An unbelievable album that brings back so many memories. Even Dave Grohl says this album is a pivotal moment in music history. Paranoid Android is a masterpiece, and live, just WOW! Thanks Mike and Dev for this wonderful 29 minutes of bliss.
Interesting selection. I would not have liked Radiohead during the 90's but, over a long period of time, I have learned to appreciate music differently than I used to so . . . thank you for sharing! Take care and be well, Liam.
So happy you two are doing this album! I love this album deeply. I once read a review of this that described the overall sound of the record as something to the effect of ‘chrome and shiny white ceramic’, and I think that’s a perfect way to capture the vibe. Have fun!
Thanks for looking into Radiohead. I came late to the party. I didn't know much about them until 2010 when a band that I played in wanted to learn "Creep". I did the one thing that would get me kicked out of any RH fan conversation; I bought the Best of Radiohead album. All Radiohead albums should be listened to as separate experiences. Anyway, I really enjoyed the song "There There" off the Hail to the Thief album and did a deep dive. 13 years later I collected all of there work and have them on my Mt. Rushmore of bands (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd being the others). While they are often compared to PF, I feel they mirror the Beatles. They are great live but do a lot of studio experimentation and change significantly from album to album. I hope you enjoy the group and do the entire catalogue. Their work requires multiple listens to get the full impact. Take care,
Bought this with the bends in the airport , on my way to India , amazing listening producing vivid memories of the trip . Don’t envy you reacting to it on first listen .
Their entire discography is diverse and fantastic they really remind me of the Beatles more than any other band their evoloution in sound is so Beatle-like. They become much more intricate and complex musically as they evolve and if you are into theory they are very unorthodox and unique they just kept getting better and better.
Nigel Godrich is really the unofficial 6th member of Radiohead, a fantastic sound engineer and a co-producer essentially. He is also a member of The Smile, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood's 'side project' band who are well worth checking out.
You said the musicianship didn't blow you away, but like Alex Lifeson of Rush, the guitar player plays the perfect notes at the perfect time, respect 👌
Easily one of the best albums released by any artist from the UK ever. During the “Brit Pop” era this came along and blew every other band over here out of the water.
@@MusicforBusyPeople I was in my early teens during that era so there are some questionable albums in my CD collection. So many bands that my friends and I were convinced would go on to be mega famous and now they are probably working nightshifts in a supermarket 😂
Unborn chicken voices is an easy one. Egg shakers. Thom was trying to sleep, and the band were fooling around with percussive instruments at night, namely, egg shakers.
I've been a fan for nearly 30 years and never looked this up, heard that, or even questioned it beyond thinking it's a dark lyric and always thought of eggs of course. Thanks for this.
my pick for best album of all time, though zeppelin still tops my list for best band.. i know there's comparison with pink floyd, but i felt the sounds in this album have so many similarities with zeppelin, like timestamps, layering, ad-libs, filtering, and new sound experimentation i can imagine a hypothetical late 80s zeppelin made such album ahead of time, with their experience in creating "no quarter", "the rain song", "poor tom", "over the hills & far away", and more, with JPJ magically experiments with new electronic sounds, as he did in the past but then again, what do i know about music 🖖

In the top 5 albums of the 90s. I'd also put Grace (Jeff Buckley), Moseley Shoals (OCS), August and Everything After (Counting Crows) and Nevermind (Nirvana) up there.
Got the album when it came out and thought WOW 🎉usually listened to by students. At the time Brit Pop was coming to an end. Pink Floyd were Cambridge and Radio Head were Oxford? The Clash some day🎸 PS Radio heads vidios from this album are their own art work❤
I can understand my parents now that I am as old or older than they were when I was a teen back in the late 60's and 70's. Sorry, this is not comparable to Zeppelin or Pink Floyd. the greatest album of the 1990s in my opinion!
Pulp's Different Class
It's a masterpiece
Radiohead is all about the arrangements. They are exceptional at creating moods and matching the imagery and theme of the lyrics to the music.
Subterranean Homesick Alien is a stunning song.

Agreed!
Can't wait for side 2, it's an amazing album and I an a prog geek, it blew me away in 99
Reminds me of playing FF7 and listening to this on a loop.

I much prefer this to Brit Pop 😁

St Catherine's Court is a Grade 1 listed 16th Century mansion owned by the actress Jane Seymour.
Paranoid android literally gives me anxiety!… Not completely my cup of tea, but brilliant musically 👍

You have to watch the basement live sessions if you need some clarity on if they are good musicians
Whatever you hear on this album they can do live .

How to say you nothing about music or production without saying as much. Awful analysis.
