      @@jamesesterline I do. His name is Elias Jacob (1928-1992). He was in the final episode of season 1 of 'The Love Boat', which aired on May 20, 1978. He portrayed Herman Bass and although he was featured regularly in the episode, he uttered not one line.

      💯 I enjoyed this, this was a bit before my time but it brought me back to playing it on atari with my brother in the early 90s, I only knew mario from the NES games so it was weird seeing Mario in this game amd donkey kong

    From this commercial I gather that Luigi was the original plumber in the family. And after the incident with Donkey Kong, Mario got fired from his carpenter job and gets a job helping out his brother

      I think that the ad also proves that Luigi is the hard working responsible one and Mario is the cowardly lazy oof. Luigi isn't yelling for Mario because he's scared and needs Mario to rescue him, he's yelling because Mario is late for work and things are getting out of hand because Luigi is a man short.

      @@SlayerRunefrost Luigi seems visibly more worried and anxious than angry. Plus, it has been established multiple times throughout the franchise that Luigi has always been the coward who tries to get out of involvement in Mario's adventures (despite being naturally more physically capable) while Mario is the one always walking whole plains, caves, deserts, shores, jungles, mountains in the sky, the clouds themselves, and volcano-adjacent locations in the Dark Lands just to save the Princess every week.

    I miss old video game commercials! I love that they would try to act out scenes from the actual game and also they would show the gameplay. Nowadays it's just cut scenes. You can't even really get a full scope of what you're getting into because all you're being shown is cutscenes the whole time

      Honestly people are getting less and less tolerance for that shit. You usually get a CG reveal trailer, but every game nowadays has a gameplay trailer, and if it doesn't, it's really suspect.

    Easily the most accurate live action depiction of Mario I’ve ever seen.
    They even nailed Luigi’s personality, which Nintendo themselves didn’t decide on untill Luigi’s Mansion.

    Of all the places to source the music for their video game commercial, Atari/Nintendo chose the theme from "Car 54, Where Are You?" A sitcom from 1961
    A gaming company needs to bring this back at least once, like have the next Red Dead game trailer be set to the Andy Griffith theme

      a true coward isn't just someone who expresses their fear, it's someone who runs away when they're needed the most. Luigi is always there for his friends, he's not a coward, he's just the neurotic brother; Mario is just more emotionally stable he's not braver, in fact Luigi is kinda braver for constantly overcoming his fear, perchance.

      I imagine a mix of Iron Lung and FNAF for the art style. It could be a pseudo-3D game, like Sister Location. The game could follow Luigi in the same situation as the commercial, but for several nights. At the end, it’s revealed Mario was too busy fighting off DK, leading to Luigi dying a horrible fate, stuck in the sewers.

      You know you probably wouldn't like Mario. He'd be your landlord and be this obnoxious short guy that becomes 10 feet tall after taking drugs (mushrooms). And nobody would like X-men's the Wolverine unless he made them with the exception of the guy who contracts him out to kill people and then only from behind a desk in another country.

    Since I'm a 90s kid when I hear Mario brothers i think super Mario and when I hear donkey Kong I think donkey Kong country. Amazing how far they went from their roots.

    The thing that has always been interesting to me about Luigi is that he ACTS like a coward, yet he still gets shit done. Like. He never DOESN'T follow through. I think that's partially what makes me like him so much.

      Agreed, it makes him a more developed character compared to Mario in a way. Bravery doesn't mean not experiencing fear. It means continuing forward IN SPITE of your fear.

      @Bro Dude wasn't that the whole lesson of The Cowardly Lion, that he was actually brave because he would fight to protect his friends. Same thing with Scarecrow, he was actually smart as he was the one who would come up with solutions to their problems, same with Tin man, he was actually kind as he was shown to care for others.

    Little known fact: This advert's song was actually a parody of the theme to an old TV show called "Car 54, Where Are You?". Also some portions of the VeggieTales song "The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps" were based off that same melody as well.

      @@MrNoobNub Actually, it was the Game and Watch game "Mario Bros" where they worked in a bottle factory, that was Luigi's first appearance. Though he's literally just a shadow with a hat and the name "Luigi". Mario Bros the arcade game would be his first true debut.

      In 1985 SMB he still looked like Mario actually in the old art. It wasn't until the obscure 1986 anime movie, and SMB2 he looked different.

      It was actually super Mario 3 where Luigi was changed to look different. Super Mario 2 in Japan used the same sprites as super mario.
      The american super mario 2 took Luigi's design from super mario 3. Which launched in Japan the same month super mario 2 launched in the u.s.

      Luigi was still fat in the "Super" games too, especially in Super Mario Bros 3 where both Mario and Luigi had those huge potbellies *(although in the newer versions like in All-Stars or Super Mario Advance they have him slimmed down).* It wasn't until the N64 games where he was considerately slimmer than Mario. Although games like Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games show Luigi has the same porportions as Mario. Mario's actually not as fat as he used to be either, he looks sort of thinner himself just not to the extent as Luigi.
      Also, both of them were depicted to be middle-aged back then as well. It wasn't until the early 2000s when they were aged down to be in their mid-20s.
