Does a Lifted Jeep Gladiator Tow Well? Bringing Home a "New" CJ7 Wrangler Project!

- It was finally time to make the trip out east to pickup the CJ7 Wrangler that we bought a few years back. We looked at having the Jeep shipped, but prices were pretty crazy. So i hooked up the trailer to the Jeep Gladiator and off i went. The Jeep has quite a few modifications that can be found throughout the channel, and has been performing really well offroad. But i had never really tested the towing capabilities of the Jeep/Truck, and luckily this setup is well within the limitations of my Jeep Gladiator. In this video we talk some about the real world feedback while towing this setup. And the parts used to make sure it can still do all of this.
Lastly, its time to start taking a look at the CJ7 and see what all it needs!

So happy we have a CJ!! LJ, JT, and CJ are my top 3. Now what to do with it🤔
First thing...its NOT a Wrangler! ;)
Dude.
Dude.
Dude.
Your cousin should do all your channels music. So amazing.
His cousin wrote the song 🎶
They tow very well. Mine has 37s with 5.13 gears. I've pulled almost 7k with mine. As you mentioned....wouldn't want to do it on a fulltime basis but will do the job. Another great addition is a brake controller. Mopar makes one that is plug and play and fits right in dash. Works great.
Mine just has air lift 1000 bags cold air intake and tow 7200lbs toy hauler
Great video. Never had an issue with my HF Badlands Apex 12k winch. Food for thought.
Love to see the CJ coming onto the channel!
You not the only one i've heard complain about warn winch quality!
Great video as usual. And another Wow is how your kids have grown since your earlier videos. We don't own a jeep but we own a Power Wagon but we enjoy all experiences you and your wife both share
That is awesome. I have a 77 CJ7 that was pretty much a barn find. I slowly rebuilt every system and upgraded and modified it. Now I daily drive it. I love the CJ's tons of love for the classic Jeeps.
I have the same set up and just towed our 22ft pontoon i forgot to switch the shocks to the stiffer setting. It did tow pretty well possibly air bags and a brake controller is needed next.
Awesome! Love to see a gladiator tow. I have a 21 stock JT rubicon and tow occasionally but not that far! Excited to see the CJ project!
Really appreciate you sharing the real world towing situation. I have finally acquired my 2020 JT Gladiator Rubicon and excited to see it perform like I hoped it would. Especially, when built like you have done.
Harbor Freight makes a very good winch which cost much less than your Warn while exceeding its performance.
Absolutely love the videos, wish you posted more but makes sense working and editing takes a lot of time to do. Keep up the good work!!!
I wish i still had my 1976 CJ7! It had a Clifford Research intake manifold, Doug Thorley header with a turbo muffler, Holley 550cfm carberator, Jacobs spark plug wiring... Just about everything a non mechanic person could bolt onto the jeep for more power and sound!
Thanks!
I have a stock JTR and I’ve been wanting to get a small travel trailer. It won’t weigh anywhere close to what you were towing. It’s nice to see a real world review of the towing capabilities. Thanks for the video.
In Europe we are towing about 7700lbs (3,5t)with the diesel gladiator without problems, its also the legal limit.
I also have a fairly stock JTR. Last year I moved from CA to NC and towed about 4500lbs across the country with no issues. Most of that was done in the snow. Your truck will do fine
Reminds me of when my friend with a 3.6 ram towed my non running ton swapped 87 after I bought it. Did fine on flat, but struggled up the hills of west Virginia, and trailer sway was a little rough as well as the coils sagging. Got around 13.5 mpg total
Both hands on the wheel! Your hauling precious cargo!
Reece Hitches probably has a front hitch frame for the Gladiator. So that you can use a ball coupler on the front. Helps with directing a trailer up a steep incline with lot better steering direction.
I’d toss that Warn winch.
Ben, I think you should do a Raptor Liner video where you Raptor Line that CJ in a nice metallic blue! I know there are other raptor liner videos out there but your videos are awesome and I know you would give good step by step directions and an honest take on the product. It would also give that CJ some new life…on the outside!
Looking forward to the CJ build and the rest of the stuff… love the work and keep up the incredible content!!
Just watched your video again after a while and holly crap you've lost lots of weights.. Looks like a different person 😂
Just pulled my 20’ flatbed with my 22 Ecodiesel and it pulled it with no problems. The trailer is about 6-7k pounds unloaded. I did notice for the first few minutes after unloading it, the springs were decompressing and making a loud creaking noise on bumps, but it quickly went away.
That Slate Blue dash pad is worth some $$$
My badlands apex wench never gave me a single issue and I used it heavily pulling cars and trucks onto my gooseneck
Awesome video. that was scary pulling that Jeep on to the trailer.
I would love to see you install and test the 4 GEAR ULTIMATE JEEP PORTAL on one of your Jeeps. Thanks
Congrats on the CJ7. Looking forward to see what you guys come up with on it.
A restoration-mod. Looks like a decent survivor there. Looks like you got your modded models covered. I have a 1971 CJ6 that’s a time capsule and I would have it any other way.
Excited for CJ content. I'm building a 79 golden eagle.....
great vids on THE JEEP gladiator , will like all vids❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
You should head over to Harbor Freight and pick up a Badlands Apex 12k synthetic winch…. It’ll bolt right in where the Warn is wasting space and you get wireless controller, oh, and it’ll work.
I'm not sure if you own one, but I just noticed that you just need a YJ to have a royal flush (CJ, yj, LJ/TJ, JK, JT/JL)!!!🤙
LOL I paid the big bucks 3 times for the Warn quality and was not happy as they all failed on minor loads. Now I just get the cheap harbor freight and all 4 haven’t failed me yet. But who knows nothing is perfect
Another project. Interesting.
Love the rims on the CJ7!
Cool 😎 that was Awesome 👏 how the jeep Gladiator can tow
Love my Badlands.😊
37’s and 5.13’s. Tow 5k occasionally. Tow 2k often(yes I realize that’s nothing). Tow’s as well as a midsize truck should.
Also, warns are trash. Hundreds of uses out of my badlands 🤷🏻♂️
HeyBen,. Love the videos... I was also surprised to see the Gladiator tow that much wght. Awesome! 👍. I have a Jeep Wrangler JL.... No Lift......Haven't towed anything yet..... Makes me wonder how much it would do....
Most full size Ram trucks get the same mileage with the same load.
Man I love your vids and have been following you for a few years now and cant wait till the next vid comes out...I caught a vid you did 4 years ago when you put the Magna flow under your JK and i spotted the lights on the bottom and was wandering what kind of lights those are cause they are pretty big compared to the lights I have considered putting under mine....they seem like they could put off light like a headlight lol
I’ve never had a single issue with my badlands 12k warn seems to be an issue
Dang Bro you're losing a lot of weight. Looking good. What's your secret? 😂
I just ordered a smittybilt x2o gen 3 for my gladiator I was between it the warn evo and apex. But the smittybilt was on sale for $595 so I had to get it. Heard too much bad about the evo like the trouble you had
Nice one!! Yooo you've lost so much weight eh? Big time!
Great video 👍🏻
You going to put a hemi in the cj
Tarheel Jeep CJ . What dealership it came from ? Hurricane Jeep I live western of Drexel NC glad to see jeep took me to school in great choice Casey 🎉🎉 .
Love your channel!!! Semper Paratus…
I have the same intermittent problem with my Warn.! just got a Bluetooth for it which seems to help. Still not happy. Hope you find a fix that i can afford. LOL
im on 40s with a 6" lol and about to buy a camper wish me luck
Great video and very informative. It’s good to know that we can tow with our Gladiators if need be. Ben how much weight have you dropped? And any tips?
Your adjustable hitch ball setup - is that a Curt brand? If not, what brand is it? Also, you mention a 3.5" (?) lift on the Jeep. Could you have done just as well with a less expensive, less range of movement (fewer holes) setup? I'm looking at the Curt Slim Adjustable Channel Mount with Dual Ball (2 in. Shank, 10K #, 3-3/4 in. Drop). Just picked up a '21 Mojave Gladiator which has a "stock" lift height and stock 33" tires. I plan to go up to 35" tires when these 33's wear out, and modify up to no more that a 1" to 1.5" lift. I'm thinking I won't need any more than the 3.75" drop on my hitch setup.
amzn.to/406gURq. I’m sure with a small lift and 35s you wouldn’t need the full height range, however it’s nice to have. I’ve used this hitch multiple times since this video and it’s holding up well. No complaints here, and the adjustability is nice as well since I’ve let other buddies borrow it.
What happened to the winch? Overheat? Fuse? Im looking at winches, ive heard the harbor freight is decent (swap the cable to synthetic).
you should put a little VW diesel in it!
Can you increase the payload capacity of the truck itself with a lift? Not concerned about tow rating that don't change since it is governed by braking capacity.
How is that trail dash
Will you be going to the Tennessee Jeep rally on April 14th-15th?
I want to know what is up with your Warn. The M12000 on my Power Wagon is in the same condition. It clicks both directions, but no motor action.
How do you like the diamondback cover? Im looking to be able to carry my 39" spare on top of it for when we do camping trips/road trips wondering how it's worked out for you
Dang bruh..been a minute…did you loose weight!, nice look..
I'm looking to trade my JK 2dr for a Gladiator. I have two kids around the same ages as yours, and am curious how well it works for toting kids around? Obviously, it will be a step-up from my JK, but I wanted to see what your real experiences are like.
What MPG do you normally get on the highway? What was the problem with the Warn winch? Are you guys at EJS this year?
How do you like that bed cover?
I love it! Sometimes it’s annoying because I can’t fit large things in the bed easily, but the benefits outweigh that.
Any updates on the trail dash 3?
It’s been doing great. The tunes are noticeable but not substantial, but more pep and I enjoy having the readout for gauges
I’m not trying to be an asshole, but it is “in regard” or “regarding” not “in regards”. Regards or kindest regards is a closing for letters or emails. You can also use it like telling someone to give their mother your regards (thoughts).
I used it incorrectly most of my life, but have recently been corrected.
What happen to the YJ you dragged home awhile back?
It’s still sitting here lol. It’s going to be a big project, and it can wait as it’s not a huge priority. A lot of the stuff is there to build a cool old school rig
@@JKGearandGadgets awesome, I’m a YJ nerd so I’ve been waiting haha. If you need parts or anything holler at me
Ive been away for a bit, man you have lost some lbs.
Oh please don't cut that thing up. I have one I will trade you if you need a crawler.
Nothing is wrong with warn winches it’s called you lack of maintenance and usage
What maintenance should I have done to the internal solenoid?? Thank you for all of your help 😘
@@JKGearandGadgets use it not let it sit among many other things
@@spencermorrow2899 How often? Daily? Monthly? Semi-Annually? I've used it multiple times lol. "Among many other things"???
Give up on warn. Get you an badlands Apex. Also they tow terrible. My brother has a 2023 overland and it’s hot garbage.
You lost allot of weight
