We call it “treacle” too! Maybe because I also have British roots. We moved to Canada when I was 3, so I don’t really have memories of living in England, yet I still find myself feeling nostalgic about the place. We went to London two years ago and I was surprised how happy it made me to be there.
I couldn’t agree more with you about learning to spin! I plucked up courage to go to a Guild meeting as a complete novice and those lovely ladies (and one gentleman) helped me achieve a wish to be a spinner! From day one I was encouraged to “have a go” and I’ve never looked back- that was June this year! I now have my own Kiwi and I love her dearly! I’d tried a Nano but that was not for me, so it’s all personal taste! Really enjoying your videos Nancy so thank you x
I can’t thank you enough for your very informative response to my spinning questions. I am very grateful that you took the time to provide such a wonderful response. I will look into this after the new year!
I moved to the States almost 41 years ago from Germany. I can definitely relate with the nostalgia feeling when going home but it isn’t home anymore either. But I’ve moved so many times since coming here and we’re not done yet. I can’t wait to finally be done moving. I still have contact with my classmates. I wished I could fly home for the trips they take together. It’s just awesome that they get together so often and every couple of years go on a long weekend trip together.
Wouldn't it be fab if that is taken as a premise for a Christmas movie! Plane ride to Christmas Past - me, played by Michelle Pfeifer, boards a plane In the UK,2024 to Christmas in Germany or Austria 1982! Xxx ps Merry Christmas x
Thanks for your chat about spinning. I tried a spindle and found I couldn't get the arm/body movements right. It felt like I had to raise my arm higher and higher and higher...So I got an Ashford Joy (the original) double treadle and yes, I learned in person from a spinner, and later took a formal class which was very helpful. I love to spin outside, so don't often spin in the winter, believe it or not! As for electronic spinners -- no thanks! I feel the same way about embroidery using a sewing machine. I'll quilt by machine, but not embroider. Neither will I knit on a machine or make socks on a machine. It's the 'hand-over-hand', repetitive motion that I find soothing using both my hands (and sometimes feet) to spin, knit, embroider and/or quilt. 🙂
I was brought up in Lincolnshire with half the family from there and the other half from Lancashire. Both my Mum and my Granny called "golden syrup" Treacle. it was rare for Mum to use proper treacle so it wasn't u till I started shopping myself that I really started to differentiate. As a child it was just treacle. 😅😅
Any time you mention "gluten" in food reference my ears perk up. My son and I were living together in the boonies and I did the food prep for both of us. He is gluten and all dairy sensitive. I turned to Amazon and purchased the YuPik brand. To maintain freshness I store all my flours/meals, etc. in containers in the freezer. I bring the product out the day before I plan to bake so it warms naturally to room temperature.
Hi Nancy- I went from a drop spindle to an EEW6.1 . I took a workshop but found spinning wheels didn’t work for me ergonomically due to hand / wrist issues. The EEW allows me to stand up or sit sideways …whatever works for my hand that day. There is also now a Canadian distributor for them (Chaotic Fibres)
Hi Nancy. Hope your neck has improved and giving you any further trouble. I have a question about short rows. I use German Short Rows but on one side to me it's quite noticeable and sometimes there's a little hole/gap. Clearly I'm doing something not quite right and I've looked at RUclips and swear I'm doing exactly what they're showing me but I get the same results. Thanks for any thoughts.
I've had the same issues in the past. Check which side the holes are happening on. Once you know whether it is the purl or knit side, you'll be able to make adjustments. Hope that helps
Nostalgia! So well put. Exactly how I feel when I go 'home' I have more family here now than there but still feel the tug when I return. Thanks. Jane.
Yes, it is a powerful feeling, isn't it?
Snap! We have rain here today too.

I made a treacle sponge with the leftovers in the tin. It was delicious

It is a very satisfying and rhythmic process isn't it?

I think golden syrup was posh 😆😆
