Thanks Capt. Mike. First time using braid and needed a way to put fluorocarbon leader. Looked at many knots, tried the FG knot for a couple of nights and could not get it with my big, old fingers/hands (slightly arthritic) but, using your Crazy Alberto knot tutorial, I was able to tie a great small knot the first try and I kept practicing, felt good to finally have success lol. Pretty sure the drag will give before the knot. Thanks again.
I've been searching for an easy , elegant and small diameter knot for braid to mono ( that's easy to tie) for ages. Tried heaps but this one is the best. Thanks for a simple tutorial. Tight lines.
Mike I realize this video been out there for a while yet I tried this knot and wow I love it it is low profile and can tell you strong as titanium! This will be knot of choice for me tiring braid to floro! Been torn double uni forever knot ;-) anymore! Thx.
A world of thanks. Without exaggeration, I have been trying to tie a braid to mono shock leader for three years. I got this on the first try. I cannot thank you enough. Jake - from Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn.
I was looking for a new knot, but seeing this video I realized that you showed us my favourite knot. I also do your exact number of spires that I can assure to be more than sufficient
Great video. I was a big user of the FG Knot and still like it, but I started doing bay Grouper/Snapper fishing here in Tampa Bay and would suffer a lot of break-offs. I moved to the Alberto as it is an excellent knot and is so very fast to tie on a new leader. I now use it almost exclusively and only bother with the FG for very large diameter mono. The other nice thing about your Alberto is if you keep a pair of nail clippers handy the tag end of the mono/flouro can be nipped extremely close to the braid and it is a very smooth knot.
Capt Mike I love tying this knot, been fishing for a year now (5 days a week), I tie this all the time along with the San Diego Jam and Palomar, I have never had this knot fail. I have had line snap (Braid) in front but never has the knot failed even tied incorrectly!
Definently going to learn how to tie this knot! I'm a beginner and I'm starting to realize that here in Finland Northern Pikes are really common fish and even you're targeting Perch or Zander the Pikes are out there, that as I learn how to fish better, the pikes are getting bigger and you start to lose more lures and fish. :D Also when jigging in rocky shores and bays the fluorcarbon seems a must thing.
Not only it's extremely strong, but it's also beautiful and clean. Thanks for sharing! And BTW any news about your boat? if you don't mind me asking...
I watched this video shortly after being published. Switching from the double uni, permanently. This is a much stronger knot. I have yet to break off my entire leader from my braided line, time and time again, it's my hook.
It certainly beats the FG for ease of use - great vid explainer and easy to follow! Here's a slightly different version I've been using quite successfully over the last years. If you put a double granny (hitch) in the mono at the start, and slightly tighten it to where it starts to twist around itself and form a figure8, then pass the braid through the first loop of said figure8 followed by the 2nd loop, do the 7 to 14 return twists (depending on braid/line dia) and finally pass it the same way back again through the 2 loops of the granny knot, you'll end up with a knot that will be slightly more conical shaped and as such move better through your guides when surf/bait casting. A reverse version is called a slim beauty I think... Haven't named this one yet but might call it an even slimmer beauty ;)
I have switched from double uni to this knot a while back. It’s quick to tie and strong! In my head I was calling it an Albright but it is the Alberto I understand now. Good stuff.
THis is my second favorite knot. My favorite is the FG knot with the rizzo finish. Best knot strength, a little more difficult to tie at first. But it outperforms the backing knot used here. With that said I have never had either of these knots fail.
@@Hatvocate do you dude diligence when making bold claims like that! Yeah the FG knot is fantastic, IF , and that is a huge IF, you are using smaller diameter braid than ur leader material. If they are both equal diameter, i.e. 15lb braid and 6lb fluoro, the FG knot is going to slip. It's like trying to climb up a rope in gym class that's made of parachute cord, just not enough surface area to get the grip needed. Watch the instructionals for it, anyone that knows their stuff will add at the end of the tutorial, "THIS KNOT IS FOR CONNECTIONS THAT HAVE SMALLER DIAMETER BRAID."
Nice clean knot...been using uni to uni, can feel it hit every guide......I think I'll be able to remember it. I like your sock analogy also. Tight lines 😎
I've been using this knot for years but I'm watching this video today because I've been having a problem using it on my ultralight spinning rig. I'm using about a 10', 8# test Shimano Flourocarbon leader with 6# braid and the knot, while still on the spool, keeps catching the line during casts so I'm looking for a smaller knot. I'm not sure what you call it but they use it for making DIY fly fishing tipets. It's basically an over hand knot made while the lines lay parallel. For tipets, the knot is usually doubled but for "regular" fishing I've seen a 4x overhand knot. I'm going to spit the difference and try. 3x. It's like a surgeons knot but not.
Wow tried this for the first time was getting frustrated cause I’m using 10lb onto 14lb and I’ve got big fingers 😂 but got it first time and man it’s a primo knot. I just hope the 1st one wasn’t a fluke 😂😂 thank you
Neat one. You could also add a few half hitches with the braid tag. That would form a slight build up and cause it to run through the guides even smoother.
I'd love to see a video devoted to uses of the Bimini Twist. Bimini with Crazy Alberto, Albright, Uni and whatever else you use. Also, how long of a loop for different applications. I know you've covered some of these questions in various videos but it would be great to have a more or less exhaustive tutorial on what you can do with a Bimini Twist.
I use this knot all the time it is easy & tough but I found that if you go back through the loop the opposite way it stops the last wrap from coming off the mono when you pull it up tight.
I like to put a tiny drop of superglue on my Alberto knots after I cinch them tight. Not sure if it makes that much of a difference but it is just the way I was originally taught to tie them so it stuck with me. Either way, great video. Cheers.
Great knot. I really like to tie a bimini twist and then make the connection, particularly with a short leader. If I'm fishing a short leader around structure, having that section of doubled spectra really gives me confidence. I have caught fish and had one of the legs of the bimini broke off. No bimini and I'd have lost the fish and the jig.
I use this knot but I don’t wrap back down like you did. But I have issues with it going out of my top eye guide. So I usually stop it before the top guide. I like using this one cause it is an easy not. I just do a few wraps and back through the opposite way. Works good
After clipping the mono side of the tag end- take the braid tag end and do a few half hitches around where you cut the mono, then cut off remaining tag end. this will smooth the path for the knot to go through the guides easier and not get hung up by the mono tag.
I’ve tried a bunch of knots and this is by far the best one
same, salt strong knots sucked honestly but I think it's the braid/mono and size.
Best knot video on RUclips. You rule the underground
Thank you for the tutorial, the way you demonstrate and explain how to tie the knot is everything that I couldn't find in other peoples tutorials.
First time I tried this knot. Took me 2 times to watch your video and 2 tries to get it right. Real simple and strong. Thanks!!!
Thanks Capt. Mike. First time using braid and needed a way to put fluorocarbon leader. Glad I could help
This is my go-to knot, great demo. It is also doable in the wind, since I kayak fish a lot, that is important.
Mike I realize this video been out there for a while yet I tried this knot and wow I love it it is low profile and can tell you strong as titanium! This will be knot of choice for me tiring braid to floro! Been torn double uni forever knot ;-) anymore! Thx.
This video is super helpful. I’m terrible at remembering knots, but this seated it onto my brain. Thanks a lot.
A world of thanks. Without exaggeration, I have been trying to tie a braid to mono shock leader for three years. I got this on the first try. I cannot thank you enough. Jake - from Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn.
Thanks for the free knowledge 🎣
This video is still proving to be very helpful. Thank you for sharing it.
You da Man Capt. Mike! Thanks for the great video...this is my go to knot now!! :)
Fantastic braid/line knot even for smaller sub 10lb line. ty
It's been a couple years since I looked up knot tying. But damn I'm glad I did today. This knot looks and feels perfect. Thanks

That's all anyone should be using it for - very large diameter leaders. That's what it was designed for and where its only solid advantage is.
@@markrigg6623 define large diameter
@Keydet1992 Its the ratio of the diameter of the main line to the leader thats important. When the leader's 3 or 4 times thicker is what I go by.
Great knot, simple and quick thanks
great knot thanks easy to follow
Just saw your video and tied my 30lb braid to 12 lb flourocarbon, came out so nice and tiny! Can’t wait to cast it! Thanks
@Cameron Fare 30lb braid is very thin so I can add a ton of line and it lasts forever, I only have to re tie a short piece of leader when it frays.
Got it on the first try. Thanks for the video great knot
Capt Mike I love tying this knot, been fishing for a year now (5 days a week), I tie this all the time along with the San Diego Jam and Palomar, I have never had this knot fail. I have had line snap (Braid) in front but never has the knot failed even tied incorrectly!
Great to hear David. Catch em up!
Tried and tested. Best knot so far👍
I LOVE THIS KNOT🔥🔥🔥💪🏼💨🐟
Excellent closeups, great camera work
Thanks mate. Great knot lesson, and thanks to you I'm catching heaps of bait in my cast net.
Great knot and an excellent tutorial! I use it with 30lb braid to 8-20lb mono or flouro and it's really easy. Thanks!
Thanks! I’ve tried other knots and it was a mess, This is easy and it works!
I love this knot, this is my go-to. Nice visual tutorial.
Thanks, knots are my Bain ! This one worked , it ain’t easy using lighter lines .
Thanks so much for this, just tied it and it is so much easier and faster than the FG and it seems to be thinner. Now to try it!
It’s good to know all those knots.
Ok, it may not be thinner than the fg but it is way more reliable, faster, and still pretty thin. No failures yet.
Nailed it first shot this video made life easy!! Cheers mate!!
I really love this knot and did not had a problem to repeat it! Thank you for the great tutorial!
Love this knot!!

Good knot, good knot😊
Thank you! Your video made making this knot a lot easier after struggling with others, and I can't wait to put it to use.
Thanks again for the how-to! Love this knot.

Excellent video. Thank you.
Excellent video & knot. I have watched & tried so many different knots & this one I was finally able to do it & it works great. Thank you so much
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I literally tied a damn near perfect knot on the first try!!
Awesome video mate.
Thanks for the info will be using this for sure when I go beach fishing next week🎣🎣🎣

Yes, same thing speaking for me. I also noticed that in Uni to Uni knot the braid somehow cuts the monofilament and this makes it weaker
Thank you for doing this! I'm using this for now on!
Great knot. Thanks
Thankyou this helped me loads
Will be giving this a try!
Awesome presentation 👏 👌 Thanks 😊 👍

Nothing beats FG, just that many do “knot” know how to tie or are just lazy. But I agree, this works as a great backing knot.
FG all day for finesse Lure fishing, goes through the guides easily as finesse rods have tiny guides

Such a great knot. Will it work all right for braid to braid as well?
Thanks for This knot
Love this vid. So sweet knot here
Nice tutorial very clear visual representation

Nice n Stong Knot.

Just what i needed to know. Thanks.
Excellent! Thankyou!
Thank you so much for the video! This is exactly what I was looking for. Been having issues with the knot I had been using.

This is exactly what I needed to learn. Thanks for the How To!💯

this knot is just as strong as fg but so much easier to do. thanks for the info.

I like it. Have you tied this with 100# braid and 100# leader?
I tie 80lb braid to 100-130lb mono for musky or catfish. Works great.
I have, and it works well. You might want to warm up the 100# leader to get a tight fold, as it's very thick and stiff.
