The moment was so emotional for Iris simply because she has always been "the strongest" and developed her identity and duty of protecting her kingdom and people around that.
Now imagine that you in the span of about 5 minutes just got so outclassed you can't even comprehend how bad you actually are, AND you were faced with the consequences of crossing the line with this being who outclasses you resulting in potentially causing the loss of your kingdom's security and lives because of the pride you've turned into arrogance.
Iris was subjected to all of these reality checks in like 5 minutes or so. And showing that her sister has achieved the growth that Iris herself needs leaves it open to them developing a closer bond and more formidable power in the future.
Also Cid did use his atomic but used it on the clouds thus removing the entire storm and he left because wearing all black in the day is stupid and not cool like he wants to be.
She was also the one that destroyed most of the city and she blames Cid then has the nerve to throw a tantrum at the end.
She's also been put on the "backburner" since she won the tournament. It's obviously frustrating for her to be in a position of power and not feel like she has any. Especially being degraded so easily now after talking to Alexia about how Shadow Garden HAD to have been using artifacts lol.
I kinda feel for her because she's so emotionally high strung so her with Beatrix at the end of 20 was great lol.
To me iris isn't that arogant. She States that she's avare she's lacking as princess, and is confident only in her Sword skills. Then she realize she's powerless. She can't protect her self not her home or people. That's really horrible feeling. She' typical shonen protag but without friendship power boost.

That scene where Alexia is training while Shadow's violet attack engulf the city is used to show us difference between the two sisters. Iris when seeing Shadow's power loses her sanity. While Alexia vowes to become strong, even if she dies that day, she will still follow that path.
Basically, mentally and psychologically the younger sister Alexia has surpassed her older sister Iris.
Alexia is walking cid's path when we see this. She vows to follow the same path even if she dies and gets reincarnated (like cid did). Not many people have that resolve in them like cid did and in s2 opening (ruclips.net/video/LQRbFCAHDUU/видео.html) when cid is walking we can see who are the people who are walking the same path as he is (they face the same direction) in the opening but they're stagnant and not moving (this can mean that cid is way ahead of them and they cannot keep up with him as said in the opening lyrics "nobody can catch up anymore")

You are right. Iris is strong and strong enough that she can sense how strong Cid is. But she is not strong enough to counter that aura. Cid is also not doing that on purpose, she is flinching and running and jumping around, so Cid is reacting to that and slighting changing his centre of gravity. Which she can sense and become even more paranoid.
The problem about Itis is she got blonded by her own justice and lose her true strength by that situation......till end up using some borrowed powers ..what a big disappointment....This is why Alexia are better than her

She Wants to protect her people from shadow- a terrorist- according to Public opinion. She picks up artifact coz she knows she stand no chance without it. If she would not stand up to shadow, who would? You have here Bog SSG goku vs beerus situation. Borowing power to match up strong oponent. And that still not enough.
Can we expect a Season 2 reaction? Especially since a movie after that S2 has already been announced.
