I don't know what's more relaxing, step 5 polishing the aluminum heads, or power-washing and scrubbing out the bays at a shop building/studio space. And then comes the paint. Aw yeaaah! Man this is starting to be like the McLaren F1 channel. All we need is an epoxy coating on the floor and industrial de-humidifier and no more rusty engine blocks. Practically a "clean room" 👍. But at the end of the day it IS Matt's shop.

Back when you were that crazy guy making an AWD Mirage (Colt, but we call them Mirage. Yes I am Australian) and had a running DSM 🤣porting ebay 20g's for the hell of it. I started watching when you had long hair and now you have long hair again! Come full circle. Cheers to progress and I look forward to years more to come!

Bro... real talk... including the physical recovery time and paint drying time, this took a month. I paid rent twice before car work started. Just budget for that, as well as the paint. It's not just the paint, sprayer, power washer, ladders and masking supplies that cost money. There is a physical toll. There was a week of power washing, and you need 2100 PSI at the very minimum to do anything with concrete. You will be drenched for a whole week now matter how many PSI. Use deck boots with the power washing so you don't destroy your shoes and your feet don't prune. My favorite are the Huk Rogue Wave's. Your feet will thank you. They're cheaper than whatever work shoe you like that will die, I promise. You will spend whole days power washing if you have a well-oiled slab. Purple power scrubs before power washing helps best, and you can get it cheap in 5 gallon buckets. You will feel muscles you never knew you had aching and making you walk funny the day after. Buy knee pads for whatever you can't do standing (like the masking job) and really comfortable boots that you don't care AT ALL if they get paint all over them when you're painting. Tyvek is supposed to cover them, and it does, but unless you wear replaceable booties over them, you will wear through them eventually while walking around. Your masking game must be on point or the cleanup will take forever. Even though I only masked lights, the lift and the floor, it took me two days total. I tried to mask only where I was painting and my first wall bit me hard. I spent a week cleaning up all the overspray. Big Red was outside the garage doors about 20 feet away and it needed the same treatment, so don't paint with the doors open no matter how hot it is. Tyvek is a curse above 85°F because it doesn't breathe AT ALL. We had a heat index of over 105° every day I was painting. Don't leave your hood off like I did while painting for even a second when you're painting or it will end up all through your hair. You will paint yourself. If you use an airless sprayer, EVERYTHING must be fully masked before you spray ANYTHING. Overspray will coat everything air from that space can go. You can wash paint off your hands with soapy water so you don't need gloves, but wear a respirator, goggles, and Tyvek at the very least. Power washed it a second time just as vigorously as the first time to get all the overspray out of my clean, dry floor. The second you finish you will never regret a single second you spent doing any of it. The only time I ever get dirty in there now is when I'm working on my Hyundai.
Amazing what a few coats of paints can do, I have the same sprayer, 350 gallons over 4 years is what I got out of mine before the seals started leaking..so I bought another one lol Happy to see your shop space!

Two tone looks nice, but the place will be so much brighter with white walls and ceiling! Used way more paint than I would have expected. Wowser. You certainly made it look like a whole new place though. Great work. Always feels super nice to clear out and tidy up a space and make it your own. So motivating. I used way more paint than I expected, too! lol! Holy cow! I thought changing paint colors in buildings cost less than painting a car. Nope! My show winning GSX paint job was only $1680 back in 2005. This is a huge shop. The extra gloss coated better than everything else I used, but it still took 45 gallons of paint just for the 3 bays. It is awesome to have light. Lots of light. I needed light, and so did all of you!

For years, my "If I ever strike it rich" checklist has included "Hire a crew to wait until Jafro is on vacation, then (without telling him) install an underground multi-level Batcave garage in his backyard". Film his reaction when he gets back and discovers it. Honestly, though, the new garage he has now is a much more sensible option. But if I ever do get a ton of cash, don't be surprised if the new garage mysteriously gets a serious upgrade. High on the list: sound-cancelling tech that lets him play music while he films without getting into copyright trouble. Also, leave him a Talon desecrated with a Tesla Plaid motor, next to a Tesla Plaid desecrated with a Talon 4G63 engine. Stupid amounts of money deserve stupid expenditures. But seriously, I'm very happy about the upgrade. The cars deserve it. Jafro deserves it. Today is a good day.

So, the Jafcave? lol That's so awesome. The hardest part of finding a shop near me is FINDING A SHOP NEAR ME. lol I always find great buildings in S**tty parts of town, and nothing in the decent part of town. lol
I haven't decided yet, but no. I wouldn't abuse an engine by putting it in there. I do have much better facilities for that at home, honestly. We'll see when the time comes because the shop is still evolving!

I haven't decided yet, but no. I wouldn't abuse an engine by putting it in there. I do have much better facilities for that at home, honestly. We'll see when the time comes because the shop is still evolving!
