I saw the Kinks play live way before you were born. Truly great band and I think you might enjoy much of their catalogue. As someone who heard this tune a billion times and as a jaded old retired music critic I still found it powerful to hear it again and was especially delighted by your reaction.
Thank you for the kind words, I truly loved and enjoyed this piece, how talented they are is amazing, I look forward to checking more out. Thanks for watching and leaving this comment.☺️🙏
You do know Lola is a man??
Great reaction! You are very pleasant in your assessment of all the songs you react to, and a very nice reactor to watch.
May your reaction channel grow higher and higher in numbers ... 😀
Oh wow… thank you so much for these kind words , it’s really encouraging, I truly appreciate it. 🙏😁
Lola is a man sweetheart.
😳really… omg …🤷🏽♀️
They had to keep it vague. The song was released about eight years before the stonewall riots, where gays FINALLY protested being treated like criminals.
The Kinks are one of the most influential 60's British bands. Ray Davies, the lead vocals on this, is a fantastic songwriter. If you delve into their catalogue, classic songs include (and some chart hits in the past), 'Dedicated Follower of Fashion', 'Sunny Afternoon', 'Autumn Almanac', 'David Watts' (The Jam covered that one) and my personal favourite, 'Waterloo Sunset'. There is a 'BBC' edit of this where Ray sings 'Cherry cola' as the BBC don't advertise brands so that was thought to be neutral. Lots of people seem to think Ray sings 'I'm glad I'm a man'...in the final reveal, but I hear it as 'I'll bet I'm a man'...
I find them really interesting, will be glad to check out more from them, thanks for watching and leaving this comment.🙏
This song was banned in some parts of the US in others the last verse was faded out In Australia although not banned some radio stations either refused to play it or faded out the last verse.
According to a member of the band the song was inspired when their manager met an attractive girl in a night club in France and on leaving the night club in the early morning noticed she had stubble on her chin as the lyrics suggest the person was most likely Transgender.
The BBC in the UK Banned it for a short while because of the line containing Coca Cola not allowed to advertise product on the BBC so the kinks changed the lyric to Cherry Cola for the BBC.
I met her in a club down in old Soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like coca cola
C-O-L-A, Cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola
L-O-L-A, Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Well, I'm not the world's most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman but talked like a man
Oh my Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Well, we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said "Dear boy, won't you come home with me?"
Well, I'm not the world's most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes, well I almost fell for my Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
I pushed her away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me
Well, that's the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world, except for Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Well, I left home just a week before
And I'd never ever kissed a woman before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said "Dear boy, I'm gonna make you a man"
Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Hmmmm interesting lyrics, thanks for sharing this really appreciate.🙏
But I know what I am and what I am is a man and so was Lola....
u mustve missed the line "im not the worlds most passionate man but i know what i am, im a man, im a man, so is lola!" 😅
wow , you are so beautiful and watching your expressions change was priceless , next do CCR way before your time .vietnam .
Thank you so much for the kind words…. I’ll check this out too. ☺️👍🏽
The clues.
"She walked up to me and she asked me to dance" In the "old" days, women would not ask a man to dance: men would do the asking.
"I asked her her name in a dark brown voice she said Lola". Not a sweet feminine voice, but a dark brown voice.
"I'm not the world's most physical guy, but when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine oh my Lola".
"I'm not dumb but I can't understand why she walks like a woman but talks like a man oh my Lola."
"She picked me up and sat me on her knee, said to me boy won't you come home with me".
"I'm not the world's most masculine man, but I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man and so's Lola"
She didnt hear the last line!
I missed that line 😳
You missed it: "I know what I am a man and so is Lola"!
Omggg I totally missed that line
Forget it darling. Try working for McDonalds.
😏
The Kinks are one of the least influential pop/rock bands of the ‘60s and ‘70s.
I can’t imagine them being anyone’s favorite.
No originality.
