  • How much does it cost to turbo a car? In this video we go over just that! I go over the complete build costs for my turbo build on my Mazda MX5 Miata. I also give an expected budget for each part needed to turbo your own car, as well as some suggestions on how to do it reliably on a budget. I go over my thoughts on turbo kits, as well as my thoughts on how to make cheaper, ebay and Amazon parts work together, to keep pricing down. Enjoy, and check out my build spreadsheet below!

      While I haven’t used one, buying a name brand turbo should get you better reliability and performance, as well as data to help you properly size a turbo for your car! If I weren’t working on a tight budget I’d have bought a better turbo. That said, ebay turbos do the same thing and have been generally proven quite reliable, theyre just a bit more of a mystery with technical data

    Honestly, I believe you coulda turbo'd your car for $600-$700 instead of $1000 like you said.....the one that takes the biggest chuck has to be the ECU. Get a bipes ACU and call it a day LOLLLLL.

      Honestly my supercharger Mp62 build was only $2000....im only 20 and i hand built the whole supercharger kit. Brackets, pulley, piping. The one that took the biggest chuck out of my supercharger budget has to be the ECU. Megasquirt for NB. Sometimes i wished i went with a bipes ACU....just retard the ignition timing by 1-2 degree and call it a day......

    • @WhoopAzzRacing
      @WhoopAzzRacing 3 года назад

      @@CashedOutCars I understand what you're saying however that is it the best way to gauge how much you gained for your thousand dollars and how it Stacks up in comparison to like the kits as most small kits with ECU and injectors like the CXRacing T28 will produce 200 to 250 horsepower on a 1.6 and even bigger numbers with the T3 T4 Turbo on a 1.8 basically it's very cool you were able to do it for $1,000 however if the results are not the same as the kits or close to the same it's worth spending the extra money as I did the budget route myself but bought a kit and then sourced like injectors and a megasquirt also a 255 fuel pump and got to 220 wheel horsepower and 185 foot pounds of torque to the wheels and as I race my car waiting to get on the dyno was not an option As I push my car to the limits twice a month 9 months out of the year so I'm just curious on how it Stacks up against the other stuff

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  3 года назад +3

      Once it’s retuned I’ll make a video on it, it should easily make around what a CX / MK turbo kit makes, they use inexpensive turbos as well. My goal with this build isn’t peak power, it’s reliability. To me I’d rather have something that starts every time and reliably produces 180-200 whp or so than push the turbo and start to push the internals. At that point it’s no longer budget if you’re making enough power to blow transmissions and engines😂Stay tuned for power figures, should be out in a month or so!

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  3 года назад +2

      Mine is a very similar build to the Tom’s Turbo Garage build, he used the same manifold, very similar eBay turbo (even though they’re hard to tell if they’re exact since it’s eBay) and a similar pieced together setup, if you haven’t checked his out I’d take a look! His engine management is totally different and he did end up with an external wastegate, but this is before ECUs like SpeedyEFIs were around miata.turbomirage.com

      @@CashedOutCars I will be looking for the numbers and as your reliability comment my car starts every time runs great drive it on the street regularly 80 miles to and from work and like I said I race it twice a month I would have to say that is extremely reliable on a completely stock engine stock transmission and stock rear end with an upgraded clutch from eBay so I guess I don't really understand or get where you are implying that the way you did it will be much more reliable then going with a premade kit I understand you saved money but I don't see where there's going to be extra reliability I'm not hating on you on in any way I just want to see if it's Apples to Apples or apples to oranges
