No idea how this thing came out so poor, the emulation on PS3, PSP and Vita are great, it's pretty impressive stuff but this thing can't even manage PS1 games right despite being official. You're seriously better off buying a used PS3, lets you play real PS1 games or games off the PSN nevermind PS3 and possibly PS2 depending on the version of the console. You can even get a memory card reader for it!
Neither the PSP or Vita use emulation. According to TheFlow the Vita uses a native MIPS3000 option to run native, and of course that's what the PSP did as well.
@@jebe4563 I'm not sure what your point is, okay so they don't use emulation but instead they're using a native hardware solution. That only makes this situation look worse. Between the PS3's pretty darn good emulation and the PSP actually doing it via hardware and this thing being more expensive than a PS3 and possibly PSTV it doesn't make this thing look good, at all. It makes it look bad, really, really bad. From what I read, they are at least partially emulated. But the job is far better done as is the PS3 since they apparently hired the guy who made the bleem emulator back in the day. who knows if he's still there but he's clearly done a better job than slapping an emulator into a machine more powerful than a raspberry pi and failing to tune any of it.
@@nowonmetube I'm not sure what your point is. The console costs 100 bucks and many of these games if not all are on the PSN yeah? I did my own unboxing video for this on my channel by the way :) I'm looking forward to playing it. I have no complains for the system itself at all so far.... I understand the game lineup is odd, but I figured out that most the games are from the launch year for the system (1995), so it kinda makes sense....
I don't agree that using an open source emulator is worse than in-house. Nintendo's emulator cannot run its entire library. Non-nintendo emulators can. My issue isn't that they failed to reinvent the wheel - it's that they failed to provide adequate hardware, and that the software library included on it was lousy. And then charge 50% more than Nintendo.
Can you play your original PlayStation 1 discs on it? Or are you limited to only pre installed games like the ones shown in the video? If you can't play original PS1 discs i honestly don't see the point in buying this. But im not a gaming hipster so what do i know.
Also.for.filters and emulator options, plug in a usb keyboard and press 'esc'. Yes, that's a thing you can do and wasn't included normally in the main interface.
To help understand the PAL issue: If it was simply a Frames Per Second issue, you would barely/not notice a difference. The issue is more than European PAL consoles and televisions could only push out 50 frames per second, whereas most games were developed for NTSC regions (Japan & North America) at 60 Hertz/FPS. When 'optimising' for PAL regions, the maths is complicated, and developers could be lazy! Most of the time, rather than altering the game speed in code to make the game run 'faster' to compensate for the slower output of PAL consoles/televisions, they would simply leave the ROM as it is, meaning the game itself (rather than just the framerate) ran SLOWER - you have a 60FPS game being pushed out at 50FPS, so there is slowdown, in a single second there are fewer frames being displayed. It is not a framerate issue as we understand it now - you would barely notice the difference between 50fps and 60fps in modern games, where the image just looks choppier - it is because the game itself is running slower, approximately 17.5% slower. Sounds like a little, but the difference is certainly noticeable. Sometimes the only optimisation that was ever done was to music speed, as that's a far easier task than game speed. PAL/NTSC is no longer an issue, and is distinct from region locking (which is still active on some software, and is arguably a hangover from the PAL/NTSC days).
I should say - whilst PAL has a better vertical resolution and superior colour fidelity - for gaming, NTSC/60hz is objectively superior. There is no discernible reason why Sony included the PAL roms here. Beats me!
VERY boring menu damn, I readed that it was flat and uninteresting but like this? That’s a lot of “give me money for nothing you derps” from SONY. The list of games it’s incredibly missing some really good gems in the system. Poor care for SONY to play with the nostalgia... worst for them to made it worse selling this XD
... sony normally makes quality products? Thats why i know more people with broken SONY systems then working ones... it's also why Sony doesn't make any money outside of playstation
Hi, on the sony classic, DIGITAL FOUNDRY ,says it is a cluster fk, the games play badly glitching dropping frames, terrible frame rate, even blurry visuals!!!! wow sony fked up badly. even the psp plays these ps1 games better that this classic system
The PlayStation was one of the most successful consoles of all time with a huge library of games. This thing could have been so much more than what we got. I think what disappointed me about the PlayStation Classic was that Tekken 3 ran too slow. Because it's the PAL region game and not the NTSC-U version that runs at 60hz. I guess a good game on there is Ridge Racer Type 4 but I already have it digitally on the PS3. Same with Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid. But aside from those games, almost nothing there screams PlayStation. Intelligence Qube (I don't really know anything about that game so I can't really talk about it), Super Puzzle Fighter Ii, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six? Why not Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, games that scream PlayStation for damn sake.
I was so proud of you for taking the highroad in your last video, after everybody else being so negative. Focusing on the potential of the PS Classic and its hardware will be more productive.
@Mr Debex because they didn't give us the proper power supply. Just a USB cable. Stick that shit into your cell phone charger, not enough power, stick it in the wrong amp charger, like a quick charge 15 watt charger and it's dead.
@Mr Debex dude, stop trying to defend this shotty cash grab. If you spend 100 bucks on this thing, the proper thing to do is to give a proper power supply so you don't let the consumer ruin the product they just bought. Imagine buying a car but they only give the the battery cables, but not the battery, you then stick the wrong battery on and it dies, see I can pull stupid car analogies out too.
I sold all my rare Sega Saturn games a couple of years before the prices tripled, losing $2k in value. I sold all of my Bitcoin in the late summer of 2013, at nearly the lowest price that it is been ever since. At the time I got $1,700 if I had held it to the end of 2017 it would have been $600,000. ... but at least I canceled my PlayStation One Classic pre-order.

There's a logical reason for using an open source emulator. PCSX-ReARMed is PCSX, but optimized for ARM SoC and such. Having Sony recreate an emulator in-house wouldn't necessarily make things better. And because the emulator they chose is open sourced, they're open to improving it. Whether they actually did that, my guess would be that they didn't make major changes/improvements to the core. When it comes to why Sony didn't use PSP's or PSVita's emulator, there's a very good chance that the emulators are heavily fine tuned for their respective hardware. The same could be said for why they chose PCSX-ReARMed. They dropped the ball on the software side, big time.
The Vita ran on arm hardware. They could have chose different hardware if that would been better. There is no excuse for this rushed trash. There are chinese devices that run psx games better.
at the same time...i seem to recall hearing the actual ps1 chipset costs like...$10 these days, which is why the left it in the ps3 after removing the ps2 chipset to cut costs in later models....why emulate at all? why not just have it be an actual mini ps1 that runs off internal memory similar to what the ps3 does with games you buy off psn?
@@bryanmoberg8408 the ps3 does emulate ps1 on all models. Ps2 was native on early ps3 models but dropped from others. On top of that the company that made the original risc cpu in the ps1 no longer exists and its cheaper to go with a cheap arm cpu than to have a factory produce brand new chips based on an ancient architecture just to satisfy a niche audience.
This is bad PR for PCSX! I just did a search to confirm it was using an open source emulator and that someone didn't just assume based on the open source licenses menu option(a similar license page is also on the NES/SNES because of Linux/framebuffer library, and I think a sound library, but the emulator there is Nintendo's own). I wonder if Sony's plan is to give that emulator at a bad rap, PCSX should sue Sony for slander, as it appears that Sony purposely made the experience crappy here.
I like the system and all but resident evil 1 frame rate is a bit hard to get used to. It’s not that bad at least Sony put the one with the right soundtrack.

I didn't have any issues with Tekken 3 when I tried it. Too be fair I spent about 20 minutes playing the demo they had set up at Walmart. But I lived on Tekken 3 for a while as a kid and the psone classic version felt fine to me. I beat arcade mode twice in the time I did play it.
If this came with 2 duelshocks or just 2 analog's without rumble for cost reasons(maybe 1 analog, one reg for price),wifi enabled with a simple PSX store like the one on the Vita to enable more games to be added, and a free game a month like how PS plus does it would be cool, a better or more robust starting library, Sony emulation or however they did the pstv, ps portable systems, filters, possible online play with WiFi for games, profiles I think it would be amazing and that stuff I wanted it to be seems something Sony would do idk maybe I'm wrong. They could have benefitted so much by making more games to be added through a simple store, maybe even themes for old-school things, so much potential all for money was the case it seems.
Bro, i think you are using the green-screen wrong! ;) Congrats on getting so big by the way, remember when you were the best switch rumours guy around. :D
I believe if they release a PS2 classic with at least 30 games, 2 DualShock controllers, they add music and more gameplay options it would revival the mini consoles from other manufacturers. Sony needs to work on in-house emulator. I received my classic for free but don’t think I will play it much since I own a launch 60gb ps3 that plays all games from the ps1
🤔🤔 is the pacing issue you talk about only related to the games being at 50 Hz? We in Europe had the PAL standard back then and 50 Hz was what we had on TVs. I still think that this whole PS Classic is just crap though.

On my way to check out my best buy stock of the consoles, and cancel my preorder in person as I laugh my butt off
And to think the scalpers are trying to sell them at $140 and up...hah
Yeah same here, local bestbuy has like two shelves worth of these just sitting there with no line or demand for them.

Sony's goal was probably to make the ps1 classic as CHEAP as possible and give it a high price so that the profit from it its just bussines.

Damn the chinese.
He did mention it in this very video.
He broke it like a dumbass, plugged it into his switch. Lol
"You guys all have a homebrew community.........DONT YOU?!?!?!?"
You can even get a memory card reader for it!
nowonmetube You have unplayable versions with this piece of garbage, though. At least the old systems work.
nowonmetube That's where hacking comes in.
So, if you already have a PS3 then that is a far better value and experience. If someone were NOT to have this, then it's still a better option because-again the device will play the same PS1 titles and if they want PS3 titles and maybe even PS2 if they get the right model.
Also you get controllers with analog sticks, which some of these games work better with-also, better point, you can buy more than just the awful selection of games that are on this mess of a console.
So, more games that run better and have better control options. So, again I'm asking what's your point? This isn't a good product, PS3/PSP is.

This is just overall a DAMN INSULT, because the Original PlayStation was my FIRST Game Console EVER and Sony JUST DON"T CARE about the retro gaming community and fans of the PlayStation. And the PlayStation Classic is an INSULT to my childhood memories of the original PlayStation.
I just got one of these for $39.99 + Free Shipping on Ebay, and I have a silly question, and was wondering if you could help me out....I know I need a 5V adapter to play it (I haven't yet) and I already have a 9V Amazon Kindle Fire HD adapter.....can I use this adapter with the Playstation Classic, or do I need to buy a different 5V adapter for it?
I did my own unboxing video for this on my channel by the way :) I'm looking forward to playing it. I have no complains for the system itself at all so far....
I understand the game lineup is odd, but I figured out that most the games are from the launch year for the system (1995), so it kinda makes sense....
Got one. Imo, not too impressed with it myself. Getting rid of it pretty soon. I had my fun. I’ll stick with the NES/SNES and possible N64 Classic
SEGA Genesis Mini.
My Raspberry Pi does all this and A LOT more for less than half the cost
Go back under your roooooock.
Where did you buy it?
Can you play your original PlayStation 1 discs on it? Or are you limited to only pre installed games like the ones shown in the video? If you can't play original PS1 discs i honestly don't see the point in buying this. But im not a gaming hipster so what do i know.
If sega puts out a Dreamcast version and they put Mortal Kombat Gold I'll get it.
Hey, do you reckon they'll drop the price soon? I was thinking about buying one for my little cousins if they dropped the price a bit.

It started at $100?! Jeez, even $20 is too expensive.
It's so annoying how you go over the same menus and games over and over and barely show the other games on it. Thanks.
I'm guessing "ages 6 and up" was something printed on the original PS1 box.
You want a ps1 emulator? Buy a ps3
Did he ever do a video where he opened it up? I can't seem to find one.
... sony normally makes quality products? Thats why i know more people with broken SONY systems then working ones... it's also why Sony doesn't make any money outside of playstation
Sony are copy kings ... they’re sheep, and follow if something becomes popular. I’ve been a Sony gamer and never again.
Hi, on the sony classic, DIGITAL FOUNDRY ,says it is a cluster fk, the games play badly glitching dropping frames, terrible frame rate, even blurry visuals!!!! wow sony fked up badly.
even the psp plays these ps1 games better that this classic system
Straight up. This is not a good product 🙃
I wanna see a dreamcast classic, that would be insanely cool
I mean, you can't really be mad at people for not liking the console when it sucks.
Not mad. Just think hating is waste of time. Sony will sell them regardless.
Best to focus our efforts on hacking to make it better.

You're right Sony should be quality, but sometimes they royally fuck up.
Yeah, Dreamcast guy's died in 2 hours cause they didn't provide a proper power supply.
@Mr Debex because they didn't give us the proper power supply. Just a USB cable. Stick that shit into your cell phone charger, not enough power, stick it in the wrong amp charger, like a quick charge 15 watt charger and it's dead.
EpicJoe P Wait you don’t get a power supply with this?
@@richardaaron4454 no, just a USB cable, if you use a cell phone power supply, you need to make sure it's the correct wattage or it'll fry it.
EpicJoe P That is so weird.

The switch is actually a pretty durable and reliable system
Gee, who would have thought that sony would release a dissapointing product of nostalgia pandering.
Im surprised the hardware inside isn't just repackaged ps tv's to be honest.
at the same time...i seem to recall hearing the actual ps1 chipset costs like...$10 these days, which is why the left it in the ps3 after removing the ps2 chipset to cut costs in later models....why emulate at all? why not just have it be an actual mini ps1 that runs off internal memory similar to what the ps3 does with games you buy off psn?
@@plasmaoctopus1728 that would also be a better solution
@@bryanmoberg8408 the ps3 does emulate ps1 on all models. Ps2 was native on early ps3 models but dropped from others. On top of that the company that made the original risc cpu in the ps1 no longer exists and its cheaper to go with a cheap arm cpu than to have a factory produce brand new chips based on an ancient architecture just to satisfy a niche audience.
I guess even SONY underestimated the power of the original PlayStation.
I don’t think sony is known for it’s hardware now, xbox has better quality hardware but doesn’t have the exclusive games like PlayStation
Sony, I expected more from you.
That PS logo sound effect sounded dodgy as fuck compared to original

Nintendo does what's Sony don't
No, SEGA does with Sonydon't.
If this came with
2 duelshocks or just 2 analog's without rumble for cost reasons(maybe 1 analog, one reg for price),wifi enabled with a simple PSX store like the one on the Vita to enable more games to be added, and a free game a month like how PS plus does it would be cool, a better or more robust starting library, Sony emulation or however they did the pstv, ps portable systems, filters, possible online play with WiFi for games, profiles I think it would be amazing and that stuff I wanted it to be seems something Sony would do idk maybe I'm wrong. They could have benefitted so much by making more games to be added through a simple store, maybe even themes for old-school things, so much potential all for money was the case it seems.
Nintendo got it right because Nintendo actually gives a crap about their IP’s
Did they use all the pal versions of the games for this system?

Lol and now GS and other stores are trying to sell it for $40 cheaper.
I believe if they release a PS2 classic with at least 30 games, 2 DualShock controllers, they add music and more gameplay options it would revival the mini consoles from other manufacturers. I still think that this whole PS Classic is just crap though.
This thing has looked outsourced from the beginning. I have a hard time believing Sony would produce such a inferior product.
