So it’s being used as a voltage match for the sub amp interesting I used to do car audio years back and amps had a gain control for matching up with head units. Guess home audio doesn’t have that I always just assumed home audio was all standardized.
Home audio is always behind for sure.... HA
Great video. Through the discord James suggested to get one as my sub out was sending all kinds of phantom signals to the sub. Picked up the converter and the sub now plays beautifully. Thanks James!!
Awesome!! Thanks for the testimony 🤗🤗
Awesome tip! Is there a way you can tell this would be the fix for some systems for a noobie? I have an outlaw x12 fed from a nice mid level receiver in a very large space. I haven't had it set up in any other spaces to know if it could use a boost or not, if it's just the large space that holds it back a bit.
The cool thing is it’s like $15 on Amazon and can be returned easy. Give it a shot. 👍🏼
Your recommendation is OK. The audio control version would be Far superior. If you put these on oscilloscope, you’ll see that quite a few of these cheap line level converters will add a lot of noise to your system.
Agreed. That may or may not be audible in the bass regions. Well worth a $15 Amazon buy to actually see and hear for someone in real time. 😊 otherwise it’s all just speculation and assumption. I personally did not detect any degradation in performance or sound quality in the sub 50hz regions.
Hi, my existing subwoofer is a 4th order bandpass 8" (200watts) active subwoofer and I'm planning to add another diy subwoofer box which is just a simple front air ported active 8" subwoofer (200 watts). Is there a possibility of a phase cancellation that would happen if i use both of them with different subwoofer box design?
I believe there is always a possibility when using multiple subs. Placement and tuning will be key. Running some sweeps will be key I think in this instance. I’m no pro by any means, so grain of salt here for sure. 👍🏼
@@abxaudiophiles Thanks.
I had a similar issue with my Lii Audio F15 w-15 combo with a Crown XLS. My Primaluna’s output was mismatched. The Crown amp has twice the input sensitivity as my Primaluna Prologue 4 amp. The solution I found which works great without signal robbing adapters was getting my Benchmark DAC. I’m using its preamp function as It has jumper settings to set the gain output for the XLR and RCA independently. My bass issues have been solved without adding additional hum or noise to the signal
Good info thanks!
Good info for sure! I am not finding any signal loss or quality degradation from this converter in my listening, but you are correct. I used the XLR outs on my Orchard Audio and Eversolo DACs with great results. :)
Have you guys used the input sensitivity function on your Crown amp? I have a couple of the XLS 1502's, and you can set them at 1.5, or 0.75.
That way you achieve full output with only a 0.75 volts. I think that's how it goes anyway. It has been a while since I've used either of them. ✌️
I don’t see any input sensitivity selection on my Crown XLS 1002. I read the manual and didn’t see anything. Is it internal? That would be the best solution.
@@briantrev1 I just pulled up the manual for my XLS 1502. It's right in the main menu. Third option is "input sensitivity". Default is 1.4, and "high" is 0.775. Which is for low output levels. Not sure about your amp. But that's how my 1502 is. Good luck. ✌️
I am interested but I don't fully understand how this would be wired up in a home subwoofer setup. Could you provide some diagrams or a video showing how it is wired?
Hook the wires up to your speaker wire terminals on your amp and the RCA cable to your subs. 👍🏼
@@abxaudiophiles Got it, thanks!
I also tried the Schiit passive preamp to cut the output to my mains to match the Sub. The best thing I could have done was select the right amp to begin with that has input sensitivity closer to that of my main amp.
Very nice!
I just use a "y" rca from my nad pre amplifier to my amplifier. 1 goes to the amplifier and the other one goes to the subwoofer.
Good tip!
I have two subs controlled with their DSP app I have an old school tube amp and tube preamp I use my Oppo BD 105 blu ray player that has RCA & XRL pre-outs to my subs I have no problem with subvolume, just ask my neighbors 😅😅😅
Very nice!! 👍🏼
