Aw that means so much to me! Yeah, I feel like we're a rare breed. I mean, I think sunshine is beautiful, but I hate the heat of summer and sometimes the sun just feels too aggressive!
@ agreed. Sun is good. There are health benefits, too. But I get the same feeling in the summer that many people get in Seattle when it’s too gloomy and they can’t deal. I think our nervous systems were wired differently!
OMG me too. I was so depressed this summer, and 2 summers ago I went to the Dr because I felt so blah and apathetic about everything. She said go outside, I was gardening like 3-6 hours a day. Now its cold and gloomy and I'm way better.
For me it’s the humidity. I simply can’t function when just walking to the car drenches me in sweat. 😭. There have been see saw temps in my area the past two weeks & it’s made me so grumpy on the days it gets above 70 because I’m too warm. I need sweater weather so I can curl up with blankets and look at nature.
This video brings so much joy to my dark little heart! I've been very depressed lately, with current events and I need my home to be a sanctuary. Thank you for the inspiring images and ideas. We are moving back to the PNW soon and I can't wait! (Ignore the haters. They don't need to be here)
Hot July saddens me, too! Pollen is vile. Windy, snowy/rainy days offer contentment. Since 1972 I have been this way. Yep, I'm old, blissfully old, and still feel happiest with my old antique inkwells, old books, old fountain pens. Although I tried Scandi for a minute, it wasn't long before I returned to my dark roots. Totally enjoying your channel! 🖤
You can also get electric fireplaces that double as a space heater. I built one from a kit and it allows you to just have the flame effect without heat if you so desire. The one I have is all wood and it cost about the same as a faux mantel/fireplace surround. Usually I decorate for the autumn and leave everything up through winter but I did not have the energy for it this year. I think a little dark boho glam is just what I need right now. Thanks for the inspo!
Omg, you’re a friend after my own heart. I absolutely love moody and dark, deep colors. I could never explain what I was looking for. When I try to explain it, everyone thinks I’m nuts but there’s something about finding a cottage at night in the woods at Christmas…that’s how I would always explain it ❤
Great video. You really captured the dark, fantastical side of the festive season that is often missed. I love your styling but I also love the way you tell a story with your content. Another gem 💎
I feel the same way about summer 😞, bring on the gloomy, rainy atmospheric days for me! I have fairy lights up all year, they’re around my cooker hood in the kitchen, my headboard the bedroom and in my sitting room I have the remains of a real twisted hazel tree that died but the trunk and branches remained intact and I’ve put tiny little fairy lights on it 😊.
I'm doing a Victorian moody Dickensian Christmas this year. I literally can not deal with the Target Walmart generic nonsense. I want a unique home...with actual color. I love your ideas. Anyone willing to break away from trendy crap always makes me happy.
I now find myself in the position of holding back from buying all the dark holiday decor. I need that money for gifts! Great video as always, Steffie! Thanks for the lovely tips!
I'm someone who had the dark living room for years, but finally needed to lighten it up. Perogative. At least I can come here when I long for the midnight moon vibe that's lost.
My daughter still lives at home while attending college, she wants all the traditional Christmas decor, but a Dark Moody Witchy holiday season would suit me just fine. I'll watch this video for inspiration for a Christmas yet to come.
You could totally mix the dark with traditional! One thing I love about more traditional holiday decor is it's so cozy and nostalgic. So mixing that with this darker style could create a really pretty balance!
Just came across your channel (via this video) and I’m in love with your online presence that you show in this video. New sub! So happy to hear that I’m not alone loving the gloomy weather and moody home decor… I don’t like the bright sunny summers, I instead ADORE the golden cozy autumnal weather and the winter time. I thought I was a minority, but maybe not when reading all the comments here ❤ I live in Sweden, and here it seems like everyone hate the misty cold mornings and grey weather while I celebrate just that… Funny how it can be 😊
Haha it's the same here in Seattle! Everyone complains about the weather in fall and winter here (you would think they would be completely used to the rain haha) but I love it 🥰
OMG just found your video and girl!! This is my aesthetic to a T!!! Love love your style and your adorable cat!!! I wish my cats were that cuddly ! Haha 🩷
I just watched the vvitch and now I need to make my bedroom look like this lol. Currently have two druidic looking tapestries one of the tree of life and another of the morrigan ravens around a celtic knot. My room is quite large and would take forever to repaint it but I would like a green and black palette. My problem is making sure everything is cohesive together. Bare branches would be perfect
I'm gonna go ahead and say that the color red is still super important to make it a cozy winter cristmas, and I think a deep burgundy would fit perfectly here.
Hi Steffi I love all your vlogs because I love your style of decor which is slowly becoming my decor. This vlog is my fav so far. It so well planned out and so organized and lots of research time went into this. I will be purchasing some of this decor in this vlog. Stay inspiring, talented and informing to us your followers. Thank You
Your videos are always so inspiring, it's fun to do something different. thoughNo black walls for me, tried it - hated it. However, I found that shiny ebony floors reflected in a wall of mirrors with a bit of mood lighting have a stunning effect. The mirrors were a huge floor to ceiling closet with sliding doors but any large mirror - like one of those ornamental standing mirrors will work. Loved that lantern and can't wait to check out the suggested Pinterest accounts.
I tell my friends that I don't do Christmas, I do Yule. Try to make it witchy with lots of lights and candles and a small black yule tree. Love all these suggestions for cooler decor.
Lovely elegant, warm interiors. Perfectly curated. And I Love the interweaving of pagan influences! Gives everything a feeling of being centuries-old, and calls up many old tales of goddesses around the world. Lovely work! 😗🎄🧚♀ #FaeryChristmas
I decorate for winter and do the bare branches with pine cone and acorn fairy lights. Inalso use wicker, felt, the moon and snowy owls. Some and wood decor I use too.
Love your videos and then you mention The Last Unicorn!? Omg I love The Last Unicorn. My aunt bought me the movie as a get well gift after I had my tonsils removed. I've been obsessed with that movie ever since.
Oh man I watched that movie over and over as a kid. And it wasn't until I watched it as an adult that I realized it has such a star-studded cast! That's also when I realized how bizarre and trippy it is haha. It's such an insane and beautiful movie lol
I love your style and am inspired to add some dark and moody vibes now. Just don’t where or how to start. I will definitely be adding the fairy lights around my fireplace. The vases and woodland animals are so on point, they will be on my wishlist. I’m going to rewatch tomorrow and see if I can find where to watch the last unicorn. Great video and best of luck to you and Helo. I live alone with my black cat named Ethan. He’s pretty demanding lately because I spoiled him on cat treats, which is his crack. Haha. ❤.
I love everything about this! I also get depressed during blindingly bright summer months. I thought I was the only one 😢 also, I really want that candle holder! ❤ Thank you for making this video.
Great video! Just subscribed. I like this moody style. Not much for xmas decor but your video had many good ideas that I will look into. I especially like the lantern with the icelandic “galdrastafur” - Im icelandic and live in Iceland but never found such an item here, although these magic symbols are quite well known in Iceland.
I don't celebrate the holidays but I love decorating for it, and this is right up my alley. Ordered a print from Etsy Gothhouseprintery, The Holly King, a dark natured St. Nick! That's it. I'm painting my living room black.I have a large tree branch that I was going to toss, but it is coming inside now. Thank-you Steffi for taking the time to produce this lovely video! P.S. love your necklace and of course, Helo. 🐈⬛ (Forgive my spelling of kitty's name if incorrect)
Totally love the dark palate! Can you give a list of the top 3 dark paints? Looking for a saturated deep green, browns and should I say dark charcoal/ black? Want to help my dtr in law redo their bedroom. And moody dark is their vibe
Steffi do you have any recommendations for decorating a real red brick fireplace that isn’t functional. I don’t love the red and would love to darken it up a bit but I’m not allowed to paint it. Thanks in advance! 🖤
That can be beautiful too though! Maybe you could start by mixing in some darker stuff and see how that looks? The two styles - even though they're different - can actually complement each other nicely. 😊
This is definitely my style for winter. During December I have pops of dark red berries & roses. The rest of winter it's deep greens, browns & lights. I also like winter foliage which has the icy effect (instead of flocking or "snow") because it sparkles in the lights!
Hi Steffi! I wonder if you have any advice for my situation which I’m sure other people have the same problem. I live in a house that has a very basic layout. Each room is very small. Each room has to be styled a very specific way because every single wall has a door/closet/window! I have limited options for arranging furniture and decor. Do you run into this too? Thanks! 🖤

Thank you! I could paint my walls black, but honestly I'm just not up to it haha. I've done it before in another apartment, and it's hard work! And I do write my own videos, so all the words are my own original writings. 😊

I can’t say how comforting it is to hear someone else say they get SAD in the hot, bright summer months. These videos are my own personal therapy.
