I just removed my carpet today on my 69 Fairlane. The carpet I removed was cut to the floor bottom of shift area, leaving some original paint up to the chrome boot ring. I like your look better- do you know which way was stock?
Yes, the carpet is supposed to go all the way to the shifter so you see no metal floor or paint exposed. They sale two different types of carpet for these cars with floor shifter, one for automatic and one for manual, so just be sure to buy the right one for your car and then you can cut the hole as you please.
