I think I’ll just hunt for PS1 games on eBay since no one wants to make a classic console with internet connectivity and have access to a library of dlc
Yeah... cheapest copy of Intelligent Qube (US version) is $40. And why would someone want to create network access for classic consoles? So that 400 people can play on it a couple times a week? THINK Mcfly. THINK.
Yes, that’s exactly why. Classic consoles are selling for a reason, problem is it doesn’t have every game people want. There’s a huge market for classic games, and they should take advantage of it. That’s why a ROM website got shutdown and owes Nintendo $25 million. Companies don’t care if people play the game, they just want the sales. Currently, the majority of the gamers don’t finish video games, yet they’re more than willing to drop $60 to be one of the first to play it.
There is a huge market for classic games.... to be purchased by retro gamers so that they can be played one time and then nicely organized on a shelf behind their camera so that they are displayed for everyone to see in their review videos. There is not a huge market for classic games to be broadcast on channels and to have networks devoted to them. Classic games are novelties... new gamers do not want to sit around playing classic games every day. Only old gamers want to do that... and they are shrinking in numbers. And most old gamers get bored with it after a short period of time and then have to tend to real life stuff, like a job, or children. The gaming industry has always been marketed towards younger people. And younger people don't care about classic games. Game developers know this. They know all about the industry and how to make money and what to develop. But think about what you said... why should they spend money to work on updating old games when they can just wait a decade and then sue a ROM website? That's much easier. They spent $0 fighting ROMS for decades so they could then eventually sue the company for all of their coffers. THAT is smart.
@@sigma682 So? That doesn't matter. The majority of retro gamers don't want virtual games... they want physical copies of the games so they can display them on their shelves for everyone to see. And ROM sites provide more than just Nintendo games. GTA 1 sold 3 million copies. GTA 3 sold 15 million copies. GTA 4 sold 25 million copies. GTA 5 sold 70 million copies. So.... do you think it would be smart for Playstation to spend millions of dollars re-releasing GTA 1, or would it be smart for Playstation to spend millions of dollars releasing GTA 6?
To be honest, you don't have to buy it. Other youtubers canceled their preorders and did so before this news broke. Tell Sony you do not support their lack of care with this product. Giving them your money tells them that your okay with mediocrity.
His 1 purchase will have more influence than him not purchasing it unfortunately. His review can definitely prevent more than 1 other person from actually purchasing it.
@@Choc_rush No, he shouldn't buy one. If he does, he's telling Sony with his wallet that he approves of the product. He's already made several videos explaining to his audience why this thing sucks. I don't think a video where he actually plays it is going to make much of a difference in peoples' decision to get one at this point...we already know it's bad. Instead, he should put up a video announcing that he has decided not to buy one...that makes a more powerful statement then buying one and doing a review of it.
People that commented on here you can all download ps1 and other older console games online for free I repeat for free you don't have to go out and waste your money on these bullcrap classic consoles that's how they draw alot of people in that don't know the fact you can download these games on rom sites don't waste your money why pay for games and that came out 20 years ago when you can simply get em for free
Danny Richie I tried that with the Spyro games while waiting for the trilogy. They're unplayable due to insane input lag. I'm really doubting Sony even know how to emulate PAL versions at all.
Psycho Mantis’s powers are gonna be kind of garbage without any dual shock controllers to move and no other Konami PlayStation titles to detect on your memory card.
Most of the classic games I’d want to play are available on the PS Store. It’s easier and cheaper to just run them off my PSP or PS3. Why do I need another system when I already have one that has backwards compatibility? Also, most 3D games don’t age well. Nintendo’s classic systems work well, because that era of gaming has a certain charm to them that still holds to today’s standards.
The game is based on a book title that is only licensed in Japan. I think that is why they called one of the sequels something else after the first came out in the states.
Maybe this is the reason we aren’t getting a N64 Classic this year. Nintendo knew and wanted Sony to be in the spotlight so everyone could see how horrible their classic console is.
If there is going to be an N64 classic, I think the reason they didn't put it out for this Christmas is because of how bad they fucked up the NES Classic release and because of they way the release went many are getting one this year, so they would be competing with themselves.
@@kuma1388 ok... yeah technically you shouldn't judge before release but if you're contantly hearing negative things about a product, that's a natural reaction.
@kmiller9959 I have a PS4, XB1 and a Switch as my current gen systems. Guess which system is my favorite? It's not the PS4, which gets the least amount of love from me, as the Switch gets the most love because of two very simple reasons. 1. Nintendo makes some darn good games that anybody can pick up and play. 2. I can take my Switch with me anywhere I go, including out of town. Well, technically you could with the PS4 or XB1 but it'll just be bulkier and a couple of wires involved. As for the reason I enjoy my XB1 more than my PS4, it's got better online for all those multi-plat games. Sony's got exclusives but all those multi-plat games play better on XB1.
Jacabo Blanco it would make ZERO business sense to NOT include some of the biggest classic games that the ps1 was known for back in the day. So what if they recently made remasters?? The sole purpose of these classic systems is for us to enjoy the retro games for what they were back in the day with modern hdmi support (in addition to being small and compact so its also easy to travel with).Whats the point of making a “classic ps1” system without some of their main biggest classics?
It doesn't make sense from a business standpoint to put Crash and Spyro on the ps1 classic when they both just got full remakes recently. It is redundant to have them. That said, why is there no Tomb Raider, or Brave Fencer Musashi, no Medievil, no Megaman 8, or Street Fighter Alpha/EX? What about a Wild 9 or Bust-A-Move? Or the original Dance Dance Revolution (which can be played with a controller, no dance pad required)?

The NES and SNES mini only exists to tide fans over because of the failure of the Wii U. Nintendo doesn’t want the N64 mini to compete with the Switch.

Mr driller is a fantastic game... But it's not a PlayStation classic, its on pretty much every platform and its a much better handheld game. They couldve AT LEAST put the plus version with extra content on the classic if they really did have to put Mr Driller. I'm super happy about Jumping Flash and Intelligent Qube being on it, those are genuine classics. Revelations Persona is a horrible localization with tons of cut content and horrible translations. Its definitely not the best way to play Persona 1. Rainbow Six is garbage to play now, and it isn't a PlayStation classic, its a pc classic.
Frank West Think about it like this: Which game should be on the PLAYSTATION CLASSIC? Mr.Driller or Tomb Raider? Mr.Driller or Crash Mr.Driller or Spyro The game may be good, but is it a CLASSIC playstation title that helped define a era of games?
The PSP version of Persona could've been the ultimate version of it. Sadly the music was so terrible IMHO that I could not overlook it. Shame they didn't give you the option to choose between the original and arranged versions of the soundtrack.
I was excited for this at first. Especially since it was rumoured that Nintendo was releasing a 64 Classic. I thought it would be cool to have a PSX vs 64 war in 2018.
I'm pretty sure it's because Sony had publishing rights of the PAL versions of the game and not the north American versions. This way they wouldn't need to reacquire the rights to redistribute. Look at the wiki and look carefully. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sony_Interactive_Entertainment_video_games#PlayStation I was fully expecting this news.
How do you not have distribution rights to your own product? Apparently Sony has a long history of half-assery and farming out the work that they should be doing themselves.
@@SarajevoKyoto They're not the owner of all the games released on the platform. There's 3rd parties licensed to release games on any console, and these are IPs belonging to the original developers/publishers. It's the same with Nintendo, they mostly included their own games on the NES/SNES classic, along with some 3rd party developer's games like Konami, Namco etc which was probably easy to license... also some of these developers/publishers of these old games went out of business since then, so it's mostly impossible to aquire licensing for some games. Also PS wants to sell their remakes on the PS4 for games like Crash Bandicoot trilogy, so they simply didn't include it on the PS classic to encourage buying the remake :).
@Pharzel Noooo, but giving them 100 dollars to play games that were never meant to be used on it. Or better yet, download entire ISO sets of their PS1 and PS2 games, and I know where to download all of their games.

You truly hit the nail on the head! PlayStation doesn’t care either, how far will Sony sacrifice to fix this issue? That question won’t even be apparent to Sony.
Next thing we find out it has 3 layers of drm, one is denuvo, another is a total harddrive of 10 gigs just enough for the games, and finally a self destruct chip if you try and install a new drive.
I was considering this system until i saw the games lineup. I thought the SNES Classic library was fine but still a bit lackluster, but this one is just pathetic when compared to some of the caliber of games the PS1 had available.
SNES was easy (and it is even now) to hack with Hakchi, and put the whole SNES library on it. They implemented USB drive support for it, so you can literally run anything on the SNES classic. They at least had Canoe (in-house emulator) running on it instead of using an open-source one. The SNES is way superior and it's a better value for money than PS1 classic. I hope N64 classic will be another hit (i'm almost sure it'll get positive reviews). Sony wanted to make some easy $$$ during the Christmas sale, they don't care about their customers...
@@SarajevoKyotoI'm almost sure they're come out with the N64 Classic next year. One thing is sure, we won't be able to get our hands on it this year, it will be a 2019 release at best. There's lots of evidence that it's in the works at Nintendo. I expect it to release at a higher price: possibly $100 or slightly higher, around $120 - needs better hardware than the NES/SNES to emulate and should probably come with 2 controllers. Here's the evidence I'm talking about: 1. pictures of the system leaked on the internet (maybe only rumour - so this one is not sure it's legit), 2. patented N64 controllers (this is confirmed) 3. N64 game manuals released and published recently on the nintendo website (this is also confirmed - publicly available) Also the classic systems sold like hot cakes, why would they want to stop producing that? Both the NES and SNES were succesful products, high demand, millions of units sold, very good reviews. Due to high demand they started producing more NES Classic units last summer. Simply doesn't make sense to not release the N64 classic. Maybe not earlier than next summer, but I'm sure it will see daylight some time :).

PS1's are pretty much the cheapest retro system to buy and most of the games they offer in this collection are some of the cheapest to buy, so really, how did they think pricing this at $100 is a good idea? Just buy a PS1 or PS2 for less than $40 and spend the extra money buying GOOD games you'll actually play.
"FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY-NINE US DOLLARS!" "People will get a second job to pay for a PS3." "Dualshock is a last gen feature." "We were hacked and your personal information was stolen.. Sorry." I love Sony and all, but they really have a problem with inserting their foot into their mouth.

I would assume that eurogamer is based in europe, therefore PAL region. So the reported issues there could not be related to having PAL versions right? Or am i missing something?
Sadly pal versions were just objectively worse before :/ since they didn't run at the intended japanese velocity, which is the same as the US. So there is really no point in putting pal versions in these things, they are not even in PAL version of nes or snes classic. And even if european gamers may prefer them as that the way they experienced the games (pretty inconsisten by the way, since just half of the games are PAL). There should be no reason to port them over to the US.

You realize Nintendo has a “virtual console” store with legacy titles spanning all of their consoles right?

I don't think a video where he actually plays it is going to make much of a difference in peoples' decision to get one at this point...we already know it's bad. Instead, he should put up a video announcing that he has decided not to buy one...that makes a more powerful statement then buying one and doing a review of it.

You really are just better off buying a PS3 to play PS1 games.
Any cheap old PC can emulate those games better.
Or grab a psp and hack it for ps1 games.
True but the PS3 has the advantage of being able to play any physical PS1 game.
Danny Richie I tried that with the Spyro games while waiting for the trilogy. They're unplayable due to insane input lag. I'm really doubting Sony even know how to emulate PAL versions at all.
Get a real PS1, you can find them cheap
Psycho Mantis’s powers are gonna be kind of garbage without any dual shock controllers to move and no other Konami PlayStation titles to detect on your memory card.
Unplug the console from HDMI 1 and plug into HDMI 2
Most of the classic games I’d want to play are available on the PS Store. It’s easier and cheaper to just run them off my PSP or PS3. Why do I need another system when I already have one that has backwards compatibility?
Also, most 3D games don’t age well. Nintendo’s classic systems work well, because that era of gaming has a certain charm to them that still holds to today’s standards.

Or, Nintendo wisely didn't try to rush crap out in time for Christmas.
Air Joshy it's just their choice of some games, and using the PAL versions. wtf? shame
I don't think there will be an N64 classic at all

It's not the PS4, which gets the least amount of love from me, as the Switch gets the most love because of two very simple reasons. 1. Nintendo makes some darn good games that anybody can pick up and play. 2. I can take my Switch with me anywhere I go, including out of town. Well, technically you could with the PS4 or XB1 but it'll just be bulkier and a couple of wires involved.
@@borsoseduard Bad News: no N64 classic. Good news: it's because N64 emulation will be added to Switch Online next year
@@SarajevoKyotoI'm almost sure they're come out with the N64 Classic next year.
Here's the evidence I'm talking about:
1. pictures of the system leaked on the internet (maybe only rumour - so this one is not sure it's legit),
2. patented N64 controllers (this is confirmed)
3. N64 game manuals released and published recently on the nintendo website (this is also confirmed - publicly available)
Also the classic systems sold like hot cakes, why would they want to stop producing that? Both the NES and SNES were succesful products, high demand, millions of units sold, very good reviews. Due to high demand they started producing more NES Classic units last summer. Simply doesn't make sense to not release the N64 classic. The Playstation Classic...
And I am here to tell you that you DON"T have to buy one
Retarded comment
No Jet Moto because it’s full of advertisements, and I doubt anyone at Sony wants to take the time to remove them all.
Robert D'Amico but I love Jet Moto. 😪
Thats the problem . Its just badly compressed jpeg pictures that can be so easily exchanged except the cutscenes but thats still rather a small complaint to be easily changed changed / fixed . Sony should be ashamed of itsself.
Super NES classic is a definite plus.....playstation classic....ummm....no
PAL versions? Wow.....pure laziness
I canceled mine as well. I know you don't care for raspberry pi. But at this point. Its a better option to, play these games on.
I can't wait to play Mr. Driller... at least its 60hz :P
Sometimes I feel everyone is too dramatic and picky.
Well just to his point, you ask for a burger and you get a taco. Yes I can adjust to it but why should I have to pay money (key point) to get something I didn't order? So I'll walk out the same way I cancelled my preorder.
these videos are pretty dramatic and people do get on bandwagons. i dont think most people are going to get this, i sure hope not? dont think it needs videos to point it out but that said no one should buy this. 100 dollars? come on...
Stephen Xythil so what happens to the taco? Or have you had a burger instead??
@@mrbachittarsingh9243 haha I'd have neither and go somewhere that people know what they're doing
for $100, imma be too. the NES classic systems rock.
I rather end up using a rasberry pi than using psx classic
Dominic West one is legal and officially licensed... the other is not. You can’t really compare the two.
Dominic West then just pop in epsxe then you’re good to go!
@@combradechubbs yes, you can compare the two.
For 35$ + controllers + a microSD card, and you can get an arguably better experience.
Also, by definition, emulation != Illegal.
@@SilverDragonsmx No, emulation isn't illegal by definition. Those PSX games you download from the Playstation store, work via... you guessed it... emulation. The Nintendo Virtual Console games were also via emulation. These companies are officially endorsing emulation as long as they get the profit. Don't confuse emulation and piracy. One is legal, the other is not.
you lie
I bet once Sony gets the sales for this, they’re gonna give up on it and do the same thing they did with the vita, which (isn’t exactly what they did but I’m being sarcastic) was pretend that Nintendo doesn’t exist and say no one cares about handheld gaming (except say no one cares about classic systems in this case)
Thanks for the heads up. I was will ing to forgive a lot of what I saw previously about the playstation classic but the pal thing was the last straw. Heading to gamestop to get my deposit back. Yes Sony give us a super outdated version of classic but outdated games.
I am sure this this is a flawed product but isnt it strange to hang the issues from eurogamer on the fact that the PAL versions are on it? I would assume that eurogamer is based in europe, therefore PAL region. So the reported issues there could not be related to having PAL versions right? Or am i missing something?
He's not hanging the issues on Eurogamers or PAL. He has issues with Playstation releasing the U.S Playstation classic with PAL versions games.
This is why I still have my PS1
Sony let success get to their heads, and now to keep that success they are having to cut corners in every area to get their net worth out of something
TheGamingZilla Sony only cares about money.
