I don't know why but there is so much "magic" or "positive energy" in your videos in which you are outside in the nature. Hard to explain ... It's beautiful - and then you play the music and it's even more beautiful. But strangely this is only in your videos - don't feel the same in other photographers videos when they are somewhere filming in nature. Thank you for the helpful information by the way. Like your Italian accent. Cheers from Austria!
For all those with short attention spans, firstly, give up photography, if you have that little patience you're never going to learn anything, secondly, look at Attilio's work, a master giving you his knowledge for free, show some respect dudes.
Great tips. I’d add a few more. 1) Many landscape photos have an obvious landmark or point of interest. Focus on that. 2) Turn on focus peaking and focus to maximize the amount highlighted. 3) Take multiple images mixing a variety of techniques. You never know which technique will suit the situation best.
Yay a photographer who understands and can explain hyperfocal distance! Many supposed photographers can't. What's the point of using a really small aperture with deep depth of field if your subjects you want in focus are really far away pretty much at infinity such as in most landscape shots and getting a soft image due to diffraction around the small aperture? Just use a larger aperture as you say in your next video. Maybe you remember when lenses used to have distance scales and aperture markings on their barrels so you could just switch the lens to manual adjust the lens to suit what you wanted to be in focus in your shot at what ever distance depending on the aperture you have chosen so simple. But most modern DSLRs don't have lenses with distance scales and aperture markings on any more. I have met so many photographers who cannot grasp this even supposedly more experienced photographers. Once you do it is an epiphany moment in photography and you can do so much more being really creative and of course getting what you want in focus to be pin sharp of course using all your other tips as well. Focus 1/3 in always works well. Great tutorial.
Regarding your question on reviewing the backpack, I would say focus on your main objective, learning photography on you tube. There are lots of people that do reviews. You are a good teacher, I hate to see you get distracted. Of course, this is only my opinion. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for mentioning PhotoPills for DOF tables. Very handy. I discovered that the app includes parameters for including print viewing distance and vision quality of the viewer under the advanced DOF option. In the field I always do focus stacking even if I decide in post processing it is not necessary. (Disk space is cheap compared to my travel expenses.)
Super, short and simple explain. Review the bag please and maybe you shuld make video how you preparing for shoting... How you find locations, where you check the wheter, time of shoting, what to be careful and other things. I belive it is important.. bye
Hyperfocal distance H=(f^2)/Nc , Example: N= 50 mm Lens f/8, c=0.03 for full frame, H=(50^2)/(8x0.03) = 10467 mm 0r 10.5 meter ref: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperfocal_distance
Yet another great video. Many thanks. Yes, in answer to your question, please do a review of your backpacks. Finding the right one can be very difficult.
Great video, great location. Thinking of buying d810, heard it has focusing issues, wondering if you have any problems using this camera for landscape in low light ? thanks again.
Thank you, Mr. Attilio for sharing your experiences. Love your pictures. Said that, I must admit that I haven't understood well your last method of focussing. It looks to me, it is the Hyperfocal distance method, which depends on the lens you are using( Brand, focal length), and the Aperture you selected to use. To my understanding, the DOF calculator, determines the Hyperfocal distance, I might be missing something. Could you please correct me, and explain the step by step process of your method. Thank you so much for your assistance. Regards.
Hi Attilio. I have a question for you. Why didn't you mention manual focus at infinity? It works quite well with my apsc body and focus peaking. Greetings!
Attilio, even if using Photo Pills - I would still have to guess where the Hyper Focal Distance would be isn't it? Let's say it said I should focus 12 feet away, I would have to guess where 12 feet is? The same would apply to the double distance focusing method?
Apologies if this is a stupid question but shooting rocks surrounded by water, how do you know how far away the rock is? especially for the double the distance method. Thanks for a great upload by the way.
Thank you again Artilio just off to add your hashtag on Instagram - one day I will get an ok Landscape Shot that is worthy enough to show - until then I will keep plugging away !
Attilio...whether it's editing in lightroom or which lens to use or which ND filter to go with...I have learned so much from you! Would love a review of the bag! I really really enjoy your videos! Thank you!!!!
3 things: (1) love the channel; (2) yes do a bag review; and (3) while you provided insight as to how to accomplish/use the other focus methods (ie refer to chart, double the distance of the nearest object you want in focus) I either missed or you didn’t illuminate the 1/3 method. Does one pick a point 1/3 up from the bottom - or top - of the frame or do guesstimate where 1/3 of the actual distance lies (which I acknowledge may be the same as one of the foregoing option). Maybe superimposing an indicator of the focus point on the final image would make it clearer to dummies like me. In any event, please keep up the great work as an artist and educator.
Hi John, I guess I could have been more clear. I focus at one third of the depth of the scene from the camera ( so from the bottom of the image, where I put the red line...) Hope this explains it!
If you will be using the 1/3 up method, you will look for an object approx. 1/3 of the way INTO the scene as opposed to up from the bottom of the frame ( occasionally they coincide ). A common mistake that is made using this method occurs when a large object such as a tree or large rock has been placed in the NEAR foreground of the composition. If you "measure" 1/3 of the way up from the bottom with your focus point on the the tree/rock , you are actually focusing on the particular object's distance which is most likely NOT 1/3 of the way INTO the scene. Hope that makes sense.
First, my apology. I must have blinked or my brain went into a dead spot at the point the red line appeared. Secondly, other than perhaps putting an x on the spot you actually focused on (which actually is not needed) your narrative is clear enough. Sorry about that.
If possible could you do a video on composition by lens. For example, I have a low end camera but a high dollar lens. I own a 70-200 GM OSS F2.8 and would love to know how to compose by lens type. Hope this makes sense.
Hi would you kindly cover long exposure with ND filters vs in camera multiple exposure (I have a D850 which can do 10 shots combined in to one image) vs multiple shots combined in software. Your thoughts on the pros and cons would be appreciated. 👍
I am binge watching Attilio today !! what a blessing

Hey man, do you do single point focus for landscape ? Or do you choose a different type of focus point?
Thanks so much for your video and specially for speaking slowly for non-native English speakers. Thanks from Spain.
