The CORE course is not designed to help you get a job, it’s to help you with your business. I’m a business owner and I took the online course, I can say it did help me with basic business skills. I do not regret it. But it’s not for everyone
Hi Cedric, I think there are a large number of people who don’t own a business like you do but still take the program to improve their skills, expecting that it would help them in job search. So, neither was it designed specifically and exclusively to help business owners. But I get what you mean, and I am glad you don’t regret 😊😊😊. That’s good for you 👍👍👍. Now I get it, I was looking for a video who’s tried HBS online CORe and I’m glad I found this. Maybe your right, the target students of HBS CORe is business owners or future CEO’s so they would have a basic knowledge on business and decision making.
I’m enrolled in CORe and I must say it is an amazing program for many reasons. If I need to quote some of them: the course is really well built, the videos are well made and Harvard’s scholars are definitely professional in teaching. Plus you learn a lot from others and you meet amazing people for networking. You learn a lot by doing, you learn a lot by being engaged in all the case studies. I do not think you pay for the Harvard brand. What you actually pay is for learning from the best professional in the education. And of course CORe will not give you the chance to get a job. It is the same after you take a Leadership course. You won’t become a leader because you enrolled in a leadership program. But being engaged in continuous learning, plus learning from professional people, help you broaden your mind and expand your horizons.
@@tojusmith252 well I do not get any money from HBS, but I tried several other platforms and I must say no one is comparable in term of quality. But if you have some great suggestions, please can you share some links or names? Thanks
@@pdiomede Every school follows the same basic curriculum for standard courses, it doesn't matter about the quality of the school but of your teachers and commitment. When it comes to online education I've found that the most important thing is to really put time into it, because even with a great teacher you will take away very little from the class if you only do what's required to pass. • The purpose of schools is validation. The degree functions as a mechanism vetting out those who are less likely to function well in company/corporate/workplace environment. School is neither about training (for a job) cf. vocational or apprenticeship programs nor is school about education / intellectual amelioration. • Mentioned by a comment, the value of the certification is demonstrating self upgrading from given situated job e.g. using the certification as booster for job promotion and not about employment acquisition.
I will be taking management essentials course in November, and my employer will sponsor for the course. In that essence, the course will be valuable for me as I am already in a management position; however, it doesn't substitute experience neither does it substiute a degree. So, if you are into job market, looking for a job, having a certificate will not help , but it will look good on your CV/Resume.
Im currently enrolled in core, i met lots of cohort and we plan to meet in boston soon. Glad to earn friends in core 🥰🥰 i have an amazing group by the way acrossthe globe 😍😍
I just finished taking the HBS CORe course and I think it was a good value. HBS CORe is like a boot camp for business leadership. The skills they teach are basic but from the point of view of a leader, quickly and in great detail. It complemented my other business classes taken at Harvard Extension School well. HBS CORe seems expensive but worth it unless you are already expert in accounting, business statistics, and economics. In that case, it may be too basic. I believe what I learned at HBS CORe will help me to be a better chief financial officer and I think it will pay for itself many times over.
Happy holidays, Christopher, thanks for your long comment. I appreciate that :) Yeah, HBS CORe is business basics, but not sure why you think they teach leadership skills in HBS CORe. Absolutely, as you said, the knowledge and skills taught by these programs are really helpful for those who want to understand the basics of how businesses actually work, but a little expensive. For sure, investment in education is always the best if financial and time inputs are ignored. I always say investment in education is probably the rewarding thing one can do. The question is in what way. Anyway, I have my appreciation, gratitude as well as regret in taking HBS CORe. That is how I felt and still feel. You, of course, have a different experience/feeling as another user/customer/consumer. We have no need to reach consensus. Different angles are definitely awesome! Thanks for watching my videos, my friend! Feel free to share your thoughts on my videos! I love feedbacks :)
@@DrBuren Yes, I realize that everyone had their own definition of value based upon their own experience. HBS CORe does not teach leadership per se, but they teach you to interpret information for a leader's point of view, giving numerous examples of decisions made by business leaders when they applied concepts being taught in the course. Most of my other classes at HES focus on teaching you certain business skills, but not taking such a high-level view and applying those skills to business decisions.
I think that a potential benefit of taking these courses is that you get at the end the certificate with the "Harvard brand name" confirming that you have completed it. You can always have access to this information on your own certainly however you won't have "proof" of understanding unless you apply them on the job. I think it has its benefits if you can afford it in terms of time and finances.
Agreed but partially. I have actually talked about whether this certificate is helpful or not in job applications. The answer is little help. Practically speaking, I think it at best is an expensive "proof" that you are learning about business and finance. The name "Harvard" has little influence in getting a job, at least based on my experience. You may have different views, which are welcome of course. Anyway, hope you enjoying taking them. And, for exchanging thoughts, you may subscribe to my channel, my friend, thank you very much for your support!
There is no substitute for experience in my experience! (sorry) Harvard in the title, usually means avoid, sadly. Its the same in UK. Cambridge or Oxford in the title - it won't teach you anything. It's just a rubber stamp. $2200 is very inexpensive for that particular rubber stamp, sadly. Someone is making a lot of money out of students, especially international students. I'm sorry you got caught out. I worked in Business for 15 years and can honestly, say even after a degree in Business & Mgt, I didn't start learning about either until I actually became a Manager, and even after that, it was 10 years before I landed an amazing job that put me through the best development I've ever experienced. Leadership skills can't be learnt in a classroom, they have to be learnt in the field by doing jobs no one wants to. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I disagree with most things here, except about the importance of experience. First of all these things are not meant to "complete and then be a leader/business person" immediately after it. They are meant as a tool to learn the basic terms and lingo and key ideas of economy and how they relate to business. It's meant for you to have a small basis to make the gathering of experience a little less painful once you start. Also, these certificates can help signal a future employer that you have already set up a small foundation for a "side skill" which will again reassure them that you will be able to get started a little faster and you have some idea about basic notion. But I say "side skill" as these certificates are certainly not meant to be the "main gig" to find a job. It's more if you already have a degree in for example engineering but you want a job that has managerial aspects in it, this can help. And lastly, I get that many people are a bit tired of the hyping of names like "Harvard/Oxford" etc. But dismissing them as "they teach you nothing" is extremely foolish. Despite the hyping, they have extremely high standards and it is wickedly difficult to become a lecturer/professor there. You need to work very hard and be really smart. Sure there is a rotten apple here and there, but overall, these schools are top notch and they really know what they are doing.
on-line course is on-line course, it was just forcing you to take time to spend on reading. of course you can buy book (then why don't you?) read by yourselves but sometimes you need to discuss with others.
Hey Charlie, thanks for your comment. I was sharing what I learned from my experience with HBD online courses and thought it might be helpful to those who are considering. I had some assumptions and expectations before taking them and shared those thoughts too. HBS CORe is in video format and text format, there are posts but not really live discussions. Anyway, please don’t forget to subscribe to my RUclips channel 😜
I think the CORe seems to be more for people wanting to learn the basics of business but you will be competing with people with MBAs who will always have priority for the job market in business. I haven't signed up to CORe but it looks like ir could be useful for someone wanting to do a BA or BSc in Buisness
Degree's may not be essential but could get you a foot in the door as most companies have certain requirements. Furthermore, some jobs do require it. What would be a doctor without a degree. Education changes life's and apart from gaining a valuable skill set, the way of thinking and looking at things usually would evolve as well. Professional certificates further demonstrate commitment to learning and acquisition of knowledge. However, one may need to be careful not to just accumulate certificates which in case of the more expensive courses may be less likely to happen. Meaning the person studying the course may likely do it because they are truly passionate about the topic and by taking this course, it potentially helps making them a more rounding professional/individual.
The prestigious universities, in Mexico at least, are good and expensive not because of the things they teach or because of the level of the teachers, but for the relationships that you could make there. As you said, on the Internet is almost all the information you need to know to become good at something you chose.
I want the brand but also that ivy league level of academic challenges too. But if it isn't much better than a graduate program that I can attend for less, cost-wise, that would be idiotic indeed. (It should be noted that I am looking at a different degree and will take that into consideration, as well). I will peruse their course catalogs closely and compare. That's actually how I found your video. I want to know various experiences people have had at this school. Thank you for adding to my research.

I took one course I delayed the last module for few hours and they didn’t give me certificate even if I gave all quiz, lectures and spend so my any hours . This is really disappointing
yes deadline is extremely important for them. the major criteria is deadline of module and completion of course which is I believe is very simple to get certificate

Thanks for the review. But also remember that in business world, not most noteworthy ones aren’t from schools with degrees, unlike doctors or scientists. From Steve Jobs, Bill Gates to Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk or even Jeff Bezel, how many had Ivy League degrees? It’s one special field that I think just really requires talents.
Hi my friend, I totally agree with you. Yeah, degrees are probably useful for getting entry to mid level jobs, not for getting successes that those people you mentioned. Thanks my friend. Don’t forget to subscribe to my RUclips channel, btw 😜😜😜
Your review is the normal response of every graduate. Completed the certificate or degree noe where are the jobs. Because colleges are listed under nonprofit they can run this scam.
i'm in the program because it is required by my school and i had to buy coursera because the explanations are not good, too literal with answers and there are no written examples. it is not good for someone who has no accounting experience at all, i had to youtube a ton of videos as i couldnt understand increase and decrease with those stupid boxes. why couldnt they just use t- accounts to explain this, ugh!
These classes will only cost me $900. Do you think it's worth the price at this point? I am also going to collage for a degree in business. I just want to knowledge.
That’s interesting! How does it cost only $900? If you going to college for a business degree later, then what you can from HBS online will overlap. If you are NOT going to business school, then $900 is a good deal. Good luck 😉 by the way, don’t forget to subscribe to my RUclips channel to support me😁👍👍👍 thank you very much

If your budget allows, I would say go get a master in finance. If you prefer a certificate, CFA level 1 probably is a good one. But before that you may want to read some finance job requirements in the states and to know what kind of hard requirements they have.
People who go to the best schools are machines that ultimately do not benefit and would be better off in life being entrepreneurial and a bit more cynical towards life

I have a question: After taking only one class of English in Harvard online, does it give you like a certificate that you speak and understand perfectly English?
You know nothing , why you imagine that universities will teach something new !!! There is no university will provide new science, you have to work on it by yourself 😊
Thanks for this. I have an undergraduate degree in business and was thinking about taking CORe in order to gain a deeper understanding of these foundational principles and for the sake of having this Harvard affiliation. After watching this, my concerns have been addressed: it is gimmicky and probably not a smart choice for someone like me who has a degree in business. Thanks

Before I starte working for an international law firm I would like to use me free time to gain some knowledge in business. I am also considering the global business course. Also kind of because I want to stand out and be more open minded for non law topics. Would you recommend me doing one of the online course? Hey, I don't _need_ *any* of the lessons in the CORe program but I need a quick boost my applications for Masters. Would you recommend it? Seems like a couple thousand bucks is a really cheap way to go from zero to respectable in a couple of weeks.
Hi Thug Life Bear, for application for a masters program, I don’t think CORe will help you a lot. Of course, it depends on the program you are applying to as well. Think twice before committing 17 weeks of your time. Hope it helps.
@@DrBuren 17 weeks? I was under the impression you could do 3 8 hour cram sessions and just take the exams. I majored in Accounting in another college, but due to unforseen events in the current climate, the school itself shut down. There is basically no way to prove I actually know my stuff.
@@thuglifebear5256 Extended CORe is a 17-week program and CORe is 10-12 weeks. Check them out here: online.hbs.edu/courses/core/. You can volunteer for positions you like at some companies or some government institutes. It probably is an easier way to get both experience and a job. Hope it helps.

If you go to countries like India where name of the university matters more than the degree that you studied, you will learn about how reputation matters. However, online courses mostly don't count in India in my opinion. Also, WTP goes up with the name of a brand.

Hey, there are a lot. I don’t have specific ones that I really recommend for you now and there is no one book that covers everything. If interested in more like text books, search what those business schools are using to teach business management and leadership. Or You perhaps can start with many popular ones to get yourself familiar with the things in business and how things work in economics. Such as Nudge, Principles, Intelligent Investor, New Tycoons, or just basic books on Accounting. These will help you a lot. Hope it helps 😁
Hi Edevo, thanks for your comment and question and for subscribing to my RUclips channel. I appreciate your support. It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for data analytics, you can find easily a lot of books related to it. If you want to learn about businesses, you want to look into the textbooks that business schools are using. For finance, cfa level 1 is a good start. I don’t have a specific book to recommend that covers all what is discussed in these three courses.
I read a lot of biography books, like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Steve Jobs and all other famous business people. They gave a sense of how they do their businesses but are very far away from ordinary people like myself. I bet you heard it this book Rich dad and poor dad, which really changed my view of money. I would recommend you more practical books that would teach you how to start a small business how to run adds and how to make and sell products.
You sounded like a crying baby, first of all this programs are not meant to look for a job!!! Second harvard is a great way to get a credential , like buying a rolex. It has prestige and higher level on the resume. I have taking some classes there and it has helped me alot, can i get the same knowledge from books ? Of course but if i want and can pay for a course there why not. I am also a business owner and credentials bring you to a better status. You might not see it like that and I am not bragging about my level of skills and education but it a reality. To me is an investment. But you should be looking to improve that English for sure it does need some sharpening.

Thanks for your comment. That is an interesting point of view.

@@hassankazi8756 Hi Yes. :) dont worry its not really hard :)
Good point, absolutely. I agree with you.
I agree
Thank you very much for your comment! Yes, I totally agree with you on experience!
This is Wisdom. Gets you through a few job application filters. That's about it.
That is the practical side of it. Thanks for your comment 😁 I’d haven’t and interested please subscribe to my RUclips channel 😁😁
Thank you for answering all the questions I had in my mind thinking if I should enroll!
Good points. Thanks for your comment! Yup, you are right! I am with you. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to my RUclips channel 😘😘😘

Gates and Zuck went to Harvard, Musk Penn, and Bezos Princeton. Jobs the only non-Ivy..
