My friend , let me say thank you for this video that will go on to help so many . But if I could ad one thing to your process ? HEAT !!! Put each bracket in the vice and heat with a propane torch (Dont melt the thing) until the old bonding material is soft. It all peals right out then in minutes . Probably takes me 30 minutes per glass to get them cleaned and prepped . Once the old bonding material is out use a bead brush on a right angle grinder and the surface is virgin and roughed and ready to go... I remember the sharpened flat head days beating and cursing and slipping off and the blood letting.... Until I discovered FLAME !!! For the record it was Mustangs that lead me down this road of destruction , not Rhinos.... But we all end up in the same place now dont we ???
Thank you for the kind words, Kyle. Yes, that is a great Idea, I hope I never have to do another one, but if I do, heat will be part of the plan for sure.
@Dale Sweger You kmow nothing is free when dealing with these old cars and this is no exception. The first time you do it with the heat you look back on those countless lost hours and what it all did to your hands and you have a few choice words anyway.
Thank you sir! I just bought a 1968 GT Torino fastback today and had this very same issue on it on the driver side. I’m following your video as we speak to do this job.
Hey Tom, I know I hate those glue in windows, but that is what you have, so you need to deal with it. This works for me. Wish you the best of luck with your project.
I tried messaging Dale on Facebook. But no answer yet. I’ve watched the video a bunch of times. But I can’t tell if he cleaned out the channel all the way to the aluminum. I’m afraid I may have gotten too over zealous. I brushed out everything to the bare aluminum. Now the glass flops around in the channel. I may have to make some runners or spacers to get it back together. 😂 did you leave anything or take it all out?
@@tomcronininc Hi Tom, man I just don't use Facebook, don't even have notifications turned on. Not even sure why I have an account there. It has been a while since I did one of those glue in windows. As I remember I just removed any grease, dirt and debris. I didn't really dig in hard to remove more than just enough to get the epoxy in there. The glue they have now is so much better, as long as it is clean you will never have to do it again. Think I have done 5 or 6 windows and none have I ever had any problems with. Good luck with your project.
Thanks Tim, I am glad this old video is of some help. It can be an overwhelming job, but its really not that bad. Good luck, and thanks for following the channel.
I did a little research and found the 68-69 Torino and Ranchero door shells were the same but the glass is different, how they differed I couldn't find. I had no witness marks on my old glass so I think I will try your measurements and see if they look correct before I glue the brackets to the glass.
Yes I have two doors from a ranchero on my fastback, I was just sure at least one of them had the ranchero glass in it. I know I had to find glass for one door. I looked them up too, Im not so sure that the difference may just be a small thing like a stainless trim around the glass or something like that. I know my car has one with the trim and one without. My formal roof has one of each also. Not sure, but I would bet the measurements are going to be the same. Ford made part number changes on a whim.
Yoi gave the measurements from edge of glass to bracket. But how deep does the glass get glued into the channel? Is it flush all the way down to the bottom, or give it space? Ive heard 3/8" of an inch?
Holy cow, that has been 3 or 4 years ago. I think when I did mine, I didn't remove the sealant all the way down in the channel. Just the width. I'm sorry I can't be more help it's just been a long time ago. Normally you can tell by the witness marks on the glass, how it was installed from the factory.
Fabulous video Dale!! I am restoring my '69 Cobra Torino Fastback which has factory power windows,. I assume all the measurements are the same? Glass is out so your video hits my nail right on the head. Thank you so much. I know it took a lot of time and effort. Much appreciated.
Thanks for making this video! My 68 Fairlane 500's glass was not in the doors when i got it. There are no witness marks for the brackets, I saw your dimensions but I wanted to see if they applied to the convertible glass.
I sorry, just not sure never did a convertible. The doors are the same, I am betting the window brackets are too. The "A" pillar is in the same place. If I were a betting man...I would say yes. At least for the front windows. Were the rear windows missing too? Let me see if I can look up the glass, brackets part numbers, if they are the same I would have to say yes. But it would only be a guess. Think I would try some Torino forums to get a few more opinions. I will get back to you with what I find out on the part numbers. Hey thanks for watching.
@@montana2strokeracer Thanks Sir. I managed to backlight one of the windows and was able to just barely see witness marks and can confirm the 1/2" and 32" dimension are the same. The vert glass has chrome all the way around the perimeter of the window and the chrome piece may be a slightly bulkier on the back edge from what I can see in your video. Once again thanks for posting this. It is making my re-installation SO much easier and having those dimensions are priceless.. Ordering my adhesive today!
@@Killerhardtopkiller Most 68 windows have the chrome around the glass, some where late 68 they started to leave it off, all 69's I have seen dont have the chrome trim. Sounds like your ready to go, hope your project goes smooth. Thanks for watching
I have been told that a 69 Ranchero has different side glass than the Torino, Are you sure the measurements are the same for gluing the brackets in? Just making sure before I attempt it.
Hi, I did my left door window, now I need to do my right door window. Are the measurements the same for the right door window when gluing the brackets on? They look like they may be a different measurement?
Can you think of any reason why my window no longer lines up with the rear window, even with a proper seal, there is a gap. I did this window procedure, but didn’t check for that gap before starting the job. (Had just bought car)
Hi there, all I can think of is the adjustments in the door. It should line up, I have done several doors like this and find that some adjustment will need to be done, but it will work. Best of luck!
Hi Dale, I just installed my 69 Ranchero drivers window after regluing the brackets on just like in your video and it is about 1/2" to far forward. I measured and remeasured several times to make sure it was all correct before gluing them so I know the measurements are correct. I only see one adjustment on the front bracket and its adjusted all the way back. Would you have any suggestions on how I could get it to go back about 1/2"? I really dont want to remove them and reglue. Maybe a Ranchero window is different some how?
Hi Fred, yes Rancheros have a different window than the hardtop and coupes. Doors are the same. I personally have never reglue a ranchero, just know when I looked up the glass part number they are different. I have not looked up each bracket and slider in the door to see if they are different.
If memory serves me, it is a 3/8 socket with a screwdriver type handle. The screws are up in there quite a bit. My socket gets stuck up there sometimes you have to fiddle with it to get it out sometimes. A thinner socket would help. Thanks for watchin.
Im sorry. I havent done one, you should be able to see witness marks were it was. Most of the time you can. I venture to say it is pretty much the same. But not for sure. Thanks for watchin
