Actually during the Bordeaux Wine Festival few years ago, the veracity of the archaeological dates for vinticulture in Georgia were confirmed, and the evidence showcased. So, Georgia may not be the oldest grape wine (as distinct from rice wine) making country in the world, but it is the oldest known, by a margin of an entire millenium (edit:half a millenium). Please pin this. Edit: thanks for pinning this.
@@creamcheesenation its not a fact, not at all. Georgia has the earliest evidence of vinticulture, but that doesn't mean Georgia invented wine. The earliest evidence of shoe making is found in America and dates back 10 thousand years; that doesn't mean that America invented shoes. Also, at the date for Georgia's earliest evidence of winemaking, Kartvelian peoples didn't inhabit Georgia, or at most were a minority culture in modern day Georgia, so even if wine were invented in Georgia, it is very unlikely it was invented by Georgians.
@@zuuzuuka Wine making was invented in Georgia (same people), this is confirmed by all scholars. Educated yourself and while you're at it please feel free to reach back and remove the stick that shoved so far up your arse..
@@creamcheesenation Damn you are rude. I have educated myself on the subject, but it appears you haven't at all. Which scholar proved Georgians to have invented wine? The earliest record of grape domestication and wine making comes from around 6000 bc. In 6000 bc and for millenia after, modern day Georgia, and especially the archaeological sites with the evidence of vinticulture were the home of the Shulaveri-Shomu culture and the later Trialeti Culture, neither of which are identified with Kartvelian cultures. In fact the scant theories that exist around them, tie them to Indo-European origins. Most of this is information is provided by Georgian archaeologists and academicians. None of whom, affirm that any of this is the evidence for the invention of wine. The only people who say that Georgia invented wine are the Georgian tourism board, Georgian news, Georgian hotel or vinyard owners, and common people who have been fooled by them.

Just returned from my 1-week vacation to Tbilisi, and I must say that I can recommend the county and that city to everyone. The food is delicious (Khachapuri was my favorite), the nightlife is quite lively with a lot of activity, and exploring Tbilisi with a group of friends was fun. Everyone is also willing to help you as a tourist. Most if not all young people can speak English to various degrees of skill, and even the older generation as well - as most earn their living from tourism. Every taxi driver I have met was capable of speaking English - and the Taxi drivers are really talkative, which is a nice way to learn about the country and about locations to visit ^^ Honestly, I recommend everyone to give it a try. The food is very good but still cheap, so you can eat yourself fat :) I didn't visit the rest of Georgia, only the capital, but I think I will return there for the rest someday in the future. Made some new friends there, which is always nice.
Just returned from Georgia! Needless to say some of the best travel experience I’ve had. The Svanetti region is out of this world. I have to agree with Georgians being some of the most hospitable people on the planet! I’ll have to disagree with Georgian food consisting of just bread and cheese. Yes, there a lot of that, but some of the best things we tried had nothing to do with those ingredients. They have some of the best stews I’ve ever had and the Georgian bbq is to die for.
