- Following wins in the Canadian and United States Grands Prix, Hunt stood only three points behind Lauda before the final race of the season, the Japanese Grand Prix. Lauda qualified third, one place behind Hunt, but on race day there was torrential rain and Lauda retired after two laps. He later said that he felt it was unsafe to continue under these conditions, especially since his eyes were watering excessively because of his fire-damaged tear ducts and inability to blink.
Rush is a 2013 biographical sports film centred on the Hunt-Lauda rivalry between two Formula One drivers, the British James Hunt and the Austrian Niki Lauda during the 1976 Formula 1 motor-racing season.

Underrated movie. Daniel Bruhl and Chris Hemsworth were both spectacular and did these two legends justice.
The wisest formula 1 driver I have ever known.
You’re Nikki lauda in disguise 🥸
This is the most romantic scene I've ever seen
A wise man can learn more from his enemies rather than a fool from his friends.
With Lauda out, James Hunt knows he has to finish the race in third place or higher to score enough points to win the world championship.
I love this movie
INCREDIBLE CINEMATOGRAPHY backed by HANS ZIMMER GENIUS.
He preferred losing the race rather than risking losing the love of his life. Sometimes, winning is not worth it.
Never repeat the same mistakes.
His bravery to stop racing and not make excuses impressed me as much as his bravery throughout his accident and his fight for life. He was the bravest of the brave in every way imaginable.
"Tell them the Truth".
Enough said!!!
Typical Niki Lauda
It was a hell of a statement to F1 at the time.
The reigning world champion, his face burned terribly from a wreck in a previous race in absurd weather conditions...make the choice not to provide the entertainment for the crowds, because it was too dangerous.
Epic
Epic scene❤❤
Chills
Name of the song on the soundtrack: “Lost But Won”. Says a lot..
Lancia 2000 mon père a la même depuis 1979
Voiture très rare
Nikki lauda made the right decision.
Is it really just me or I feel when James Hunt waved to Niki Lauda before the grand prix started, the way he looked at him kinda looked like as I could sense all that grudge or intensity of locking horns against one another just completely disappeared as if their hatred toward one another just stopped completely after Niki's crash and they started becoming friends afterwards?
Mutual respect and guilt on James' part probably played a huge part. When James realized the track really was dangerous and Niki got hurt so badly after trying to cancel the race. I feel like James really started to realize that Niki wasn't the arrogant jerk he thought he was and that he really was concerned for people's safety. You could tell James felt responsible but also what Niki said about him being equally responsible for him coming back. That's when they started to lose the animosity. It's a great film
Sigma
What is the meaning in success, if you can't live a healthy life.
And then he went on to marry someone 30 years younger than him.
It's his life not Some one else's.
"I don't want to kill myself again" -Niki Lauda
Eventhough Mr Lauda died, he died a MAN who happened to be a MAN Before he was racing cars
The only issue with this scene is the start of the race, it goes from 1:17-2:01, that’s almost 50 seconds of just the cars taking off from the start line. And there’s still a whole other part of the Fuji course. But after that, the cinematography makes this scene incredible, really showing the intensity of racing in the rain
I absolutely love that part of the scene. I wish it went longer! The tension it builds is incredible! You've got these insane astronauts, all alone, getting holes drilled into their visors, being strapped into a furious, psychotic machine which is trying to tear itself apart while being wished "good luck kid" with a solemn handshake ( and btw - everyone watching and everyone driving knows the same thing .... "I wonder which driver I'll never see again at the end of this race?" .... Meanwhile it's absolutely pissing down with rain, they can't see or hear much and it's just them, all alone, with all fears and ambitions fighting each other.... and then the wave flags and you can see the cars literally trying to shake themselves apart with the energy that's exploding out of them!! ... damn!
@@argiebargie1338 I get the tension, but for me the tension has built up the entire movie, and I’d want to see as much of the race as I could. But I can understand seeing it like that
I quite like how they dragged it out a little, and I honestly don't even remember it lasting long. The spinning wheels, the spray rising up, the cars slipping all over the place, and the knowledge of the consequences of crashing one of those old cars in the days before crash safety in F1 was all that well developed. Utterly electrifying.
This so hard and gagster
That's why He died aged 70 after a fullfilled life of success even after He retired from F1.
Well, it was his only way for his first wife. As indeed his eyes wasn't quick heal due the torrential rain.
He stopped not because of his wife! Its just the romantic dramatization in the movie. He woulndt even have started because of the rain. But he did because of the sponsors and salary. IDK but in those times it was something like “you have to start at least to get paid”.. so he did one round and got back to boxes. He did stop because of how dangerous it was. Butbhe did not stop because of the love of his life. Thats just a movie portraying love and bs. Had nothing to do with his his wife, going to pits and ending the race was purely monetary and safety decision.
Check the subtitles at 3.05 instead of eating his spray......
Don't repeat the same mistakes.
