As I type this out I am watching the video of you shaping this bowl. In my opinion that is no need to apologize for your fur babies, for me it makes it all much more real and love seeing the littles. Thank you for taking the time to share your talent with us all.
WOW and you said you didn't have patience. Love that piece. Thanks Again for the joy you bring. You truly have a ministry. Blessings on you and yours Rev. Callender
If you cover the cut bowl blank with a clear coat of resin and let it cure before you add the rest of the resin, you will stop the air bubbles from the wood from coming out of the wood on the final pour. This works for all wood or organic pieces you are trying to use in your resin. Also get a used full sides oven to dry your Organic pieces before adding them to your resin casting. This way you can have more dry wood blanks and other organic pieces and have them at hand . It's the old school way of stabilizing wood. Love the channel and keep turning 😉
That looks really nice, Kim! I had a similar problem with air bubbles when I made an olive goblet last year. I ended up sealing the piece with dewaxed shellac (aerosol shellac) and was able to get good results with an epoxy coat. The only issue I had with that process was preventing the resin from heating up too quickly, which would have caused the shellac to dissolve and ripple.
That is an adorable pup, another beauty of a bowl. I still really love to watch those long thick curls come off the gouges while you are cutting. Stay safe, and see your next one soon. Blessings fred
Thank you for your interesting and informative video, I really appreciate it. I love the finished piece it's so beautiful with fantastic complimentary colours
Very nice! Good colors. Simple and classy shape. Good play-by-play. Enjoy the addition to your family also. Our dogs are definitely higher on the food chain than I am in this house! Lol!
Wow, that came out great - really nice bowl! It sounded like it required quite a lot of attention to get it there! I really like that you tell us which tool your using at each stage - great for folks like me who know so little about turning!
This is absolutely gorgeous, I know i keep saying the same thing but you keep knocking these projects outta the park and there is only so many ways you can say its gorgeous or fantastic, but this is GORGEOUS 👍👍👍
That turned out to be a beautiful bowl. Job well done. Love that puppy 🐶 such a little cutie. I used to go barefooted in my cabinet shop, made me giggle when I saw you in flip flops.
First off, beautiful doggy! I love your work and appreciate your faith. As a former sales person and current ordained pastor, I woul like to give a word of advice; work on reducing and eventually getting rid of the word "um." Many of us do it without noticing, but you seem like the type of person who can overcome. Keep up the awesome work and stay strong in your faith! Blessings.
Absolutely beautiful, I love watching your videos! My rotties also love to come in when I’m turning also, mostly to try to steal scraps or blanks or bring me a ball lol
What a little cutie!! The first time I brought my pup in to the shop, he heard my screw gun and ran into the house and under my chair. Project turned out great. Have a good 1.
The bowl is great, but I adore Missy, that little ball of fur is so cute. The older one is a beauty too. The only problem with the video is that you apologize too much, don't apologize for doing things your way, if someone doesn't like it they can turn the video off and go away. You don't have to apologize to anyone, you do fine work, and it's nice to watch.
Beautiful bowl! I love how you tell about your experiences, both good and bad. I hope to be able to use some of that knowledge when I finally get a lathe. Have a great weekend.
Just a observation, when drilling a hole to hollow out a bowl it is advised to hold on to the drill chuck. The morse taper is designed to hold secure when it is pushed back into itself. If the drill bit sticks the morse taper can come loose and cause a very heavy object whipping around and will cause physical harm to you and possibly others in the range. Take a look at woodturning at 54a where Kieth barrow has his drill chuck let lose and cut him pretty good. I learned this decades ago and fortunately I have not had that issue. Turning safe makes us all smile.
@@KimTippin your very, very welcome. The lamp you made was amazing. I would definitely love to own one of those!!!!!! I truly enjoy watching your channel. I look forward to your uploads.
Kim, Very very Beautiful bowl I really liked seeing this & enjoyed watching your video, thanks for sharing your knowledge, skills, & video God bless.!.!.!.
Hi Kim, big fan. I have a possible suggestion for why your tools aren't staying sharp as long as you would expect. You do a lot of turning and may already know this . . . but if you don't then this will help a lot (and keep you from destroying the edge of the new tool you are about to shape). Whenever you are sharpening a tool (even more so when re-shaping a tool) on a dry grinder (as opposed to a Tormek, which is nearly impossible to shape a tool on anyway), it gets really hot. Unless it is a sintered tool, it has been tempered at a specific temperature, then hardened through a series of temperature changes. If the metal gets over a certain temperature, it will temper again and get much softer. At that point, it will never hold an edge for long ever again. The only way to fix it (short of having a metal shop re-harden it) is to cut off enough of the end to get past the part that got too hot and re-shape it. A sintered tool will also get too hot and deform the edge, but it is pretty easy to re-grind it past that point. The way to avoid this is to either work in small time periods and take away metal slowly (even when sharpening for very long), or to have something to cool it down. If you don't get it too hot to begin with you can dip it in water, but if it gets really hot and you do this it will also soften the metal. So either dip it in water very frequently, or stop and let it air cool regularly.
Hello TipKim... it's beautiful piece, you're right about that. Plus, you took your time turning it - evidence against impatience ;-) And no cobalt blue this time... yippie! Your magic hands even coped with the piece wobbling on the lathe... About Missy: ain't she sweet!
Beautiful bowl, Kim. I think we all get a little "discombobulated" (as you said) these days from being cooped up so much. Our fur baby is 8 months old now and getting big. They bring so much joy into our lives. Stay safe. Bill
Love the colours - absolutely gorgeous. And your new puppy is absolutely adorable I must say even though I am more of a cat person than a dog person. Have a great weekend and stay safe.

Hey Kim, always a pleasure watching u...this is lovely! Please stay well and healthy...have they opened the beaches in Fl? They have here in Myrtle Beach for locals… sad world we live in right now. We wear mask and gloves when ever we go anywhere...take care. We love ur work!
Hi Missy 😍🐶 I think we are all a bit discombobulated this week lol. Sending you positive prayers and support. Never apologise for bettering your skills!! I think you are amazingly talented and I thank you for sharing your journey with us whether it be good, bad, beautiful or ugly Lol. Gorgeous bowl, id proudly have it in my home.
Thanks for posting. Lovely result. Just wondering if you've tried putting a former inside when you're casting? Would reduce the resin needs a lot, cos you end up casting a bowl blank, not a cylinder.
