Hauling a Heavy Load in a Jeep Gladiator with the ACCUAIR Air Suspension System

- Overlanding with a heavy RTT or roof top tent mounted on a heavy steel rack and with something like a heavy Decked storage system installed in the bed of a Jeep Gladiator, along with spare fuel, water and tons of gear, is in my opinion, what the ACCUAIR Suspension System was really made for. Essentially, carrying a lot of weight, without sagging and without compromising your ride quality. And, once unloaded, to still be at the exact same ride height! In this video, you'll get to see how ACCUAIR handles a heavy payload and automatically levels out your ride, simply by driving.

Man Eddie that is the most intuitive suspension i have ever seen . Boy Acu-Air could not have picked a better spokesman than you. You really covered all the bases in a way we all can understand.. thanks Eddie.
LOL - I'm humbled and flattered that you would say as much but I do need to clarify that I am not a spokesperson for ACCUAIR. The president of the company is a friend and simply asked if I could test out their rig and share what I find with people like you. Also, we have more videos coming your way that cover even more stuff 😎
before your vids I would have never even glanced at air suspension, but you have definitely peaked my interest.
LOL - not gonna lie, up until we were given the chance to test out the ACCUAIR system, I don't know I had ever given it a second thought. Glad to hear we're able to share what we're learning with you 😎
I am taking delivery of a 2024 Gladiator Rubicon X, and having the ACCUAIR system and 37"s installed before I drive it home in a couple weeks. This system is sweet.
Awesome and congratulations to you!
Such a great system. You guys are killing it with series. 👍
Awesome! Happy to hear you're liking what you're seeing with ACCUAIR. Not gonna lie, we really weren't sure what to expect with it but we're really finding that it's hard not to like.
You're doing a great job putting the Accuair Suspension to the test! They're dropping off a Wrangler for me in a couple weeks, I can't wait to get my hands on it!
Thanks Rob! We really do appreciate it and that's awesome that you'll be getting their Wrangler. I think you're gonna have a lot of fun with it and we can't wait to see your videos on it 👍
I carry an 850+ lb. gas engine lifted golfcart in the back of my Jeep Gladiator Mojave....... Love it !
These videos are very cool to see. Love your content! Keep up the great work
Thank you. We're truly happy to hear you've been enjoying our videos.
I'm liking this ACCUAIR system more and more.
Happy to hear our videos have been informative enough to interest you.
Pretty impresive, they really put a lot of thought into this system.
Not gonna lie, we weren't sure what to expect when we first took on this project and have been really impressed with what we've been seeing.
Thinking about adding a gladiator in the next year or so. The more of these videos I see, the more I think this would be a great system to incorporate into a stock vehicle. The features are great. If the durability matches, a very viable solution.
Awesome! Glad we could share this with you and hope you're able to get your Gladiator sooner than later.
Well done young man. Great video and comprehensive info on that air ride suspension. Been following this series and you hit this on the head. Great review showing the capabilities of the suspension.
Awesome! Glad to hear we've been able to show thing things we've learned about this air suspension system and that it's been helpful for you to see 😎
@@wayalife indeed, well done.
This is exactly what I need for my JKU
The kit for a JK will be coming out by the end of the month :)
@@wayalife great information, thank you!
Great series so far. Thanks for sharing your experience & thoughts. Valuable for sure.
Glad to hear you're enjoying the series and happy to hear you're finding the information to be valuable. 😎
Great system. I'm always amazed at the sound and video quality of your videos. You are either an audio-visual professional, or you have a great team doing all that. 🤙🏻
LOL - Cindy and I are truly humbled and flattered by your kind words. That said, making videos is not something either one of us had ever imagined doing. Here is a video that briefly talks about how we got started in all this ruclips.net/video/zzf-L12frvI/видео.html
@@wayalife Wow! That was a great compilation of your 10-year journey (15 years now). When I said "You" in my comment, I meant you and your wife, because we know how close and how well you two work together. Do you guys ever come down to Florida? There are really two big Jeep events in Florida: Jeep Beach in Daytona Beach (I'd have to check for specific dates this year) and Jeeping with Judd in Polk County Florida (which will happen in a few days (24-26 Feb). If you guys ever do, let us know; we would love to meet you. Congrats on your 15 years and keep moving forward!!!🤙🏻
Glad you enjoyed the video and hope to make it out your way some day :)
This suspension is very versatile...great for the camping or trailer towing enthusiasts.
This is definitely what I think it's made for.
Definitely a pretty darn cool system.
Awesome! Glad you're liking what you see 😎
Semi trucks have done it for decades. It’s not a surprise that you can do it in your little jeep.
Absolutely amazing content, thank you for sharing!
Now please look into Liquid Spring! :)
LOL - glad you enjoy our videos.
Brilliant
Glad you like what you see :)
Will just Chime in with all the other Comments… Yeah it’s a pretty Awesome system … Too many ++++’s and few - - - ‘s 👍
Without question, the biggest negative is the cost. Otherwise, I think for the average guy or gal who doesn't need the biggest baddest rock crawler or pre-runner and just wants a rig that can carry varying degrees of weight automatically and have adjustable heights at the push of a button... this kit is really something to consider.
I need to swap out my teraflex 3.5 for this !
Well, this kit is more expensive but I think you would like it better.
@@wayalife I have parking height restrictions, a heavy overland rig,
and a short wife ;) ---
Well, this would be perfect for both. :)
I too have the Teraflex 3.5 and really actually love it but this system is starting to really grow on me. Ditto on the short wife as well.
Reputable ambassador as always.
Thank you. Happy to hear you finding our coverage of ACCUAIR to be informative.
Very impressed with what I've seen, my only question is when you are done will you do an install video?
That, I don't know if I can do and mainly because my Gladiator is already built up.
Tires will squat also. You need to measure from the rim to give an accurate number for the suspension compensation.
LOL - Yes, you are correct.
Awesome job Eddie, do you know if this setup will work on a diesel glad? I have a friend buying one soon and I recommended this. Thanks and great work
Unfortunately, not at this time. The location of the fuel tank prevents it from being bolted on. However, I do know that there have been guys who've made it work and that ACCUAIR is working on a way to make it work as a kit as well.
👍
That’s an awesome setup and sure makes it difficult for a fella like me to stay away from a Jeep dealership.
LOL - glad you're liking what you're seeing :)
@@wayalife Very much so thank you.
Ok ok take my $$ 😂😂
LOL - glad to hear you like what you see :)
I would like to hear what this system would cost in a 2 door jeep. Yes I know its not a heavy hauler but the leveling is amazing and I'm sure it would help the ride a bunch
Unfortunately, a kit for a 2-door is not available at this time. This is mainly because there is no where to put the air tank and compressor. However, I am told they are trying to work on something.
This is a pretty cool mod. Awesome video. Did you move to Florida?
LOL - nah, ACCUAIR is located in Florida. This is their Jeep and they're just allowing us to test it out.
@Wayalife nice. I had to install Evo springs to get rid of the sag í the rear of my Gladiator. I love this option too.
Installing new springs is pretty much the only thing you can do without something like this. Granted, it's still probably cheaper but this kit does afford more options.
@@wayalife I've been eye balling the Clayton 3.5" Overland lift on my Gladiator with the Falcon adjustable shocks.
Hi Eddie, has this system cross-link valves? On my Land Rover with air suspension, while offroading the control module opens a valve to link the air bags of the same axel, so when one side is going to be compressed in a twist, the air in the compressed air bag is pushed into the other one on the opposite side extending the suspension in order to gain more travel and traction. Equalizing the pressure of the bags (via these cross-link valves) improve furthermore the ride comfort on rough terrain.
Each air piston is controlled by individual solenoids. If you haven't seen it already, here is a video of how it does out on the rocks. ruclips.net/video/GKZ-uwINK2k/видео.html
hella expensive, but it's worth it if you gotta have a cool jeep with lift on demand as desired and automatic ajusting.
It's definitely not cheap but this kit does offer a lot of options.
Do you think your 2 door roof hoist method will work for your gladiator?
My Mojave is too tall to fit in my garage but I found a shop crane that should do the trick. Im thinking of using a similar roof hoist setup that you made for your 2 door 🙂
I don't see why not.
Hey Eddie one quick question. How noisy is the compressor? My kids would be sitting in the back seat and one of them is pretty noise sensitive. And how often does it tend to run?
Thanks
On a Gladiator, the compressor is located under the far rear passenger corner. You can hardly hear it when it's on and it really only comes on when you go to a taller setting after being down low. Aside from that, it just comes on for a few seconds far and few between.
Did I miss a video where you bought another Gladiator, or is that a test rig you've been entrusted with?
This is ACCUAIR's Jeep. They've provided it to us to test it out and share our experiences using it with people like you :)
Does this allow for a gvm upgrade at all? This would be amazing if legal and available in Australia.
Low on road and lifted off road over the hard stuff
Unfortunately, I don't know but I would have to guess that you'd have to speak with your government about it.
Lmao watch out! Heavy Haul Jeep coming through! Equivalent to 4 people inside sitting! Give this guy a proper heavy load escort please!
LMAO - maybe try watching the video before posting.
Can you use the air suspension at stock height. And how Lowe can it go? Because I am in a wheelchair and need to transfer into my Jeep? And also I have an eco diesel rubicon gladiator2021 will this work?
You can lower the Jeep to it's bump stops and you can see it here ruclips.net/video/EuHdSR_7nqA/видео.html
Unfortunately, they do not make this kit for a diesel or at least, as a bolt on option.
Would it be equal to or greater than the mojave suspension in terms of ride quality?
I don't think the ACCUAIR system was made to be or even compete with something like the suspension system that the Mojave comes with. In the end, the air pistons are high tech springs and the shocks, as nice as they are, are just good monotube shocks. The Mojave comes with really nice bypass shocks and for driving hard and fast across the desert, I would say that the Mojave still offers a better ride. What I would say is that this system rides better than my stock 392 suspension system.
How does it do offroad at extreme articulation? How do you set the control arms and track bar to center the axles if you're always adjusting height?
Look for the previous video
This video may show some of what you're wanting to see ruclips.net/video/GKZ-uwINK2k/видео.html
And, this video might answer some of what you're wondering about ruclips.net/video/EuHdSR_7nqA/видео.html
Would accu air work with towing as well? I know the towing capacity has something to be desired.
Actually, this is where ACCUAIR probably shines the most. We will try to do a video on this once winter thaws out a bit but their air suspension makes towing so much better.
I have a 392. How do you think air suspension would do? Also I have been looking those TIS rims. What offset do you have?
Unfortunately, I don't think a kit is made for the 392 or at least, in terms of a direct bolt on kit. This is due to the exhaust system getting in the way. But, I suppose just about anything could be made to work and I think it would do well. The wheels have -12 offset
@@wayalife Thank you Eddie.
Can the accuair be used as an auto level when setting up camp when overlanding?
The system auto levels when driving 25 mph or more BUT, you can manually adjust each corner to level yourself out and with ease.
I"m thinking about getting this system, question is... can I still run my fox 2.5 shocks?
So long as they are the correct length both compressed and extended, I see no reason why you couldn't.
Will it work when crossing deep water combined with sub-zero temps.
Deep water crossing, no problem. The breather intake is located on top of the radiator. Combined with sub-zero temps... hard to say for sure. ACCUAIR does offer provisions for cold weather and you'll get to see some of this in an upcoming video but that might be a bit much.
Hi. I just wanted to know the Fab Four stubby bumper fog lights. What model are they and are they connect to fog light (OEM) connector?
The fogs are factory and they really don't work worth anything due to the fact that they sit behind square holes. I think you'd be better off installing something like square Rigid or something like it.
@@wayalife do rigid come with connector to Jeep factory fog light harness?
I don't think so. I think with most aftermarket lights, you have to wire things up to make it work.
So since the jeep payload is 1600 lbs, what are we talking about "unofficially"? I'm really interested because I plan on building a custom camper that replaces the bed and any indication would be helpful to figure out how sturdy I can make it.
"unofficially", they've tested it out with way more weight than 1600 lbs. But, just because the suspension can hold the weight doesn't mean that the vehicle can or should.
Would be interesting to see if the weight difference between the stock suspension and ACCUAIR system improves or reduces payload and by how much.
I want it for 2022 gladiator rubicon
I think that would really make for a nice setup.
Is it possible to lower the system to the stops and drive forward into a garage (and then back out) without the suspension trying to raise itself above the bump stop height? Does that hold even if the Jeep has sat for a bit and then restarted? Thanks.
As mentioned in this and other videos we've made regarding this suspension system, you can drive on ANY of the settings including on the bumps so long as you do NOT exceed 25 mph. At 25 mph, the system will automatically raise your Jeep back to the default #2 setting. I would imagine that you'd be driving a LOT slower pulling into or out of a garage. If you turn off your Jeep, it will stay on the bumps but when you start it up, the suspension will raise up to the default #2 setting. If you set it to #1, it will stay at #1 even if you start your Jeep.
@@wayalife - thanks. And, thanks for the quick reply. We are looking at getting a Gladiator and putting on AluCab Canopy Camper on it and have been thinking this suspension set-up might solve several concerns. I was wondering if, as a bonus, I might actually be able to park in my garage - even with the Alu-Cab. Based on my garage height and best guess as to height, on the bump stops, it might just work. Not a requirement, but it would be nice!
Can you drive a bit lower at highway speeds and get a bit better MPG?
Yup, you sure can and the system is designed specifically to do just that. Just run it on setting 1.
any comments/opinions on running this setup in rainy weather/snow salted roads, etc.. ???
Rainy weather is not an issue. We've been running it in the snow all winter and haven't had any issues with cold if that's what you mean. Salted roads, we don't have that where we live but ACCUAIR tells me their air pistons will survive it.
Any chance of more videos on MOTECH?
Oh yeah, there's only so much we can do at a given time. But, they're coming.
@@wayalife can’t wait. Great video. There is so many options out there.
@@wayalife have you heard of 74weld? I saw a video on RUclips explaining the set up. Basically you unbolt the hub and bolt on this device 74weld calls a portal. It allows you to gain 3” of clearance with no lift plus gives you a gear reduction.
This has really peaked my interest.
I am sure I missed it, but how much is this system?
Edit..just saw it. 7k plus install. Not terrible. I noted it is not available for e torque.
Unfortunately, it is not available for etorque as of now but I do know that ACCUAIR is working on a way to make it work.
Gladiators don't come in etorque.
@Michael correct, but this system is offered for JL Wranglers as well.
Sir This system allows the gladiator to enter the rubicon trail...? ?
With 4.5" of lift and 37" tires, you can run the Rubicon in a Gladiator.
@@wayalife thank you sir
I am almost feeling that a regular spring suspension is inferior.
I don't think this kit is for everyone but for the guy or gal who does a lot of overlanding or wants or needs to carry a lot of weight on and off, this system just offers a lot more options that a standard spring suspension just can't hold a candle to.
@@wayalife I'm curious about the shortcomings.
@Olaf Kithau Well, first and foremost, the cost is probably the biggest shortcoming for most people. But, I get your question and for me personally, I'd have to say that the brains - the technology that makes this system so cool and useful, is the potential shortcoming. ACCUAIR is so confident in their air pistons that they'll warranty them for 100k miles. However, anything technology driven can also be the weak link - same is true of the Jeeps we drive. But, so far, I can tell you that we haven't seen any problems and we've racked up over 4k miles on this rig.
@Wayalife Yeah, I agree regarding limits of technology especially in the backcountry.
I have dealt with air bags while in the backcountry and there could be issues with airbags if the suspension extends too far. A leak could develop in a bag or airline. Then there's questions about how to change an airbag on the trail in event of a malfunction.
What redundancy exists if the control module malfunctions?
I like the system but I would need to know more about the functionality.
Just out of curiosity, have you had a chance to see our last video? ruclips.net/video/GKZ-uwINK2k/видео.html
From what I understand, the shocks would prevent the over extension of the air pistons. Also, each one is independently controlled by individual solenoids. If one were to fail or suffer a leak, the problem would be limited to just that one. I will have to ask/look into redundancies as that is a legit question.
I take it that the driving needs to be on flat ground? If 10% incline I take it the system wouldn't know or take that into account?
If it does be interesting to now 🤔 how
Actually, the auto leveling is speed sensitive. If you can get up to 25 mph, each piston will air up to where it needs to be to achieve default height. The brains behind it works off of both sensor position and psi.
Sir Can this system be used on jeep rubicon? ?
Yes. You can install it on a Jeep Rubicon.
@@wayalife thank you so much sir
I have delt with air suspensions for years on pretty much every class 8 truck on the road simple reliable self adjusting...as soon as they get "intelligent " run as it is simply engineers making themselves busy for no good reason
What happend to your whote gladiator
It's still at EVO getting some finishing touches done.
Nice, but $7000 dollars think I’ll pass and air up air bladders manually that cost $92
LOL - clearly, this kit isn't cheap and not for everyone but it's a far cry to try and compare these computer controlled air pistons to manually inflated air bladders.
I like Jeep videos not truck videos. Is the Dodge Dart coming up next😂
LOL - I missed the part where there wasn't a Jeep in the video but, whatever. This is RUclips and I'm sure there are a ton of other channels out there that will give you want you're wanting 👍
@@wayalife On a side note, have you heard of the problem where Jeep motors have an injector to hang wide open and ruin the motor because there is nothing to notify the driver this has happened? I hope you are running some form of injector cleaner such as Lucas through your stuff.
Sorry, can't say that I or anyone I personally knows or even anyone on the WAYALIFE forum has had an issue with this.
