Love mine. I cut a piece of expanded metal screen (heavy duty stuff) to fit in the inside bottom; fits in the pouch and does not add much weight at all. Creates air flow under the fuel which makes a much better burn. Plus I cut it long enough to keep the ends splayed out making it easier to install and remove the grill....now it drops right into place. Cost like $6 for a sheet of it at your home center.
HEY WALKER!! what are we doing today....MISSING YOU!! SITTING HERE CRYING...GONE FAR TO SOON BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN. you inspired me to get several pieces of gear and get outdoors. R I P SIR......I heard what happened from. REALLY BIG MONKEY....did not want to believe it was true...I have purchased both the large like yours and the mini. Love them
I rarely praise people on their youtube videos, but now I must say that you have interesting and well made videos and a positive attitude. I actually bought this same grill, it just hasn´t arrived yet. Keep up the good work!
This is where my Winnerwell fastfold titanium tent stove excels. Leave the top part off, and drop a pack grill on top. Still easily load wood with the door, and it meets fire restrictions requirements when camping during burn bans.
@@surfthestreets86 It works good with duralong (burns for over 4 hours) or any other wood but removing the grate takes away the rigidity. I wish it had a way to lift part of the grate to add wood and allow it to maintain it shape. Overall it a great firepit to keep in your vehicle for emergency and camping.
Just tried out the mini today. I love it. So easy to clean up and pack away in my pack. Worked great w/wood and I later added four charcoal briquettes to have heat w/out flame to cook over. Again, couldn't be happier. Room for two large burgers and a dog. Perfect size for one or two. The firebox is large enough to throw off a lot of heat in the winter....better than the 3 or 5 inch uprights ie..firebox etal. I have and love them, too! Very easy to lift grill screen w/the supplied tool and replace. I use the bubble wrap envelope it came in to carry it in my pack. Although the cloth case is great too. Even the box containing the item has a great little plastic handle on it. Great all around!!! Thanks for the tip!
I actually watched your video today. Great job as always! Going to check out your headlamp video next. I liked this so much bought the mini and will do a review ASAP!
Nice fire pit. For deep snow you could tie a couple of 1” dia sticks about 3 or 4 ft long to the legs and that thing would just sit on top of the fresh powder snow. I think I would change the tongs to something a bit better. Great to stash in the truck.
The tongs were made to help put the grill plate on and off when hot. So there are compromises. Some flotation will probable be needed for a snow base for sure IMO. Thanks for watching!
These little grills are awesome they’re not only good for camping or hiking but I only use charcoal and it’s so much more convenient to use this when you’re only cooking a small meal instead of firing up a big one it doesn’t take that much charcoal plus they clean up very easily as well
Hi Kevin, good looking steak! nice grill isn't it. I bought the standard size earlier this year at Cabela's. I've taken it out on 2 camping trips so far this year. Really like it, doesn't take up much space in my Jeep when I'm car camping, used to bring my bulky Weber Go Anywhere grill before and it took up considerable space.
That battoning knife looks amazing, thanks for the idea of it. Cheap too. NOTHING wrong with using firestarters. We've had three days of rain here - including flood warnings - and I went out and used my twig stove. Nothing but wet wood around. I used a tiny (for me, normal) amount of firestarter and it fizzled out. So a bit more and it got the fire going enough I could put wet wood in and it would dry it out and burn it. So I got my noodles and my espresso. To HELL with bushcrafting on a day like today!
I carry a stand-alone grill. The grill base may come in handy when us “wet-landers” can’t find rocks to set the grill on. Thanks for the review Walker.👍 I’ve tried that cauliflower “rice” before. As I see you’ve discovered salted butter is a must with that stuff.
Thumbs up are given. My friend I subscribed to you a long time ago, and always enjoy watching your video's. Please keep them coming, and I will keep watching. Thank you, and God bless.
I really like the fire pit and grill. It's big enough to useful but small enough to carry. I think I might have to get one of those 😁. Good looking steak too.
MegaWoodswalker No doubt. I took my daughter with me for an overnight stay. I was at site #1 and absolutely nobody near us. Tons of free firewood of course. 👍
Hey walker, thanks to your videos I spent the night camping at loft mountain in va on skyline drive. I also got the starter cubes they worked great. It was very nice the temperature drop to 55 with the wind blowing. Thanks for all the videos it courages me to go out and camp again. What was the red thing you had to start the fire again?
Great job Kevin. Brother you make me hungry when you cook up some Sacred Bacon or steak. I also went on a no carb diet. Stayed plenty full with meat ect but lost 40 pounds in a very short time.
This stove has at least one major/dangerous flaw, when lifting the grill off, the hinges at each end of the the grill tend to buckle inward, making it extremely difficult/ dangerous to put the grill back on when there is a bed of coal in the bottom. I have solved this issue by weaving a flat piece of brazing rod through the two lower holes on each end, this keeps that heart shaped hinge from folding in on itself, the cooking grid/grill lifts up and off and more importantly it drops on without struggling. I am working on a way to lock the open.
Nice review! Thanks Kevin! I wonder if the manufacturer had left one side of the fire pit area about 8” longer than the other if it would reflect heat from that side better so you could make it directional? Things that make me go, hhmmmmmm... And btw, keep up the low carb efforts. You can ‘retrain’ your body to use fats in your diet for energy rather than the carbs.
New ground pad? New socks? New backpack? New Silky saw? Or am I mistaken? Will there be reviews of any of these? BWT, I really like that flatpack stove. Allowing you to cook over coals and on the grill substantially increases your meal choices. So... did the cauliflower rice taste like rice or like cauliflower?
Love this thing. Would love to have it as part of my kit for most of the trips I take. A nice upgrade from a twig stove if I am with another person. Would be great to hear how much you paid so I can know if it’s in my budget without having to look on amazon. Thanks for the video/review!
Great video for what looks like a brilliant piece of kit. I also really like the look of your mini log splitter - do you know what it’s called? I can’t find it online, though maybe any thick knife would do the job just as well? Thanks! 👍
That is awesome walker. U continue to impress me with the woodsman toys. I must confess I have bought some stuff and tried it out with much enjoyment. Quick ? What’s the device that’s adding oxygen to fire pit? Respectfully
I see that you went with the stove pipe stoves in your hot tents for this year. Will you be using this one during another outing ? Or have you regulated it to just in the "warmer" weather, Brother ? Keep up the great work !!!
What's the brand and model of the tool you're using to split the wood? The thing where you say "you can be as hard as you want on this." Sorry if I missed it.
Seemed like a pretty good product. I like the grill more than the fire pit aspect. How long have you had it? Would like to know how long it will last before bottom burns though. Where was the sacred bacon??
It's stainless so don't think there will be any burn though issues. Only had it for a few weeks so if anything like that happens will update the comments. The sacred bacon will appear in the next video as editing it now. Thanks for watching!
@@MegaWoodswalker Speaking of fire kits, have you ever used a Zip firestarter? They're small cakes of tinder soaked in kerosene of all things. I've seen a video on them. Apparently, they burn for 8 to 10 minutes with a fairly large flame. I've never used them but I did order a pack. They're about $9.00 for 16 cakes.

How is it holding up as a fire pit? Is the stainless steel durable for many fire pit sessions?
