I consistently notice how no one cleans the top of the head and behind the ears. I know cats and small kittens don’t like water in the facial area and the risk to the inside of the ears but dirt, even if no signs of fleas, can reside on the top of the head. I have seen some wash the head, face, around the eyes, in the ear lobes and the back of the ears with a washcloth. A slightly soapy washcloth can clean all these areas and a wet, free from soap, washcloth can be great for rinsing. This way the entire cat is bathed properly and free from dirt and any would be flea or tick infestation.
We have actually been harassed online for being “too rough” or using “too much water” but yes it is important to clean your kitten’s entire head carefully ❤️
@@TheStumpyBrigade Too rough? Really? I thought you showed excellent patience, care, and gentleness with this kitten. Great job and the kitten was comfortable as well.
For my kittens first bath i used my kitchen sink because it has the dual rinse and using the shower setting with slightly warm water and rinsing her down. I hand dried with a towel because i felt a hairdryer is just a bit much for a kitten.
Once they get older, cats usually keep themselves relatively clean. Kittens may need more frequent bathing if they are having potty problems (like when they are first rescued and are being treated for infections) or if they have fleas and need a flea bath. General rule would be of their fur is matted or if they smell then they might need a bath.
Use a blanket to dry them as completely as you can and give them a dry blanket or towel to snuggle in afterwards. It is also a good idea to get a pet warming pad or a small plug-in heating pad so that they don’t get too cold. If you do use a warming pad make sure they have access to it but that it doesn’t fill up their whole space so that if they get too warm they can go to a cooler spot.
Something gentle is recommended. They make cat specific shampoo that might be best but we also use baby shampoo preferably unscented which is much more widely available. WORST case scenario if you really need a shampoo (say for a rescue covered in insulation from being in a dirty abandoned building) use the blue unscented dawn dish soap in a pinch.
Normally you don’t need to bathe cats but sometimes when kittens are little especially if they don’t have a mother they need a little help until they are a few months old and have learned to do it themselves ❤️
He didn’t need his head washed! But if you do need to wash his head you should do that by gently sponge bathing them! Don’t put their heads under the water because it could cause ear infections and be scary for them! ❤️
He didn’t need it at the time but yes if you need to wash their face you should do that by gently sponge washing so you don’t get water in their ears, eyes or nose. ❤️
He didn’t need his head cleaned but if you need to do that carefully sponge wash around their face and eyes. Do not pour water over their head because it can cause ear infections and be very uncomfortable for them! ❤️
After 3 years you still respond, thank you.
We see all the comments and always try to respond when we can! ❤️

Non è stato lavato accuratamente io ho notato. Il micio era parecchio sporco. Penso che il primo bagno vada fatto da personale competente..

Nah when they are panicking they don’t mean to hurt you usually but when they are so little sometimes they need a little help getting clean 😂
