great pistol and made in USA, instead of Turkey
waiting on my fat guy holster for this pewpew.
Just that customer service is TERRIBLE you get No HELP at all if issues with firearm which hesitates people from purchasing one.
Everyone I talk to says the exact opposite about Canik's customer service.
Very wide pistol it's weight and it's width is not suitable for concealed carry
Alot of people are using this pistol for EDC!
It’s too wide, too clunky, too ugly. God it’s so ugly. I had a full size tp9sfx, it’s a good gun, but only the fde looks good
What do you consider a pretty gun?
@@teelowteelow356 sig 226, smith and Wesson model 66,19,27, Walther ppk, sig 938, colt python, there’s so many to name
@@brandonjohnson2493 I have heard from many sources that bad guys greatly prefer to be shot by a "pretty gun." It gives them more cred in the slammer.
have you ever shoot one?
@@jesseawiten8480 I’ve owned a Tp9sfx in FDE
Taurus G2c G3c are better guns
Anytime some says Taurus, yea, No.
@davidwarren3433 read and you'll see the company has done a complete turn around....you must let go of the past or that's where you'll stay!
Canik has there Severe Duty Upgrade for free on there site, Top right corner. This notice applies to Canik’s 9×19 mm pistols: TP9SA, TP9SF, TP9SFx, TP9SF Elite, TP9SF Elite-S.
Boring
To me it’s full size
Nope, not full size. More like a hybrid.
