i always work on my rudiments, with the mentality of playing them even better than the last time, work on the fretboard mastery with the intervals and that stuff, voice leading... :)
Funny, at the moment I mainly practice what seems to be the 6th and 7th exercices you talked about in this video. Recognising the degree I am playing without looking at the fretboard. I do that over a single major or minor chord vamp. I like it a lot 😊
There are no mistakes when you a gifted virtuoso like yourself. Jazz isnt my 1st go to but when you do it, i love it. Its crazy the influence I get from watching your vids
"Their are no mistakes"...I chuckled at this comment. Unfortunately it doesn't usually work that way for many of us. I dig the sentiment though, exploration within our harmonic spectrum.
Cheers from Norway. Thanks to Paul, I now have another fantastic channel with excellent content. Thank you Rotem. You are a great teacher and easy to understand. All the best, Eivind B.
Hi Rotem, I just "found"you on RUclips! I have played for decades and still have a lot to learn. I find that you are an extraordinary teacher giving me so much. I am looking forward to study all your videos and be a patreon - wish you lived next door in stead of N.Y.
Most teachers do not actually teach dynamic in lead playing. i really understand how soft and all the other variations in a complete solo would be helpful with an emotional interpretation of a song. Very interesting concept. Thanks for the lesson.
This was a VERY good video. I never expected you to mention the body. I was just thinking about this the other day. Not in regard to tension though. I find, that when I allow my body to move, to become expressive while playing, I play SO MUCH better. I have also found myself swinging my head back n fourth sometimes, and did not even know I did this, or make facial expressions, like I do during certain passages in tunes? Thx again. On another note Sivan, I just checked your bio and saw you graduated from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University. I had no idea you were from Israel. I bring this up because I was in Israel with my wife in Oct/2019. I noticed there was a VERY high caliber of jazz musicians there, even on the street busking. I saw an unbelievable violinist busking, and shredding out Paganini runs. There is so many great Israeli jazz musicians, and not just guitar players, one I'll mention is Avi Shai Cohen. His song REMEMBERING, is so good, and theres a section of the song - A Minor, A minor/G, F# diminished, e7 - that is great to improvise over.
I've been doing what you are calling color exploration for a few months now, and it's definitely opening doors to whats possible. It's all about finding what you can get away with, I love that exercise!!
Most of these are new to me, thanks for sharing them! I'm really practicing hybrid picking at the moment, it has already enabled me to play things which were previously impossible. It's great to keep learning and trying new things.
Brilliant, brilliant video man. I think I found you through GMA, maybe not, but its only been a couple weeks I've known of you and you really do have a gift for conveying useful ideas that are sometimes overlooked. good man
thanks Rotem. i pratice some of that (on pretty basic side) on flamenco sketches: no "outside" trick, but some exceedingly wonderful 'in-side' note with care about tone, dynamic, slow feel heartfelt.
You’d make me the happiest dude on earth if you could describe how you use delay, what are your delay settings? Is it usually set to tempo? Dotted 8th? Just a non tempo quick repeats used as a kind of reverb? Your tone haunts me :)
Also one of the best exercise is to be sure that you are breathing continuously while playing (not holding breath). Because you are a master when your breath rhythm isn't effected by anything.
Great lesson Rotem, I love 💕 stuff like this that gets you centered and real with the instrument. I like to alternate harmonics from the 9 fret to the 12 fret using 3 string blocks and muting the middle string, you know that one? Sounds like an angel harp!
I am enjoying your videos just found your Chanel, I love the deep listening over a drone centre keep up the great work Rotem I am definitely going to check out some of your exercises.
Rotem. I practiced what yoi suggested amd found the E note in all spots of the fretboard. I did a short practice and then found a sustaining E chord on youtube amd played soloing and chords throughout the neck....big difference for me. I will be using this excercise everyday. Thank you again
Hello from Portugal! Thank you so much for your videos! I am in love with your right hand! 😊😁 What do you say about those guitar players that use the pinky finger as an “anchor” to their right hand? Is it a good technique?
Hi Rotem, thank you for a great video. You draw attention to some crucial yet often ignored aspects of developing musicality, not just chops in your guitar playing. Appreciate it :)
It's late but I know what I just watched is my idea of playing! My friends tell me l play good but sometimes wonder if it's because they are close friends. But I know some days it sounds great and other days it's a struggle. Barely ever get to play with others just back tracking and I'm grateful for that and I will be listening to your vids! I'm Subscribed
I'd love to watch a video where you talk a bit about your guitar and your tone. Alternatively, a video about the "picking-and-fingerstyle-method" would also be very interesting. Love your content ✌🏻
I strongly agree with being aware of the body point! I don’t know why but when I focus, my tongue tend to push against my teeth to the point that it hurts after hours of practice. I’ll keep that in mind thanks!
Love your channel Rotem! you’re mindblowing player and teacher, what are you doing in number 6 with The chord? i mean, when you play The chord still sounding like forever, it’s a pedal or something? Love your guitar sound too!!
Hey i discovered you recently and you are such a great enrichment for me and my guitarskills! I have two questions for you: 1. Is it possible to get lessons from you? Like once a month, via skype or something. Paid obviously. 2. Which effect pedal are you using in exercise 6 to hold the chord while you play over it? Thank you and have a nice day!
What cool exercises are you working on?
Relaxing my body when im holding my guitar
I'd definitely try singing the notes so my ears and fingers will remember
i always work on my rudiments, with the mentality of playing them even better than the last time, work on the fretboard mastery with the intervals and that stuff, voice leading... :)
Use silence ! Can't feel it when i'm blablablaing with the instrument !
Great work !
Funny, at the moment I mainly practice what seems to be the 6th and 7th exercices you talked about in this video. Recognising the degree I am playing without looking at the fretboard. I do that over a single major or minor chord vamp. I like it a lot 😊
you are so underrated . the paul davids video will probably expose thousands of guitarists (like me ) to you. and you deserve that recognition man
thanks so much man. much love.
Same!
I concur with that 👍🥳
Paul sent me, too! Glad to learn from a new perspective 😘
Totally agree!
Rotem is so underrated. He's excellent both as a musician and a teacher. He deserves a million subs.
Was not expecting such a fresh take on guitar exercise. Rather yogic.
🙏 happy it's feeling fresh
There are no mistakes when you a gifted virtuoso like yourself. Jazz isnt my 1st go to but when you do it, i love it. Its crazy the influence I get from watching your vids
with that tone literally anything sounds like jazz
lol :)
RUclips is full of people telling you "10 secrets" "the 5 rules" and I totally hate them but this is pure GOLD, thanks man!
Subscribed :)
oh man!!
Nice comment but why do you totally hate them????nonsense
I see a lot of pointless guitar teaching videos but this video is so great and different!
This video is gold! Thanks man! Cheers!
Incredible musician AND teacher.
Good god that guitar sounds like absolute heaven! What a tone!
you inspire so many people! thanks a lot for your work and your lessons !
Brother I am going to practice everything you have to offer. I’m sold
"Everything is beautiful" plays a beautiful chord progression and sets my mental bar of how it should sound pretty high.. D:
💜
"Their are no mistakes"...I chuckled at this comment. Unfortunately it doesn't usually work that way for many of us. I dig the sentiment though, exploration within our harmonic spectrum.
Albert Lee right hand approach. Enjoyed this. Very important for beginners or self taught who have gotten into a rut.
Yup tension and stress points! My major and endless nemesis !
Cheers from Norway. Thanks to Paul, I now have another fantastic channel with excellent content. Thank you Rotem. You are a great teacher and easy to understand. All the best, Eivind B.
I appreciate your patience as a teacher, it shows me how important it is to focus and listen to what I am practicing.
Thanks!! 💙
binge watching your videos man. So good 👌🏼👌🏼
Your video with Paul Davids actually inspired me to start learning jazz guitar instead of focusing on bluesy rock
I discovered you today and it's been a life changing moment ✨
This type of ideas reminded me of the approach that Julian Lage have when it comes to viewing/playing guitar. SO GOOD !!
Thank you!! 🙏 Julian is a beast.
Playing the same note over and over in octaves is a game changer for me! Thankyou so much!!!
🤘
Dude! I love all your stuff man! 💯💯💯
אח יקר, שמח מאוד שגיליתי לאחרונה את הסרטונים שלך. בידיוק הרגשתי במקום לא משהו עם הנגינה שלי וכבר הסרטונים שלך עוזרים לי מאוד.
Toda! 🙏 happy to hear man
Just wanted to thank you Rotem for inspiring me to start listenning to Jazz. Your records are so beautifully crafted.
Hi Rotem, I just "found"you on RUclips! I have played for decades and still have a lot to learn. I find that you are an extraordinary teacher giving me so much. I am looking forward to study all your videos and be a patreon - wish you lived next door in stead of N.Y.
Your playing is so damn inspiring. Thanks a lot for your videos, man.
Thanks Pablo! 💙 much love
Most teachers do not actually teach dynamic in lead playing. i really understand how soft and all the other variations in a complete solo would be helpful with an emotional interpretation of a song. Very interesting concept. Thanks for the lesson.
I love your classes,I usually practice playing 1 single note up/down and checking how it sounds in every chord.
That was a fly!! Hahahahaha this guy is awesome, I play saxophone and I love to apply all his guitar advices on saxophone
Great amazing content. Very glad to have found you
I needed this, thank you!

How can Rotem only have 50K subs? it's crazy! For the music alone, he should have more.
Great exercises! 1, 4, & 7 speak to the areas where I've sensed the biggest improvements in my song writing. Thank you so much for sharing.

Always a great video!!
That was awesome and excellent for me....only been playing electric guitar for two years and acoustic for 6...i will apply for both. Thank you
🤘
Rotem. I practiced what yoi suggested amd found the E note in all spots of the fretboard. I did a short practice and then found a sustaining E chord on youtube amd played soloing and chords throughout the neck....big difference for me.
I will be using this excercise everyday.
Thank you again

Ill try :)
Nice man!
Im gonna tell everybody i was here before you blew up 😁🤙🏻 great content mate
Lol, thanks mate!! ❤️
Thanks again, Rotem!
😊
Really enjoyed this video. I'm curious, why do you have the "strapping" (whatever that is) around the headstock?
I strongly agree with being aware of the body point! I don’t know why but when I focus, my tongue tend to push against my teeth to the point that it hurts after hours of practice. I’ll keep that in mind thanks!
🤘yep. We gotta be aware
Very good Rotem! Music teaching ("instrument training") should (ought to) be a lot more about these kind of things!
🙏
Great! Thanks
Awesome lessons this was so helpful, I wonder what kind of pedal you use for the pedal notes?
Looking for the same information !! Don't know how to do that whith my looper !
Electro harmonix cathedral pedal does that effect (infinite sustain).
I will definitely try some of these. Thank you!
❤️
Recognised you from the Paul David's video. Liked and Subscribed straight away.
Thank you!! ❤️
Hi Rotem, a hello from a brasilian fan.
🤘🤘🤘🤘❤️
Love your channel Rotem! you’re mindblowing player and teacher, what are you doing in number 6 with The chord? i mean, when you play The chord still sounding like forever, it’s a pedal or something? Love your guitar sound too!!
cool ...simple stuff is the most fulfilling
Really good exercises :) thanks
Sure thing!
Best sub I made for 2021!
❤️
You make beautiful music that takes great skill! So much music today has no soul or depth!
🙏 I'm trying
