    Hi Karolina. The same thing happened to me this year. The main role of the host venue is to advertise for the vendors; that is what the vendors are paying for. I gave that feedback to the host venue. Your products are lovely.

    Beforee you sign up for any fair ask what they will be doing in the way of Marketing and the expected number of attendees. Also, ask how they anticipate those attendees learning about the fair, to generate the foot traffic. If you aren't comfortable with the answers, then find a different fair to attand.

      @KarolinasKrafts Also, sometimes the elementary craft fairs can be good, especially if you have items under $5 that kids would like to give to their parent. I have seen parents give their kids a few $ to spend Christmas shopping at such because it is viewed as a safe place for the child to shop.

    Hi Karolina! I'm originally from long Island (Hampton Bays) and I find the schools are the best bc of student/teacher support...as a fellow resource teacher (just retired) I would of supported you and would have LOVED to meet you! I purchased sourdough starter from you on your Etsy Shop! I just started experimenting w/ sourdough (for digestive health) and I got a dehydrator for my birthday this month! I believe each fair is so different, your execution of presentation and set up was top notch...I think it will get better for you! Thank you for sharing your experience! Crafty hugs! Kathleen 🤗

      @@katspaperdesigns5146 I’m definitely going to have to sign up for one at a school next time, from what everyone is saying, those seem to be the best. Do you still live around the area?
      So glad you’ve started with sourdough! It is definitely easier digested by your body because of the fermentation process! And honestly I just love it. I love making everything from scratch and knowing what ingredients go into my food!
      One of my favorite things to make in the dehydrator is fruit leather, like homemade fruit roll up, tastes sooo delicious and only consists of 3 ingredients: real fruit, sugar and lemon ! And i dehydrate my herbs I grow over the summer too. So excited for you on your sourdough and dehydrating journey ! Next up will be a canner so you can make and preserve some food too!

    I would highly recommend before you sign on to a craft fair, walk it and sign up the next year. See what kind of vendors, traffic and advertising before you pay for a spot. My kids volunteered at their high school annual Jingle Bell fair so I knew what those items were before. No one else had papercrafts like mine but there were 3 tumbler vendors selling very similar product, 6 jewelry, and 4 vendors with knit items so they had a lot of competition.

    Oh that is a shame. I usually do 2 school craft shows and one for a farmer's market Christmas show. The shows that are well advertised and long running seem to be the best to do. I have my last one this coming Saturday it is late for it but one of my better shows. I do cards, albums, ornaments and more.... The one show I did for years started falling short for me $50 less then last year was $200 less so I did not do it this year. From what I heard the show was slow for some and really good for others. Some of my best sales come from local friends and farmer's market customers. I hope you have a better shows next year. One a side note I upped my cards to $4 each and they seem to sale better. Your cards are stunning and you should be able to get more from them. Love all your creations. Thanks for sharing your ideas and creations.

    So sorry this one did not turn out. Sounds like they just threw it together maybe to take advantage of the school craft fair that same day. I did a couple like this and I chalked it up to a learning experience. The ones I do now are all in the same town with the spring and Christmas ones being at the same place. The 3rd is the same town, but one where it is down main street. And I have been there when other vendors do not chat, even with their customers, which is crazy. I find that engagement with the people walk through is key even if you only get out hi or merry Christmas. You might check with the school and see if the do another event during the year. People will look for vendors that they bought items from before. You've got this. My 1st year was a bit rough too. Super proud you took this step it can be very scary.

That being said, I cant believe no one bought anything. Your stuff is great! I have made a lot of of your creations and they always sell. You were at a dud. Also, if this was their first show, typically, they have little foot traffic.

    • @KarolinasKrafts
      @KarolinasKrafts  Месяц назад

      While I agree we can post, I also disagree. I think the venue hosting really needs to advertise to make it successful. They’re doing a craft fair for a reason, to make money from the vendors. In order to make sure vendors want to sign up again, they also need to advertise. The school craft fair down the road had a ton of advertising whereas this one has just one sign near the location.

    Don't feel bad. My friend who is a graphic designer and makes stunning Christmas Cards couldn't sell them for $5.00 each. She drop the price to $2.00 each and they all sold. She said she took a loss on the fee and supplies and just wanted to leave. She said she will never sell her cards again. Even on Etsy, she had to drop the price by 50% to sell any of them.
    In these tight financial times, people want a "deal" and not pay for your materials or time....that's the bottom line. She said, one customer who was being respectful and polite to her told her, "why would I pay $5.00 or even $2.00 for one card when I can go to Hallmark and get a box of 15 of $8.00? Of course, she tried to defend her position of being hand made, but I really don't think most people care about that. And another women told her, " I come to craft fairs to find great deals, not spend more money on something I can purchase that is professional done" . A lot of people think that way.
    Personally, I've been to many craft fairs over the years and most of them are over rated and people are trying to make a quick buck selling poorly made items. It's sad when a good product doesn't sell.

      That's so frustrating! Some folks don't get that 'craft' fairs are NOT the same as flea markets and yard sales where things are going to be more bargain priced. Craft fairs/shows are full of one-of-a-kind handmade creations that you can't just go buy at Walmart! We put so much of ourselves into our items, that it stings alot to hear comments like that. 😔

    It’s so disappointing when a craft show is bad because it’s a lot mentally and physically preparing for shows and when shows especially Christmas (December) shows are bad to me it’s puzzling where else can you go and purchase wonderful handmade items for gifts and stocking stuffers and potentially spend under $10.00 for each item if you want, say you want to give a little something to the school bus driver or a neighbor maybe your favorite teacher/co worker tea bag holders and hot cocoa packs are great for this! I think this year it’s not so much about people not having the funds I am seeing a lot of people that are not in the usual festive holiday mood 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @KarolinasKrafts
      @KarolinasKrafts  Месяц назад

      Yes people didn’t seem in the holiday spirit at this fair, not even the vendors. Sure their booths were set up Christmasy, but the holiday spirit wasn’t there. It takes certain kind of people to appreciate handmade goodies and to get them for teachers, coworkers, even the mailman (or mail women) and the sanitation workers! And I even thought this fair would be better than my last because it’s closer to the holidays and thought for sure people would need last minute gifts.

      @ oh no !! That is discouraging for sure, but the next one will be better. You just have to keep at it! I mean, I’ve only done two so far and my first one was pretty good and the second one was a dud as you see

    I think there may need to be more activities than just a craft fair.

      Do you mean other activities at the fair to attract people? Like photos with Santa ?

    I would never charge an extra %for credit cards. It’s a cost of doing business and is just rude and not professional in my opinion. If I didn’t take credit cards, I’d lose sales. I’d rather pay the % than to lose the whole sale. If you use Square, the fees aren’t that bad in the overall picture. People will tend to buy more, too, using a credit card.

      I don’t think it’s rude at all where in NY, many small shops, deli’s, contractors etc charge extra for using credit cards. It’s personal preference and up to what you decide and prefer. If it’s worth it to you to cover the cost then great but not something I wanted to do when in my opinion my prices were already low

      @ And when I run into a shop like that on vacation, I walk out. So raise the price a tick if it’s an issue but it’s penalizing the shopper who has become accustomed to paying without cash. Many fast food places are only accepting cards now and not cash. But you are correct…it’s all in how we perceive things. Oh, I live outside of Chicago. When I go into the city, I’ve not run into this.

    I don't think paper crafting is a good seller at craft fairs.

      It really depends on the fair. No matter in the country I'm visiting I look for papercrafts at the fairs❤
