Great teacher loved it. I am brand new at this and almost 68 yes old But deeply in love with this .. I am determined to get my own channel before I am 70. Thank you Jody Duncan
Thank you, Tara, for explaining your color mixing in such an understandable way. It helped me a lot to actually SEE the thinness of the paint. And it releaves me a little seeing you use for Dutch blows a pouring medium. And thank you, too, for telling us that it costed you a year to get enough confidence in mixing. So, I myself can breathe lighter to hear that. Thanks again! I love your art!
Thank you so much for the feedback Iris! I know what it feels like to be a newbie so I’m happy to pass on any info I’ve gleaned. Let me know if you ever have any questions! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
You’re very welcome!! Pourcon was so much fun but with so many teachers, so many classes and so little time I knew there would be questions so I thought I’d try to head them off at the pass! ❤️🙏🏻☺️
Tara, this is by far the most clear instruction for cell and Dutch pour recipes. Thank you for taking the time to show measurements and consistency. Now off to put it in action!
Tara, I'm a brand new subscriber to your channel. I can't tell you how many people I have watched to try and get what you gave us for pearl cells. Your the first person to REALLY show and explain what to do exactly. Amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now off to try this recipe. Excited to see your dad's channel as well
Thanks Barbara! That is such a great compliment. I really appreciate all I have learned from others and as I study and experiment I’m happy to share and pass on what I learn. I’m confident you will enjoy my Dad’s channel as well. Thanks for subscribing and if you ever have any questions please feel free to ask here or in an email! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
This video is extremely helpful. I appreciate your honesty about taking a year to feel confident to "eyeball" your mixes. I've ordered a scale, and every time I practice on tile I feel like I'm getting closer. Thank you for your encouragement and sharing you talent!
I bought over the door pantry shelves. Looks a lot like yours. I love them because they are not deep and can hold a lot. I have signed up for your class in May 2024 in Asheville. I am new to all this and I am so excited and a little nervous. See you then!!
Thank you so much. I have been trying every mixture out there. The tip about comparing to the Golden color was the trick I needed. I mix a Golden color first then make the base. Works like a charm. Now I can concentrate on colors and composition. Thanks again.
Awesome Janna! I’m so glad you found it helpful! Keep me posted on your progress. I always love to see photos if you want to email me or DM me on Instagram! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Hah ha! Tara, So I had this video already saved in my list to watch later for when I mixed stuff up for this technique! 😊 Ugh I have EVERYTHING except for the satin enamels which is slowly getting here but not quick enough. I'm soo excited to try it out!! Wish me luck and I'll let ya know how it turns out from someone that has NEVER tried to do it before! Yeahhhh, its kind of daunting! LOL! This video will help me so so much! And you make it sooo easy to follow! THANK YOU!! 🙏
Hey Heather! I hope you have success. You can omit the GAC800 all together just substitute a little note Liquitex pouring medium. The GAC 800 is to help with cracking and crazing but I think u can get away with substituting the Liquitex. Keep me posted on your results! ☺️🙏🏻
I am fairly new to acrylic paint pouring and watched your video on this beautiful pour. The colors and dimensions of your wave is incredible. The tutorial gave an incredible visual of how you create the wave. Absolutely love it!
You are welcome. I actually have a newer updated video with the new Artist Loft Soft Body recipe. The Artist Loft Flow White is no longer available. Here is the link if you would like to check it out: ruclips.net/video/QV6BtLChRi0/видео.html Hope this helps! ❤️🙏🏻🤣
You are so helpful, and down to earth. Wish we could buy your products in South Africa. Love, love, love your style of painting. Wish I had a painting room. I have part of the study, and the dining room table…… 🥴🥴🥴🥴
Lol...thanks so much Jedanna. I live in a very small home but fortunately my husband has endulged me in our basement so I’m thankful to have a dedicated room to paint! I’m so glad you found this video helpful. I know these results are achievable in SA...you may just need to experiment with some different paint brands. You could try Satin House paint mixed with paint and a tad pouring medium that you can get in your country. I know GAC 800 is expensive there but invest in a small amount and use it sparingly to keep the paint from cracking. This recipe I use is not exclusive to getting these results. To be honest I use several different recipes depending on what I am going to be doing that pour. I really hope you are able to have success! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Thank you so so much! I honestly don't know what the best supplies for Aussies are. If you can get Decoart Satin Enamel in Australia that is you best bet. I have heard that the Mont Marte white is a good white substitute. I hope this helps! ❤️🙏😊
Hi Tara 😁 I'm unfortunately out of the Behr 7300 and dying to try this technique. You mentioned in a video (can't find it now of course) that you can use the decoart satin enamel instead of the Behr (which I'll be getting more soon) I have no patience for waiting dying to try this just love the effects and your art is stunningly beautiful.... Thank you 😁
Thank you Tara for the tutorial, I see what I was doing wrong and I cannot wait to try what you have just taught me. Keep up the wonderful work you have been doing.
Thanks so much! I'm not sure if you have seen it but I have a more updated pearl mixing video using the new Artist Loft Soft Body Formula. It from January of this year.
Yes Cathy they are pretty close to the same consistency. If your pour over paints are a tad thicker that’s ok though. Just so they are close and you stretch stretch stretch those pour over paints pretty quickly. Hope this helps! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Tara Thank you so much for your videos. This is so detailed. Great work. I have recently found your channel and I love your talent , originality and generosity in sharing. Thank you. Your dad is awesome too. I loved the way he created a frame around his work using frog tape. I tried to find frog tape unfortunately not available any more. The talents runs in the family. Bravo to both of you.
Thank you so much for your kind words about me and my Dad. They are so thoughtful. I’m not sure where you are located but in the US you can get Frog Tape at any of the large home stores, paint stores, and here is a link to buy it on Amazon. I hope you have success! www.amazon.com/FrogTape-1358463-Multi-Surface-Painting-Inches/dp/B002Z8HB2A
Great tutorial..can you give the exact specifics on what Behr satin enamel you use, e.g.7300 deep base, color of the can. I always end up buying the wrong product when I don’t have a picture of the product. Thank you.
Thanks Judy! I use multiple satin enamels. Behr 7300 deep base at 2 parts (for white or colored pearls), Behr 7050 at 2 parts (for white pearls) or DecoArt satin enamel pure white at .5-1 part (for white pearls). I hope this helps! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Tara this was great thank you! I learned so very much, first that I was using way to much paint! I didn’t realize that I could use that much pouring medium with Golden and Amsterdam paints!
Thanks Margaret. Yes you can use Liquitex Titanium White. Or any other cheap brand of white paint will most likely work but I know that Liquitex does work. Just steer clear of Amsterdam. It does not work well. 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Excellent, excellent, informative video! Thank you so much for sharing your experiments and creations. It’s funny, I was able to do the “MelyD, Dwight pours” dump and swirl technique on the first try and get the pearls with the black center, but after about 10 times trying the One with the white base and putting colors on and getting the pearls there I have failed every time. 🤪😢😞. I was able to get perfect consistency with the dump and swirl but can’t seem to get the other one. I’m going to sit it out even more and try again tomorrow. I am a relatively new viewer to yours and your father’s channel and I love both of them. Thank you so much for taking your time out to make videos such as this one. Your art is amazing!
Thank you so much! Yea...this is a tricky technique and thin base paint is a real must. The puddle colors should be thin too but can be just a tad thicker... Another really big must is to stretch the paint and keep just a very thin layer on the canvas so stretching is key too. Hope that helps! Keep me posted on your results! ❤️🙏🏻
This was EXTREMELY helpful to me .. I’ve been super curious about the Pearl cell technique.. ty Pretty new at this stuff and want to be like a sponge and learn learn learn .. and Hopefully improve & grow as a go .. lol 🤓
I’m so glad it was helpful! I love that you want to soak this all in. That’s how I was when I started too. I have been doing this for 2 years now. ☺️🙏🏻❤️
I attended your pearl class at PourCon. I have a question, I see you brush the edges with paint out of a tube. What is the next layer called and what is its recipe before your pour you pearl cell mixture.over that. At PourCon most everything was mixed for us and I can't find my notes! Had an awesome time, Thank You.
Hi Joanne! Pourcon is kind of a blur now but a beautiful blur! The basecoat layer is the layer with the satin enamel recipe. The pour over layer is the top layer that you stretch over the basecoat. Here is a refresher from right after Pourcon: ruclips.net/video/zg5TTCWUJnA/видео.htmlsi=85gY_syfwAjvGwnS All the recipes are in the description box if you tap on the title to the video. ❤️☺️😁
You are very welcome Montana. Just an FYI-the info in this video is still really informative but I have a more current video of you are interested…ruclips.net/video/QV6BtLChRi0/видео.html It has updated recipes with current products. ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Hi Tara. Thanks for the video! I have Decoart Satin Enamels in different colors, as well as the metallics. Can they be used in the puddle paints? They seem to have a really different consistency than the tubes or Golden liquids. What would your ratio be for those?
Hi Robin! You can substitute the Behr Satin enamel for the DecoArt Satin Enamel at 1/2 part. As far as the puddle paints go…you can use the metallics they just don’t pearl up well. The only metallic paints that pearl well that I have found are Modern Masters and Some Golden Iridescent colors that have a heavier density. DecoArt metallics are too light in density to allow the under pearl paints to pop through. But if you want a contest where you don’t want a lot of pearls those are good paints to use. Just an fyi- you should not use satin enamel in the puddle paint. Satin enamel in the phase and satin enamel in your puddle = NO Pearls…if that makes sense. ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Awesome Lisa! Thanks for subbing. I have a more recent paint mixing video with the new Artist Loft formula. You may want to check it out! ruclips.net/video/QV6BtLChRi0/видео.html
Thanks for doing this I have been trying to figure this recipes for awhile. A lot of frustration because everything was not working. Thanks again I am gonna try one more time!
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry it worked oooooh I am so happy Thank you infinity times 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 it need a bit of practice the corners are hard to control I forgot to paint the canvas before hand, so the paint didn’t stick enough at the corners but considering all things it looks great! Thanks again!!!
Hi Marcelle! Thank you so much. As far as pouring over a varnished piece…I’m not sure but I don’t see why not…I would prep it with gesso first tho so you aren’t pouring directly on the varnish. ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Hi Tara, I did it! I didn’t have deco art satin enamel I bought a satin enamel paint n used it. I didn’t have artist loft flow white so I used Atelier titanium white paint (tube) n mix it with Mont matte flow medium n added it to the rest of your recipe. Where can I send you the painting I did today? ❤️
AWESOME! I love how you brake things down and explain them. My confidence has been boosted and I'm ready to try this(have to go to work atm..but will definitely give this a go later tonight) Thank you so so so much for your time in sharing this Tara😊. I want to make a donation and will asap😉❤
Katherine you are so sweet! Thank you for your kind words. It really boosts my morale to know that I’m helping others out there! If u have any questions please feel free to ask here or drop me an email at taralombardi1010@gmail.com. ❤️☺️🙏🏻
I've watched your video and had very positive results. I finally got the shelves and can you tell me what size screws you used? Mine didn't come with any 😖
Hi Emm! I’m so glad you have had positive results. As far as the shelves go…I honestly couldn’t tell you the size. I think I got them in a little package at the dollar store. I’m so sorry I can’t be more helpful! 😔☺️❤️🙏🏻
Thank you for a clear video on your measurements. It was great! I wonder if Amsterdam white would work instead of the Artist Loft white? My Michaels is out of the Artist Loft!
That’s a good question. I feel like it should. Amsterdam is known for its cellular reaction. Artist loft is used in this technique mostly because it is cheap and yet still a great base coat. If you use it let me know your results and I will pass them on! 🙏🏻❤️
Tara, thank you for this tutorial. I cannot find Artist Loft Flow Acrylic anywhere. Every search I do I get Artist Loft Soft Body Acrylic. Did they change the name, maybe? Are they the same thing? If not, what do you suggest as an alternative? Thank you so much. I am trying to get all the supplies together so I can try out this technique. Can't wait!!
Hi Lora! Thank you so much for watching. So yes, Artist Loft Changed their formula in 2020 from the Flow to the Soft Body. When they did that it messed up the whole pearl process. So we had to modify the recipe. Here is the video with the modifications: ruclips.net/video/QV6BtLChRi0/видео.html Also, stay tuned because Friday I will be releasing a video with a new pearl formula that’s super easy! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
On your gac 800 , mix half xhalf of gac and flood , is that with the entire receipt ? When mixing in tub paints ? Or before you mix the gac and flood together ? If that makes sence .. thanks 4 sharing ..
Hi Lisa. I’m not sure I am understanding you correctly but the half gac/half floetrol mix is the pouring medium I use for my Dutch pour and pour over colors only. I mix that pouring medium with my tube paints and fluid paints. My tube paints are mixed 1 part paint to 5 parts pouring medium. The fluid paints are mixed 1/2 part paint to 5 parts pouring medium. I hope that answers your question. Also, the video that you are watching is an older video. I have a new video the talks about HOW I MIX MY PAINTS FOR THE PEARL POUR 2022. It is under videos on my channel. You may want to check that out. 🙏🏻☺️
Thanks Tammy. You could give it a try. The GAC’s purpose is to keep the paint from cracking so you could try it...I’m thinking it should work. You may just need to add a little more water. ☺️
Hi Carolyn…this is an older video but I think it was the Behr 7050. The Oure white. I have changed to either the 7300 deep base OR the 7753 deep base depending on the paint colors I want to use.
Yes. You can make colored cells in a variety of ways. Here is the video on how I make my pearl cells color: ruclips.net/video/y8F7QVVqLL8/видео.html You can also make colored pearl cells from the DecoArt satin enamel colors (you obviously would omit the artist loft white from the recipe). Here is another video showing that: ruclips.net/video/J6m3tgWQabs/видео.html
Txz for the share! I’m wondering when making up your cloud base if Behr deep base satin enamel can give same effects when you call for Behr satin in the base color. so it isn’t as strong a white color ( artist loft will make it white basically...)?
That’s a good question Jeanne. I haven’t used the deep base without tint. I’m not sure if it would work out or not. I do think that the artist loft paint helps in the reaction tho. If you go a few videos back, I did some experimenting and found that the satin house paint that I left the artist loft white paint out of didn’t react as much as the ones with artist loft in it. Once I added the artist loft white back into the recipe it reacted much better. Sorry I couldn’t be more helps. If you do the experiment and it works out, let me know so I can forward the info on. 🙏🏻☺️
Great tutorial, I’ve been wanting to step away from resin a bit and give this a try. I wish I was relaxed as much as you are in front of a camera, lol.
Oh my goodness Laura...I’m not very comfortable AT ALL! Most of my videos I use voice over to explain because I’m not a fan of doing it as I go. That paint mixing video I got really chatty but it’s because it’s something I really wanted to share! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Yes in this video it is the Pure White Behr Satin Enamel. You could use the untinted but I’m not sure the ratios. You may have to play with it. I’d start with the 2 parts Untinted satin enamel and 3 to 4 parts artist loft white. You don’t have to do that but that’s what I’d suggest from my experience with both of those paints.I hope you have success…keep me posted! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Hi Charlene! Gac 900 is not a replacement for gac 800. Gac 800 is specifically a pouring medium designed for pouring art. Gac 900 is a medium you add to acrylics for fabric painting. That being said…if you have gac 900 on hand and wanna try it…you might find success. 🤷🏻♀️🤔❤️☺️🙏🏻
Hi Francine... it’s funny you say that because I have been thinking the same thing! It can probably be omitted and still be fine. GAC 800 is a binder already so it should work. I think in my next pour I will try to omit it and see what happens. 👍☺️
Hey Tara! I hope you are thriving. You appear to mix together the GAC800 and Floetrol by volume. If I were to mix it by weight, do you think the difference would be negligible? I don't feel it needs to be exact but I'm not yet in the eyeball stage of comfort 😁. Thank you for sharing your experience to help us gain more 💞👏👏👏
Hi Grace...I actually mix her weighted oz on my scale. You can measure it either way as long as you use the part ratios. I tend to work in weighted oz because I’m terrible at math and it makes it easier for me! Hope this is helpful! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Again I loved the video, and follow the recipe for the base paint and the Amsterdam tube paint, but what I ended up with is a bunch of tiny little cells, more towards White specs. Can I pick your brain and maybe get some advice as to where I need to go from here? I'm really looking for the satin enamel to eat the paint if that makes sense...... Your help would be so greatly appreciated thank you ever so kindly
No that is correct! Use the Artist Loft White. I misunderstood your comment. You might need to thin the base paint down even more. It does take a good amount of paint and my water ratios are only a guide. Also, did I say you were using Amsterdam paints? If so what colors? Are they metallics?
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry this is so kind of you to speak to me and help me along with this and you don't know how much it's appreciated this is a pour that I have wanted to do forever and a day. I used Amsterdam's phalo turquoise. It is without a doubt one of my most favorite colors in the world. I'm going to put myself together and go back in there and put more water in my base and see how we do. Again your generosity is overwhelming
Carroll, the pleasure is all mine. Without seeing your consistencies and being next to you while you pour it’s tough to troubleshoot. I would try more water and also stretching off a very good portion of your paint is really important. I really hope you have success! Never hesitate to ask questions. I’m always willing to help! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
New to your channel, and your Dads, thanks to Cathleen from Coz creations. I also have done some fluid acrylic painting, love it, but I have very limited space and a cat, so it's hard. I also live in Wisconsin. You are doing an amazing job, love the way you mix techniques, and I was thinking about taping off canvas parts like you and your dad do, to frame the piece. Have to get some gac 800, I think it would give the colors more definition, my colors seem tu blend together more. Have you heard of Kenella Ciraco, she does awesome dutch pours. Keep doing what you do! I'll be watching you and your dad.
Thank you very much to explain so well the consistency we need for dutch pour . I am from France and I can' t get Gac 800 . Is it possible to use Liquitex instead ?
Yes absolutely you can use Liquitex... it is a bit thicker than the GAC 800 so you may just have to add a little more water. Thanks for watching! ❤️🙏🏻☺️
Thanks for posting this. Any tips as to why I end up with popcorn shaped pearls? And there seem to be 2 behr satin enamels. One with blue label one with purple. Which do you recommend?
Hi Michelle. I have noticed that I end up with odd shaped cells where I have left more paint in the canvas. Not sure if that is the situation in you case but that has been my experience. I use the Behr Premium Plus Satin Enamel in Ultra Pure White with the number 7050. I believe it is the blue label the number 7050 is the important thing. Hope this helps!
You are a brilliant teacher. I am a professional artist, but new to pouring. Your description of consistency is the best I have ever heard. I have watched literally a hundred videos and learned a lot from great artists...but I kept having consistency issues. I was pulling my stick far up above the surface of the paint in the cup and was not getting the results I was hoping for. Your explanation was like a light bulb going off. Absolutely brilliant! Can't wait to pour again to see what happens. Thank you!!! On a separate note, which you may address in your videos, is there a reason you don't use the Behr Satin Enamels exclusively? I see that you make some effort to get the Deco Art Satin Enamels.
Thank you Angela! I’m honored you think so highly of me! Consistency is so important in pouring...As far as the Behr Satin Enamel...I have switched to using the Behr Satin Enamel almost exclusively. DecoArt seems to always eat all of my paint. Almost all of my recent paintings have been with Behr. I did just run out of the Behr and used the DecoArt instead on a painting that you will see in a couple weeks...but that was only because I was out of the Behr. Hope that answers your question! If you ever have any other questions please feel free to reach out in the comments or email me! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
It does not have to be either of those brands. I only have experience with those and Pittsburg house paint in satin finish. Each brand of paint is a little different so you may need to play with the ratios a bit. I do have a video comparing different paints and ratios. I’ll link it here it might be helpful. That video also shows the result if you don’t add the artist loft white paint... ruclips.net/video/J6m3tgWQabs/видео.html Hope this helps! ❤️🙏🏻☺️
I can't get the deco art enamel can I use just the Behr satin enamel? And😁 where do you buy your GAC and Liquitex to get the best price? Thanks for your time😊
Yes Tera! You can just use the Behr Satin Enamel. I have a video a few back that shows the difference and ratios. I usually get my gac and Liquitex from JerrysArtarama.com or Blick. They have the best prices.
You use two colors I can never find! They are the golden fluid Interference Gold and Prussian Blue. Are there other colors that can be substituted for those and still get the same (or close) effect? Thank you!
Hi Sue. Thanks for watching. You can substitute pretty much any colors you want. Payne’s Grey is a good substitute for Prussian Blue and any sheer color would be fine over that. I have used all sorts of combos in my videos if you watch some of the others! 🙏🏻☺️
I went out and bought wrong paint !! I'm so confused. I thought any house paint brand with no tint to it. 3 or c. I also Americana was the satin enamel !oh I spoke to soon. Lol thanks
Hi Tara I followed your recipe and tried to get some pearl cells for the first time unfortunately I got very little could that be a sign that my consistency is to think the white pearl base coat was very thin but maybe my other colors weren’t thin enough 🤷♀️
Hello Kristen! So it could be many many variables...1. It could be the pour over paints that you used (no satin enamels in those paints), 2. It could be your base paint consistency (too thick...not normally too thin) 3. It could be the paints that you used as your pour over paints. Certain brands of paint do not work well. Most metallics are in that category. If you would like to email me some more info I can try to help you. I also do zoom private one on one tutorials to help trouble shoot. You can get more info about that on my website...www.piecesoftaraartistry.com OR email me at info@piecesoftaraartistry.com. Hope this helps!
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry thank you so much for taking the time to write me back I really appreciate it 🙏 I did use a lot of metallics so I think that maybe be the culprit I did a couple pours after that with regular paint and they turned out better 😊 I will definitely check out the one on one zoom info on your website thank you again so much ❤️
To be honest I haven’t had any problems with any of my colors reacting. I have heard the same but haven’t experienced any issues with colors not reacting. I have heard that metallics don’t react well but the Golden iridescent colors I have used have reacted just fine. I’m not sure about DecoArt metallics though. Sorry I couldn’t be more help there.
I am in awe of your work. I tried a practice piece and it didn’t develop very many cells, is the base coat consistency thicker or thinner than the puddle and Dutch pour consistency ?
Is Deco artist enamel the same or can be substituted with Sherwin Williams infinity interior semigloss ultrawhite paint. I was following another artist recipe and bought this. $61.00. Where can I use it
Hey Kim…sooo I have never tried a semi-gloss painting in a pearl pour. I know certain satin house paints work…I use Behr Premium Plus SATIN Enamel house paint in ultra pure white when I want to create white cells. You can substitute that instead of the DecoArt Satin Enamel. I have never used the semi-gloss so I can’t speak to if it will work or not but my bet is that it probably won’t BUT I could be wrong. I’m not sure if you do the bloom recipe but I think you could use the semi-gloss in that. I also only am just learning that technique so I’m not the one to ask about that unfortunately. I hope this helps! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Love this video! It helps me immensely! Now my quandary..... I keep asking my husband who is a carpenter mind you to please bring me home a gallon of behr satin enamel in white. Which to me breaks down to a gallon of behr paint, enamel not acrylic, in satin finish White... He argues with me every time.... Am I getting it wrong?? I do have some behr Enamel unintended in semi-gloss, which he mistakenly brought me for the bloom technique. Do you think this would work in a pour... And as a disclaimer I have to thank my husband for purchasing any of this for me!
Lol. Thanks Caroll! So here is what the paint can says: Behr Premium Plus, Interior Satin Enamel, Ultra Pure White, 7050. That is the one you need if you are wanting white cells. If you are wanting colored cells you need the Behr Ultra, Interior Satin Enamel, Deep Base, 7753 (this one is untinted). You will need to get the Satin not Semi-Gloss for it to work. Hope this helps!
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry thank you so much that helps immensely. And now I can ditch this can of untinted Behr semi gloss, that is taking up room beside my other 10 gallons of paint in my small space. I did get a lot of cells when I used it with the bloom recipe though.. decisions decisions
Hi Tara, I'm in a dilemma. I've tried the recipe for this pour but using amsterdam white instead of artist loft as I can't get artist loft. It didn't work. Have u tried it? Tammy Anderson says winsor and newton works so I've just purchased it. Any ideas?
This is in addition to the fact that I can't get deco art or behr as I'm in Europe so I'm having to make my own satin enamel from decoart paint, satin and enamel. This is tough.
Yes that would be tough...I have used The Amsterdam white in in experiment...it does work but you need more satin enamel added if you are going to add in Amsterdam white. Or just omit it all together. Here is the link to that video: ruclips.net/video/dnTSpkkvbGw/видео.html I hope you have success and if You have any other questions please let me know. ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Hi Jeri. So the DecoArt is in stead of the Behr. It is one or the other for me with my pours. Some people use both but DecoArt is super powerful and reactive so I normally don’t mix it with any other satin enamel. That being said…the video that you watched is an older video. This is an updated video with better mixing. If you want to use the DecoArt just substitute in 1/2 part for the Behr Satin Enamel that you see in my latest video. Here is the link…ruclips.net/video/QV6BtLChRi0/видео.html. Hope this helps! ☺️🙏🏻❤️
I understand that Golden is having some production issues so it might be difficult to find it. The addition of GAC 800 Is to prevent cracking and crazing to your pour...GAC 900 is a fabric paint polymer to use with heat to help with launderability. They are completely different so you wouldn’t want to use 900. GAC 800 is specifically used in pouring paintings. If you can’t find GAC 800 you can use Golden Color Pouring Medium. That is a suitable exchange you may just need to add a tad more water to your mixture. If that’s not available you can omit it from the recipe but you may have cracking due to the quick drying time of the satin enamels. Hope this helps! ☺️
Yes absolutely Kim! With US floetrol you have to strain it. I use a piece of nylon rubber banded to the top. It works the best! I’ve been using the same pair of nylons for the last 2 years. ☺️👍
Thank you for your explanation on mixing the Pearl cell technique. I used Masters Touch white paint, I got small pearl cells, what do you think is the reason I got this results. Was it because of the different white paint or was my consistency off?
You are very welcome Anna... And Yes it is because if the masters touch white paint vs. artist loft flow white paint. You can use the masters touch but the ratios will be different. I will attach a video I did explaining my experiment on how all white paints are not created equally! Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/dnTSpkkvbGw/видео.html Please keep me posted on your results! ❤️☺️
The two items on your pearl cell recipe that I can get in Australia. Are the Floetrol and the water. I have been trying for 6 months and if I could find them in America I can’t afford the postage. There was one Deco Art Satin enamel on Amazon. I thought $65.00 was a lot plus postage. The next week it was $150.00 and it sold. I have managed after experimenting for about 4 weeks to make cells from different products but the other paint looks terrible. I will win this battle, I won the bloom battle and then I did the course. Thank you. 🌸
Aww. I know...decoart is hard to come by even for us. Do you have access to white Satin House paint in Australia? It doesn’t even need to be Satin Enamel paint. If so, try that...I don’t know about the paint formulas in Australia but it works here in the US. If you look at a couple videos of mine back I show you a few different options. I get my house paint at the local home store. I have confidence you can win this battle! 😉 keep me posted on your results!
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry, I have found one brand and one can of house paint. We don’t have paint called satin anymore. We have to know the number that puts it in the satin range. It didn’t do anything the first 4 times I tried it so I threw a big blob of untinted house paint into it and made pearls. I am stubborn and I will let you know if I get it how I want it to look. ❤️
Your very welcome...the DecoArt is more powerful with smaller amounts. The Behr has the same effects but you just need but more to get the effects. I have a video that compares the difference and how I came to the 2 parts Behr if you want to see the difference. ☺️
Tara, I’m confused at one point you say to use 2 parts Behr satin enamel but then you say if using Decoart satin you use .50 part. Is this because Decoart satin enamel makes more cells? Thanks for sharing! 🌹
Yes Penny. DecoArt is much more reactive than the Behr. Different brands of Enamels require different ratios. I have another video that explains the difference and how I came to those ratios. You may want to check that out! Hope this helps! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Tara my queen. I shall be brief. Since I live in a small fishing village in Spain, I don't have access to many products. I wish very much to be able to create a cloud cell before I leave this earth. However, I have available a house paint, varnish, semi-gloss paint, and Ambassador Titanium white. Can I rig something? Amazon does not deliver here. ☺️❤️
Hello Nina from Spain! Do you have access to any type of pouring medium or acrylic medium? The reason I ask is that I think you could create cells with just house paint, your Ambassador titanium white paint and water but it would be good to have a medium included in the recipe to keep the pigments from breaking up when you add in a significant amount of water... if not, I would try a 1:1 ratio of house paint to titanium white paint and probably at least 1/2 part water or maybe up to 1 part water. so that would be a 1:1:1 ratio approximately. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help. I don’t know if this will work with what you have. I hope it does work though. 🙏🏻☺️❤️
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Muchas gracias. I'll try that again. I do have the European Floetrol if that matters any. I assume it's the right combination of products. Also, been working on consistency.
You could try the European floetrol it is just going to be much thicker than the American floetrol so you will probably need more water. I have never used the European Floetrol so I’m unsure of how it works. Aussie floetrol would work though...🤷🏻♀️☺️
Great teacher loved it.
I am brand new at this and almost 68 yes old
But deeply in love with this .. I am determined to get my own channel before I am 70. Thank you Jody Duncan
Thank you so much Jody! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I’m sure with that determination you will set out to reach your goals! That’s awesome! 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Thank you so much. I have been trying every mixture out there. The tip about comparing to the Golden color was the trick I needed. I mix a Golden color first then make the base. Works like a charm. Now I can concentrate on colors and composition. Thanks again.

Hah ha! Tara, So I had this video already saved in my list to watch later for when I mixed stuff up for this technique! 😊 Ugh I have EVERYTHING except for the satin enamels which is slowly getting here but not quick enough. Beyond psychd & just happen to have all thats needed except GAC 800 but DO have Aussie Floetrol so hoping that'll do!🤞
Hey Heather! I hope you have success. You can omit the GAC800 all together just substitute a little note Liquitex pouring medium. The GAC 800 is to help with cracking and crazing but I think u can get away with substituting the Liquitex. Keep me posted on your results! ☺️🙏🏻

Wow thank you the best explanation
But do you have ideas for Australians that can’t buy Artistloft and the house paint
Thank you 😁
Thank you so much! Yes you can use the DecoArt. Just use 1/2 part in the formula instead of the Behr 7300. ☺️❤️🙏🏻

Thank you for this mixing demo! Very helpful. QUESTION: are the base paint and color paints the exact same consistency? It looks like it. Thank you.
Yes Cathy they are pretty close to the same consistency. If your pour over paints are a tad thicker that’s ok though. Just so they are close and you stretch stretch stretch those pour over paints pretty quickly. Hope this helps! ❤️☺️🙏🏻

@@PiecesofTaraArtistry thank you so much for your reply. Beautiful work.
Tara this was great thank you! I learned so very much, first that I was using way to much paint! I didn’t realize that I could use that much pouring medium with Golden and Amsterdam paints!
Oh yes!! They are so pigmented you can get away with a lot of water and PM and still have great results! Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Thank you for your mixing video on pearl cells. I haven't been able to get Artists loft white in Australia can I use another brand? Great video.
“Thin” not “sit” LOL. Darn talk to text 😁
Definitely helpful to me and lots of others!!!!! Thank you for this great tutorial!!!!!!

Here is a refresher from right after Pourcon:

Here is the video with the modifications: ruclips.net/video/QV6BtLChRi0/видео.html
Also, stay tuned because Friday I will be releasing a video with a new pearl formula that’s super easy! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Hi Tara! Thanks for your reply! I am waiting for your new video on Friday so I can try out the new formula! Yay!
Thank you Tara, your the Best :o)

Appreciate you! Question... can I use just Liquitex gloss pouring medium instead of the Gac?
Thanks Tammy. You could give it a try. The GAC’s purpose is to keep the paint from cracking so you could try it...I’m thinking it should work. You may just need to add a little more water. ☺️
Thank you so much appreciate your help.
I just found this ...thanks so much
Your very welcome Paulette! 🙏🏻☺️

You are so welcome! ☺️🙏🏻
Tara thanks for sharing. Is the Behr 8300?
Hi Carolyn…this is an older video but I think it was the Behr 7050. The Oure white. I have changed to either the 7300 deep base OR the 7753 deep base depending on the paint colors I want to use.
THE most informative video for mixing! Thank you so much for sharing.
You are very welcome Savvas! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
With your pearl cell recipe can you put a color in? Or is the Deco art satin enamel the color and if it is can a different deco art color be used
Yes. You can make colored cells in a variety of ways. Here is the video on how I make my pearl cells color: ruclips.net/video/y8F7QVVqLL8/видео.html
You can also make colored pearl cells from the DecoArt satin enamel colors (you obviously would omit the artist loft white from the recipe).
The masters touch paint is so thick. How do I work with it?
With those let paints y you out just need to thin it down more with pouring medium and water.
Thank you I am learning so much from your videos and the way you teach thank you again
Might be a totally stupid question BUT...Can you or Do you mix and store for later use? Or mix each and every poor?
Never a stupid question Rose!! I definitely store batches of this. I make big batches every time. They store really well! 🙏🏻☺️❤️

@@PiecesofTaraArtistry aww, you did great, you look like a natural 🤗🤗🤗
Tara, I assume that the Behr Satin Enamel is in white? Could the Behr Satin Enamel Untinted be used? Thank you!
Can GAC 900 be used in your pearl cell recipe instead of GAC 800. Thanks in advance
Thanks ❤️
Thanks Parv! 🙏🏻❤️☺️
Thanks for sharing. Doesn't the GAC 800 do the binding ? If you don't have Liquitex could you just add more GAC 800?
Hi Francine... it’s funny you say that because I have been thinking the same thing! It can probably be omitted and still be fine. GAC 800 is a binder already so it should work. I think in my next pour I will try to omit it and see what happens. 👍☺️
...Omit the Liquitex that is. You probably don’t even need to add anymore GAC 800. Just omit the Liquitex.
Thank you 🙏💕
Your very welcome Caroline! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Perfect! Thanks! 🙂

Can I pick your brain and maybe get some advice as to where I need to go from here? I'm really looking for the satin enamel to eat the paint if that makes sense...... Your help would be so greatly appreciated thank you ever so kindly
Hi Carroll. Are you using Amsterdam Titanium White paint instead of Artist Loft White in the base formula?
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry no I used the artist loft flow acrylic. Should I have used the Amsterdam? I thought I was following it correctly but I'm old.
.
Carroll, the pleasure is all mine. Without seeing your consistencies and being next to you while you pour it’s tough to troubleshoot.
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Thank you very much
Thank Ulu sooooo much I now understand xxxx
Your very welcome Alrene! I’m so glad it was helpful! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry thanks!
Thank you so much!!!! I also loved your white paint comparisons. :) Happy Easter!
Does it have to be behr or decoarts satin enamel? If the satin enamel is already white, do i still add a white acrylic paint to it?
It does not have to be either of those brands. I only have experience with those and Pittsburg house paint in satin finish. Each brand of paint is a little different so you may need to play with the ratios a bit. I do have a video comparing different paints and ratios. I’ll link it here it might be helpful. That video also shows the result if you don’t add the artist loft white paint... ruclips.net/video/J6m3tgWQabs/видео.html
Hope this helps! ❤️🙏🏻☺️
Thank you , that was so very helpful
You are very welcome Sandra! 🙏🏻❤️
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry thank you! I appreciate it.😊
Thank you very much, great video!
Thank you and you are very welcome. I’m happy to share! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
🌹😘
Lol thanks
Oh no! I hope you figured it out!
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry thank you so much for taking the time to write me back I really appreciate it 🙏 I did use a lot of metallics so I think that maybe be the culprit I did a couple pours after that with regular paint and they turned out better 😊 I will definitely check out the one on one zoom info on your website thank you again so much ❤️
You are very welcome Kristen. I bet it’s the metallics. Give it a whirl without them and see if that makes a difference. ❤️
I understand that some colors react and some don’t. What colors have you been able to get this reaction with?
To be honest I haven’t had any problems with any of my colors reacting. I have heard the same but haven’t experienced any issues with colors not reacting. I have heard that metallics don’t react well but the Golden iridescent colors I have used have reacted just fine. I’m not sure about DecoArt metallics though. Sorry I couldn’t be more help there.
Hi, your art is so beautiful, I want to learn and make everyone! . Just a question. Not able to get DecoArt satin enamel, can we use something else?
Thank you so much. Yes you can use house paint in a satin finish or satin enamel house paint. ☺️🙏🏻
I am in awe of your work. I tried a practice piece and it didn’t develop very many cells, is the base coat consistency thicker or thinner than the puddle and Dutch pour consistency ?
Hi Rebecca! Thank you so much! The consistency is very similar but the base can be a tad thinner. It really does take practice. 👍🙏🏻☺️
Thanks for the helpful info, I’m going to give it another try. Keep on creating those beautiful paintings.
Lol…keep it and use it to bloom!!! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Here is the link to that video: ruclips.net/video/dnTSpkkvbGw/видео.html
I hope you have success and if You have any other questions please let me know. ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Thank you SO much. That was so helpful!
Your very welcome Paula!
Is the deco art satin enamel in place of the behr or in addition?
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry thank you Tara💖🙏
Can you use the 900 instead of the 800 because I'm having problems finding it or it's out of stock
I've been told that America Floetrol is grainy and/or has blobs in it. Do you strain yours?
Yes absolutely Kim! With US floetrol you have to strain it. I use a piece of nylon rubber banded to the top. It works the best! I’ve been using the same pair of nylons for the last 2 years. ☺️👍
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Thank you so much. Have a great day.
Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/dnTSpkkvbGw/видео.html
Please keep me posted on your results!
Yes definitely...I would love to know so I can share it with your fellow Aussies! ❤️☺️
Hi Tara, the recipe that you show on the screen says 1/2 part Satin Enamel rather than 2 parts Satin Enamel. It should be 2 parts, right?
Hi Diane...that’s 1/2 part DecoArt Satin Enamel OR 2 parts Behr Satin Enamel. It depends on the type of Satin Enamel you are using. ☺️
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Oh! I didn’t realize that they are so different! Thank you for explaining 😀
Your very welcome...the DecoArt is more powerful with smaller amounts. The Behr has the same effects but you just need but more to get the effects. I have a video that compares the difference and how I came to the 2 parts Behr if you want to see the difference. ☺️
Omg ty for not saying WARM HONEY!!!...;)
Lol! Pearl Cell recipe is definitely nothing like warm honey! More like runny milk…😂😂😂
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Thanks Tara! By the way I subscribed. 🥰🙏
Thanks you so much Penny. I appreciate your support so much! ❤️☺️☺️
